“Awesome sushi”

Nishi has a creative menu with lots of choice. Make sure to ask for a table upstairs when you book. Upstairs has a great atmosphere but downstairs is a bit lacking. The food is terrific and the staff are great.

“Oh dear what has happened here ?”
Reviewed January 2, 2013 via mobile

Having been here many times in the recent past, tonight's meal was a disaster.

1. We waited 65 mins before our starters arrived (large group to deal with)

2. Our bar service was slow in that we waited 35 mins for our drinks (large group to deal with)

3. Two mins before our main course food was due to be served we were told that they had run out of seaweed and we were offered soya wrap in its place. PLEASE it's a Japanese sushi restaurant for goodness sake ... Guess why .... They had a large group that ate it !

4. The sashimi was the worst we have ever eaten anywhere. It was clearly frozen fish that had been defrosted a couple of hours earlier as they had run out of fresh fish. By now you can guess why, something to do with a large group ....!

Our waitress told us that as from 1st jan the restaurant was under new ownership again (3rd time in 2 years ?).

Our only hope is that the new management sorts their obvious issues out before its too late.

Our waitress did her very best but was clearly frustrated about our situation.

The duty managers response was a paltry 'sorry' and keep her distance from us after her initial approach to us.

As for us, this isn't the first time we have had issues there but it's certainly the last time we will go back unless we know the original owner and chef, Paul is back in charge.

“My food was stolen!”
Reviewed January 1, 2013 via mobile

New Years Eve we thought Nishi's would be a buzzing venue to celebrate the evening. In fact it was quite quiet and lacking in atmosphere. However, by far the most bizarre incident occurred when we were kept waiting an unusually long time for our main courses. The waitress eventually plucked up the courage to tell us that "your food has gone missing and so has the chef!". After another 10 minutes the waitress served three out of four main courses and told me that "your food has been stolen and the chef, who has now returned, is preparing you another one!"
Great entertainment value bordering on the comical, however the food when it did arrive was very good. Having to also serve our own wine all evening and then be given a bill where the service was automatically added, was not on.
In summary, nice food, slightly odd atmosphere and hilarious service.

“Excellent sushi”

Loved this place, the sashimi was divine and the sushi perfectly made, being perfectly light.

The waitress was a bit moody but still loved it.
