The Stadthotel Patrizier is a very nice hotel with an excellent blend between the old architecture of the palace and the modern equipment ofs the furnitures and bathrooms.
It's situated in the centre of Schmalkalden (5 minutes walking distance to Dom and City Hall) and has a private parking place in the courtyard.
We overnighted in the dependance, Gruenes Tor, just in front of Patrizier.
The room was very clean, cosy and extremely peaceful vith a nice view over the downtown and Castle.
The buffet breakfast is excellent and various.
The relationship between quality and price is correct .
We would overnght again when we'll visit the beautiful Schmalkalden and its sorroundings.

Nice small hotel with charming interior and cosy little rooms. The location in the centre of the city is just perfect. I wouldn't go to Schmalkalden just to stay at the HOTEL, but if i have to go there, the Patrizier is the best choice.

We were at the hotel for a long weekend and experienced it as a top stay. The breakfast buffet is outstanding, the staff very friendly and helpfull and the location is a 5 minutes walk from the ancient city centre, and a 10 minutes drive from the famous Rennsteig.
Rooms are large as is the bathroom. This place would absolutely add to your stay in Thuringer Wald.

We stayed three nights in this quiet hotel in the old town of Schmalkalden. Both our bedroom and bathroom were spacious and clean. It was quite cool at night but the central heating worked well. Furniture in the bedroom was of good quality with two easy chairs plus a writing table and hard-backed chair. Our bathroom had shower and bath plus two wash-hand basins. Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfasts was buffet style with a very large selection of cheeses, cold meats, fruit, breads, etc. A small terrace where we soaked up the sun one evening. Private parking at the back. Good value at €82 per night. A very strong recommendation from us!

Pleasant, traditional hotel in an old Fachwerk building ideally located for wandering around this well-preserved old town; located on a main street, but my rear-facing room was quiet - despite the fact that warm weather necessitated sleeping with the window wide open. Room itself was compact, but clean and comfortable, breakfast was fine, and the price was right. I did get the feeling, however, that this hotel might be struggling, for there were few other guests, the restaurant was no longer operating, and I never saw more than one staff member at a time - and when she left early in the evening, and I had questions about the wifi password and the beverages on offer, there was no one to answer them.
True, it was August, many old-town streets were torn up because of a water/sewer project, and the castle too was under renovation wraps, and so the town seemed pretty quiet - still worth a visit, however; and Stadthotel Patrizier still seems to be the best place to stay.

I have stayed at the Hotel Patrizier 4 or 5 times.

Positives: The rooms are comfortable and pleasantly decorated. Breakfast offers a reasonable selection of typically German items.
Staff are friendly, some with more English skills than others.
Location is excellent, easy walking distaince to the city centre of this charming town.
Excellent restaurant in the hotel, plus several equally as good restuarnats located in the same block.

Negatives: front desk only open until 10 pm, cable TV has no English language channels, parking is limited. Rooms have low ceilings (about 7 feet) and the bathrooms, although spacious, only offer a shower - no bathtubs.

Overall: Very good hotel offering good value for money.
