Lots of information to help you attract birds and insects to your own garden. The RSPB staff were really helpful.

Really interesting garden showing how gardens can be planted to attract all kinds of wildlife. Excellent free booklet given on how to make your own garden wildlife friendly.

Not being a fan of manicured, contrived, fenced off areas where nature once did its own thing in a place of natural beauty, I was really disappointed when I went to Flatford and saw this garden had appeared. However, it has been done well and is a very calming pleasant place to visit. It certainly attracts a lot of people, birds, insects and animals that may not otherwise be there.

As someone who prefers to walk quietly through minimally managed countryside and woodlands, with no fences or too much man made stuff around, I wouldn't ordinarily be attracted to a garden like this. But for what it is and for what it achieves for the birds and animals it attracts, it is a very beautiful place.

It also gives access to the countryside to people like my parents who are too frail to go trekking through the woods and they enjoyed just sitting in the sun taking it all in. Access was easy because the visitor centre next to the garden lent us a wheelchair for my dad and there was no problem using it around the garden.

I would imagine that this is a place you can enjoy no matter what the season is.

This garden, and Flatford as a whole with it's rich history is worth a visit with children and elderly alike - there is something for everyone here. As this is right in the heart of Constable country, it is a popular haunt for poets, artists, photographers and walkers and the field study centre nearby offers courses for all.

Thank you for such a considered and thoughtful review of the Flatford Wildlife Garden.

As you can imagine, before the project got underway, much time and effort was spent finding the balance of showcasing what people can do in their back garden to help our threatened wildlife, whilst ensuring that it was done in keeping with the rest of Flatford.

Best wishes,

Mark.

What a great place. Incredibly friendly staff, great treasure hunt activity for the kids, both our 7 year old and our 2 year old have enjoyed it. We are now considering giving bird watching a serious go, thanks to the RSPB volunteers there. Hugely recommended!

Hello,

I am pleased to hear that your family had an enjoyable time at Flatford. That is what we set out to achieve. I am sure that there will be another RSPB reserve somewhere not to far from where you live that you can explore and have a similarly wild time.

Best wishes,

Mark

We spent over an hour completing a lovely kid's activity in the RSPB garden, helped along by the extremely friendly volunteers. The garden is just lovely and our kids had a wonderful time as did we! Thank you for a lovely experience!
