“Needs a little work on customer relations”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 30, 2013

Hi, Just returned from a week at this hotel, we booked at the last minute for a week in the sun.
Room, best we have ever stayed in on an all inclusive deal as most are tiny, lovely balcony overlooking the pool.

Animation team great fun to watch, Barceló Beach dance, the guys worked really hard and were fun.
Yes, the sun shone lovely, we never found that you could not get a sunbed whatever time you went to the pool. Pool area very clean and well kept, although some people were very thoughtless to bring glasses of drink to the poolside, lots of kiddies running around, we were told no glass first day but as the week got busier nobody stopped them.

Drinks through the day were not a problem, at night the queue was pretty long and with only 2 bar staff on with orders to supply only 2 alcoholic drinks per person, if you were in a large company the queues got longer and longer taking 30 minutes to get served, there were a lot of complaints as the bar staff were serving people who just walked to the front of the queue, comments from a bar waiter that the '' English drink too fast '' did not go down too well!. They have upgraded alcoholic drinks to more premium brands on all inclusive.

Food was ok but very repetitive, yes, you could always find something but for a 4* I was expecting a better choice. Meal times resembled the school dinner hall, with only one restaurant open with 2 shifts to feed so many things got a little too noisy, plus only 45 minutes to eat your food then out!.

Day 2 I had Paella and found a thick piece of Perspex about 1.5cm, I told the waiter he brought the customer relations guy, he apologised, its bought in from another company, I did not want a fuss and was not going to mention it but thought if an elderly person or a child who may have swallowed it could have choked them, he took my room number but at the end of the week no mention of the matter, I do think the management should have at least contacted me to say they had spoke to the company who made the paella and assured it was being dealt with.

We had a nice time, met some lovely people but we would not return, its the first year Thomas Cook have been in the hotel and I think they should take on board peoples comments if they want to attract more English people, some are trivial but being classed as a 4* in Spain maybe different to 4* in Turkey.

Room Tip: ask for poolside room if you want a sunny balcony, noise level is good as doors are insulated.

I can't believe the negative reviews on here.. Sat by the pool with a drink listening to a bit of music and just relaxing..the rooms are spotless, there's food to suit everybody and the staff are very friendly. As for people saying it's very Spanish- you are in SPAIN!! What on earth do you expect?! Honestly! The only criticism i have is the embarassing English people who can't even be bothered to make the effort to use a few Spanish words.. Lovely hotel!

Hubby and I just returned from a week at Punta Umbria Beach Resort, we had a lovely time, some previous negative comments are fair, however if you are looking for a week in the sun that doesn't cost the earth this place is ideal, we met some lovely people of all nationalities and the staff were always friendly and helpful, there were some rude English people who treated the bar staff terribly, I would be rude in return if I was spoken to in the manner we witnessed. however if you make a little effort to smile and speak a little Spanish it is really appreciated and they couldn't do enough to help.

Food is ok, had better but fine for a week, wouldn't recommend the snack bar but after a lovely breakfast didn't really need to eat much else until dinner.

It rained on our last day, so we went to the spa, it was really nice and a great way to pass a couple of hours.

If you are looking for perfection pay 5 star prices, if you are happy with sun and a nice relax without spending too much it is worth the visit.

we have just returned from this hotel. it is very large. we arrived on the 12th of September, and were told we could eat in four themed restaurants plus one visit to an a' la carte during our stay. on the 15th a note was pushed under our door to say due to reduced numbers in the hotel they would be closing three of the themed restaurants.in actual fact they closed two. then on Monday they reduced it to one again. it was very hectic in both the bar and the restaurant and this spoiled it for us. the hotel overall was great and most of the food was delicious, but I would advise you to go a fortnight earlier so you don't encounter some of the bars and restaurants being closed.

Room Tip: ask for a room overlooking the pool as you get the sun all day

Just got back from a weeks stay at the beach resort and it was just what I needed. Hotel clean and of good standard. Staff very welcoming and helpful. Food everything you could wish for was there, plenty of salad, fresh fruit, hot dishes etc. the only downside was the beds are quite hard, but room large and clean.
Punta Umbria has a lovely sandy beach which stretches for miles great or those early morning walks before chilling by the pool.

Room Tip: Ask for a blanket or two if not one in your room you may need to sleep on one as bed quite hard.

We're a Couple in our late Forties,Just arrived Back from a week (19/9/13 -26/9/13) The Biggest Hotel I've ever stayed in, 1024 rooms in three blocks, Thomas Cook guests in the Beach block, The food is ok, its buffet style catering, for many people, so you must understand it's not to everyones taste. always plenty of choice from pasta to fish and meats and all sorts of salad, Plenty of dessert and fruit available.
The queues at the Bar in the evening are quite long, and can be a little off putting, If they separated the Soft drinks it would help, the last few nights they opened the pool bar which was far better and less crowded, The Staff speak very good English, some better than the Brits. Try a bit of courtesy and speak Spanish like saying "Gracias" it goes a long way.The area around the Hotel is very quiet and very Spanish( you are in Spain) try speaking a little Spanish it does help and they appreciate the effort. Punta Umbria Is a working Fishing Town across the estuary from Huelva, Try the Colombus routes Trip, See where Christopher Colombus lived and Set sail to the New world, and the trip into Seville is a brilliant Day Out, just need more time to see everything.
The People who Moan about this place, must live in Mansions with a full Butler service, they were boring and are professional moaners.
Would I go back, Yes we are pricing up for the family to come next year with our Grandson.

This was supposed to be our honeymoon. On arrival we got pushed around and treated like a group not individuals, suit cases shoved in the corner and told to go away for 2 hours until the rooms were ready and given no clue as to where to go. Upon arriving in the room there were dirty knickers in the wardrobe and splash marks of god knows what up the wall. The bed was massive but extremely hard giving me little sleep and a sore back. The bathroom however was lovely and clean and facilities good.
We were promised a sunny balcony with a pool view, we got the sun at 5pm and could see the very edge of the pool!

In the resort are 5 restaurants at which you were given a card to say which one to eat in which night, however, the day after we got there all but one closed down and we never got to experience any of them!! The one they did leave open was primarily cold and greasy food for lunch and tea however the breakfast was usually lovely. The a la carte restaurant was superb, beautiful food and very attentive waiter!!!
The snack bar was horrific upon opening the food was stone cold!!!

All the staff were mainly polite alp though the language barrier proved difficult at times with them making very little effort to speak English.

The hotel was sold to us boasting a 100m walk to the beach, this is actually from the barcelo mar resort over the road and from the beach hotel actually consists of a walk over a dual carriage way, through a wood and then over a wooden walkway. However the beach was beautiful!!!

The pool area was stunning with shower facilities, comfy sun loungers and beach style parasols very nice setting.

There is unfortunately no nightlife at all in the surrounding area. The hotel was supposed to put on nightly entertainment but again this closed down due to the end of the Spanish summer... What about your English guests???

The que for the bar was ridiculous and the cocktails were premixed and then shoved in a glass with no effort.

The excursion to Seville was very good and definatly recommended however all the other excursions were in available again due to the end of the Spanish summer. When sold the holiday I requested to have a good waterpark close by which there was but again was closed!!!!

Very disappointed in the lack of things open, especially in the hotel which we had paid for... If you want to get away to do nothing but lie by the pool and go to bed early its perfect, but if you want things to do and entertainment it's not great. There were a few mild activities in the day such as tai chi, aqua gym and a little poolside dancing which were better than nothing.

The Thomas cook rep refused to give us a complaints form where personally I think she had ran out as nearly every person we spoke to had used one!

Beautiful beach, pool and surrounding area but not much else to offer :(
