Uji city has pedestrian-friendly paths on both sides of the river, with benches, restrooms, useful maps & directional signs . Across the river from the famous Byodoin Temple is Asahiyaki Pottery near Uji and Ujikama shrines, an easy walk. This gallery exhibits museum quality ceramics from past generations and has current pieces for sale. There's an English website & map , and the famous Furukuen tea shop and processing facility is right behind the gallery. Worth a visit if you're in Uji. This side of the river is less commercial.

It was nice to stroll along and to watch the fishermen but there's nothing special about it. However, you will pass it it you visit all the important temples/shrines.

Don't limit your stroll just at the Uji Bridge and the Genji monument. Spent more time and venture further down Uji River along the riverbanks, past Byodoin Omotesando and Byodoin Temple. You will be greeted with the real tranquility of Uji River! Beautiful riverboats docking along the riverbanks with antique teahouses lining the pedestrian street adjacent to Uji River. It's definitely worth a walk! The whole scenery of Uji river, the riverboats, antique teahouses, with mountains in the backdrop is so peaceful, it blew me away! Totally mesmerizing! I fell in love with Uji here.

Been here almost every year and never get tired with the view. Calm,Fresh,Clean and Beautiful surrounding. Too crowded during cherry blossoms season but worth a visit. Take a chance to understand the origins of Tales Of The Genji as well.
