Owner description: Discover Blair Castle and go on a journey into the fascinating past of the Dukes and Earls of Atholl. Unique amongst Scottish castles, the story here leads you from Mary Queen of Scot's visit to the Civil War, and from the Jacobite cause to Queen Victoria's famous stay which led to the creation of Europe's only surviving private army, the Atholl Highlanders. Over 700 years of Scottish history are on display across 30 rooms. Highlights of the castle tour include the Baronial Entrance Hall, featuring weapons used at the Battle of Culloden; the classic Georgian styling of the Picture Staircase; the grandeur of the State Dining Room and Drawing Room; and the magnificent Ballroom, bedecked in hundreds of antlers. The Castle sits at the hub of a breathtaking historic landscape and the gardens and grounds feature a 9 acre walled garden, a peaceful wooded grove, a ruined kirk, a red deer park and a whimsical Gothic folly.

“Still a Great Stop”
Reviewed October 1, 2013

We visited the Castle about 12 years ago on our first trip to Scotland. Having a family name of Blair, it was impossible to pass it by. We were not disappointed with the Castle at all, only to find out that it actually had nothing to do with the Blair side of the family. On our return trip, this September, we toured all levels again and discovered several facts that we didn't know from the previous trip. It is always great to hear the piper playing in his kilt outside the Castle and we were lucky enough to catch him again this trip.

Thank you for your feedback. I'm glad that you enjoyed your second visit to the castle and that you learned new things on this tour. Every time I tour the castle, I discover new things and different guides know different stories so depending on who you talk to, you can discover all sorts of things. Perhaps you've seen some new additions since your last visit? The modern Banvie Hall at the north end of the castle may have been being built when you first came. We also have luxury woodland lodges in the grounds now.

“Amazing place!”
Reviewed September 29, 2013

Passed the castle innumerable times but never visited till last week. Great place, impressive, well maintained, very historic and lots to see with 30 rooms open to public. Good descriptives in all rooms. Beautiful grounds and very good visitor restaurant and facilities. Not the cheapest tourist attraction but well worth the money.

“Excellent . What more can I say.”
Reviewed September 25, 2013 via mobile

We arrived around lunch time to the sound of bagpipes.easy parking and friendly greeting. The cost was 9.80 each and after spending hours in the gardens and surrounding grounds ..looking at the wonderful views of trees changing colours of autumn . And woodland walks. A hiden st brides kirk. We then entered the castle ..what a wonderful sight. Would have paid much more just to view the castle inside.

Thank you very much for your kind review. Autumn is perhaps the nicest time to wander around the grounds and enjoy the colours in the trees. The main driveway has had a flood of orange and red leaves fall this week and it looks excellent driving up to the castle.

“Blair Castle”
Reviewed September 25, 2013

As we were staying in the Village of Blair Atholl, then the visit to the castle was a must. Very charming place in beautiful scenery. The rooms, of which there were 30 to view, were very interesting and well worth looking at. The grounds are very extensive but well worth visiting.
