We had a special night at this hotel. The service is superb-we were greeted by the gracious hotel manager(?) who arranged for our bags to be brought up to our room while we were out exploring the town. The town itself is spectacular and you feel as if you are walking back in time as you explore the narrow twisting streets. It is well worth staying overnight as later in the day the number of tourists explode, but that all dies down dramatically at night. We had a very romantic walk through the town after dinner and ran into maybe one other person.

The dinner we had at the hotel that night was one of the very best during our three weeks in France. Once again great service with lots of laughs and good-humored giggles from the wait staff (whom we heard singing in the kitchen later!) as we tried to order in French. I had one of the best steaks I've ever had and fabulous local wine. The next morning, the hotel served a delicious breakfast with everything from fresh-baked croissant and pain au chocolat to crepes, yoghurt and cheese! There is no way you could find a hotel of this quality in the States for the price we paid!

We spent four days in St Guilhem hiking through the surrounding hills and gorges, returning to the comfort of our room and a fabulous meal each evening.

The hotel is simply but carefully furnished, with clean and spacious rooms with ensuite washrooms. We chose 'demi pension' and were delighted with the quality of the meals. The dinners were both imaginative and delicious, and very good value. There is an extensive local wine list, reasonably priced.

This is a family run hotel, and service was friendly and considerate. The owners' children, and 'Ginger', the 'chien sympa' helped make the hotel seem like a large home.

Try the hike up the Gorge D'Infernet, or walking to Montpeyroux and enjoying lunch at the bistro on the square before catching the bus back to St Guilhem.

Highly recommended.

One should take a toy poodle here rather than a big Llanfair as w did. The hotel is small and dainty furnished with care and attention and French frills. You may like it. Service is efficient and friendly. Located art the bottom of the village it and a small ta en in the village have a monopoly on the accommodations and price themselves accordingly. Why stay in the village add all. It is a daytime place to visit. No attractions at night so one is left to eat at the hotel. Doyle beds are often two single beds pushed together.

We absolutely loved this hotel and the restaurant. The rooms were beautiful, service great and food fantastic. Saint Guilhem-le-Desert is a wonderful place and this is the hotel to stay in. We got to eat outside every evening, overlooking the gorge, and enjoyed some excellent food and local wines.

We wanted to stay in St Guilhaume overnight and explore it's ancient streets when all the daytrippers had left (this is a magical experience) and we chose this hotel on the basis of the reviews. It is a hotel of great charm; friendly (although only French speaking) but also rustically stylish and contemporary.

We ate at the hotel in the evening and thought that the fixed price menu was fabulous value for money. Beautiful tastes and textures creating a very satisfying meal. The cuisine was big on taste and small on portion size, so you wouldn't want to eat here if you needed a big meal. All in all, staying here was one of the highlights of our trip around Southern France.

This is a small privately owned hotel full of atmosphere. The rooms are all different with lots of space and character. The staff is friendly and extremely helpful. The town itself and the surrounding area is absolutely breathtaking,

A locally-lauded venue, but unpredictable. Sometimes nice, sometimes not. Have never stayed in the hotel but have eaten three times in the restaurant, the first two times outdoors and lovely, the third indoors (because of wind - the narrow canyon can get a bit draughty so bring a wrap).
The menus are short and pricey. Pricey enough that you dress up to go there, but the staff don't; our 2 waitresses slapped around in noisy beach flip-flops, sporting a lot of tattoos and facial hardware which looked neither elegant nor professional. The family baby and dog made an appearance - charming if you enjoy babies and dogs with dinner. A lot of flies buzzed around too (well, it was July).
We all started with scallops - fresh and well seared, but only two each, reliant on a strange ricotta base that seemed at odds with scallops and didn't taste at all of the promised coriander. Next up were trout and fillet of beef: both very well cooked to order, but I nearly went into orbit after inadvertently tasting the violent mustard served with the beef. The limited menu included an excellent cheese plate + dessert (with unwanted cream, why can't restaurants either ask or serve cream on the side?)
With coffee as violent as the mustard, plus a half bottle of white wine, a bottle of red and a bottle of mineral water, the bill for 3 came to just a few cent under 140 euro. It was a pleasant enough meal, but not memorable. The choices are limited (our only other option on the 29-euro menu was calf's head) and the décor's a bit blah, too. Overall, overrated.
