This place is peaceful and quiet as it is not crowded. 3 mins walk from train station, you will see the nicely build and deco bridge. Sakura trees are on both side of the river, which present a very nice scene. Along the river, there are many restaurant offer uji green tea drinks and food. You may enjoy tea ceremony while enjoying the nice scene of uji river.

Just stroll around the river, watch families picnic under the sakura tree or browse along the shops by the river. There's a cage at the park where they kept these birds - traditionally they were used by fisherman and a special custom here now only as display or for certain season to show tourist. Also go nearby eateries to enjoy the green tea!

Caught the train from Kyoto to Uji to pick up my tea supply. During the walk from Uji Station to the tea houses, I came across a small store selling sashimi and croquettes. Pick up my lunch and walked down to the river bank, took off my shoes, and let the cool, refreshing waters of the Uji River soothe my weary feet. A really nice place to relax. The Uji River's source is Lake Biwa, Japan's largest inland freshwater lake.

Uji river area with parks is relaxing indeed with few tea houses. Century old pottery house is located beside the river ad can stay at the Uji Hanayashiki Ukifune ryokan hotel which has very good view from high floor, onsen area an traditional Japanese breakfast.
Walking distance to the Unesco designated Byodoin Temple, centuries old Buddhist temple currently under renovation until Dec.

It is set in a tiny city between Kyoto and Nara. The river is crossed by one of the most unique and oldest bridges in Japan. There are many places to sit on the banks and rest or have a picnic.
