“A most wonderful holiday in a wonderful place”

We have just returned from a two week stay which was a return visit from last year having falling in love with the place.

What makes it's special ? For us the answer is simple, the welcoming staff and management !

Everything is done to try and ensure that you enjoy your stay and if unfortunately you experience a problem the staff will do their uppermost to put things right.
As far as we are concerned the attentiveness to the guest is second to none and you always feel that it is being done through a genuine desire to do it rather than just being part of the job !

During our stay the hotel had issues to contended with surrounding the closure of the beach (due to the advertised Holetown beach regeneration works) but contingency plans were in place with transportation to a nearby beach where a team of staff provided all the comforts of sunbeds, umbrellas, food, drinks and water sports.

The team at Mangobay is led by Director of Operations Anthony Johnson, a very visible and approachable presence who radiates a passion for providing guests with the very best experience and has a great team behind him.

Yes I can understand some of the comments on here with regards to the need for refurbishment in certain areas and if when choosing a holiday this is a major driver then disappointment may pursue, but, Mangobay is about people, the new friends you make with in the intimate surroundings of the pool, bar and restaurant and the wonderful Barbadian personality of the guys and girls who look after you.

Mangobay is in our opinion an ideal place to relax, recharge and be looked after and yes we shall return next year and we will count the days to our return.

Thank you Mangobay for another unforgettable holiday, keep doing what you are doing because you get far more right than you get wrong!

Room Tip: We have stayed in a De-luxe room on our two visits and found them very comfortable

My Husband and I have just returned from Barbados , having spent twelve nights there for our Wedding Anniversary.
The first six nights we stayed at Oceans Two , Dover Beach, on the South side of the Island, this is an amazing Hotel , and deserves to be number one in the ratings as it is exceptional.
The second week we moved round to the West side of the Island, where we spent the rest of our holiday at Mango Bay, in Holetown.
What a disappointment, as someone else has mentioned in their review , we were confronted with many forms to complete, concerning accidents or incidents which may arise on the complex, you are requested to sign an agreement not to make a claim if one should arise .
After, we were shown around the complex, which is very pretty, but does need updating, the tiles and lighting were hanging off on the the pool area.
At 14.30 we were taken to our room , which we found to be very dark, even though it did have a patio leading onto the balcony, the only lighting we had, were four large lamps in the main bedroom, however come evening time, it did give the room a romantic feel.
On our first evening having had a nice three course meal, we returned to our room to find a bottle of Champagne and flower petals in the shape of a heart laid out on our bed, it was lovely.
Then it was all down hill from there;
Not enough sun loungers , therefore , we never had one for the whole of our stay
We shared our breakfast and lunch with the local wildlife , a smaller version of the British Black Bird , braisingly tried to take food from our plates , whilst excreting on the table.
Limited meal times , one day we had lunch at 12.30 and dinner 20.45
Beach was closed for 4 days
Sewage from the on going works on the Island was released into the sea, leaving dreadful smells on the complex
The beautiful sea view was spoiled by the noisy JCB s and dumper trucks which were directly in front of the restaurant
Although some of these issues had nothing to do with the hotel, I would strongly advise that you consider them seriously ,before booking , as even though the hotel laid on mini bus trips to a nearby beach, it had a serious impact on our stay .
On a plus note the staff were polite and efficient, the trips are a must, and evening entertainment enjoyable, shame we did n't see or hear much of the steele drums on the complex.

Have just seen the latest reviews and was sad to see that recent visitors didn't enjoy their time at mango bay as much as we did! It is the quiet season so agree that there wasn't as much enthusiasm with entertainment as we expected and the lighting on the terrace wasn't great but other than this our stay was seamless and outstanding!

Our room was on the ocean front and was clean, large and in great condition with amazing sunset views from the balcony! Iron, hair dryer, mini bar, and safe all handy!

The restaurant was great with good selection and amazing tasting food! The bar was equally great with common brand alcohol on request such as Smirnoff and Gordon's, and the lesser known brands put in cocktails tasted amazing, they even take requests!

The beach was sufficient for sunbathing and the sea at the resort was amazing with loads of fish for snorkelling as well as free boat trips and pedaloes included! If you're not happy to listen to the beach work they offer trips to lovely empty beaches nearby with drinks and food taken with!

Check in and check out was easy and simple and did take some time... But you're in barbados, it's the local way and I loved the calm and relaxed staff, the welcome punch was good too!

Now for the staff... Faultless service with a constant smile! Nothing was too much or an inconvenience... 5 mins early or late for lunch or dinner and the response was "there's no such thing here... You're on barbados time!". You're ill and your husband wants dinner in the room... "No problem, we'll send it up".

Fell in love with barbados and mango bay resort alike... Thanks you to all the staff who made it perfect!!

Myself and my family stayed at the Mango Bay for a week, we were greeted by rum punch and a lot of paper work to sign. Our room was just ok, had a decent sized balcony, the bathroom is a bit dated and the bedding had a funny smell. The TV was small with only a few channels, the wifi is very slow,
The breakfast is what we expected, cereal, sausage, bacon, egg etc, fruit. At breakfast you have to book your lunch and dinner, if you are not quick enough you will have to eat dinner at 1845 or 2100. I actually heard one couple being turned away because they had not booked early enough. Annoyingly when you showed up for dinner the restaurant was empty. The lunch & dinner food is nice, good choices however I think they have tried too hard adding things like beef, gravy & Yorkshire pudding to the menu. The drinks are good, lots of choice.

The dress code was too strict, no jeans, no trainers, polo shirts for men allowed. The staff were fantastic,esp Nick & Rochelle!

There are not enough beds for the amount of people staying, people were putting their towels on the beds at 7am. The beach is a joke, I am surprised that no one has commented before, it's so small that you have to keep moving your things further away from the sea so they don't get swept away, If the hotel was at full capacity I am not sure where people would go. The government are doing work to the beach, I presume they are making it bigger. The diggers were not really an issue.

At the back of the hotel there is an overflow which looks and smells like a dirty swamp. The worst thing I experienced on this holiday was watching this water going into the sea, floating rubbish! I do not have a picture but people were taking pictures so watch this space.

The hotel put on a mini bus three a week to go to another beach Brandon's Beach, it is a nice beach and I preferred this to the Mango Bay beach.

I stayed at the Casurina (now couples) last year near the gap and this was much better, we defiantly overpaid for the area, I may consider staying again once the beach has improved and if the price was right.

Holetown is very lively, great nightlife at the weekend if you fancied it. We ate at a restaurant called the Mews which is just outside the hotel. Highly recommend!

Mango Bay Hotel

Welcome Reception on arrival (Rum Punch & Ice Cold Flannels)

This Hotel is in need of a complete refurbishment nowhere near a 5 Star.

Rooms very basic would have expected a small fridge/mini Bar given that it was supposed to be all-inclusive.

There is a gift shop however it was closed whilst we were there

The Bar served mainly non premium drinks - The complex lacked atmosphere we would have welcomed audible music and around the bar area.

Lots of lounges however not very clean and not always put away in the evening.
Only one Restaurant for the complex food was hit and miss, although the staff tried their best to cater for your needs eg if you requested a particular dish it was provided.

Entertainment was boring and repetitive at times and we found it difficult to see them clearly as the lighting was poor as was the seating arrangements.

As there were ongoing beach works were taken to another beach by the Hotel this included drinks and food we had to ask Claston (barman) for drinks as he seemed to concentrate on a larger group that were staying the hotel

We went on a few trips arranged by the Hotel, one was to Ostins this was owned by Claston the cousin maybe this was why he was keen to take people here. Staff – The staff in general were very nice and friendly however, some were very helpful.

The catamaran was too small for the amount of people that were on board. And the price paid was too expensive,

On the whole our Holiday was nice and would consider coming back to Barbados again but would probably stay at another hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms near the local bars are too noisey

We were placed on the old wing of the hotel on our first night stay. The rooms were terrible and we had to climb three flights of stairs. Additionally we were kept up all night by music form a nearby bar, after complaining on the second day we moved to the other side of the hotel which was a little better except for strong stench from the nearby mangrove. During our stay there was a lot of rain and the corridors of the hotel became wet at most times and were quite slippery. The food was noting superb and lack variety. I must commend the efforts of the staff as they were very helpful and pleasant. The beach is still under repairs and is not very enticing. For the price this all inclusive is not worth it.

Upon arrival at Mango Bay, we were greeted with drinks and cold cloths. Our luggage was taken immediately and we were told it would be waiting for us in the room. We sat across this desk from Erica (amazing lady at the font desk, as was Keisha) and she promptly checked us in. I asked her why it was so quiet and she explained that there were only 69 rooms. When my partner and I looked around we began to second-guess our choice (strongly). Erica politely suggested that perhaps we weren't accustomed to the smaller, more intimate accommodations and to give it the benefit of the doubt for one day. I went to my room and immediately went back on trip advisor to re-read the reviews (I thought maybe I looked at the wrong resort). But it turned out the reviews were fantastic so we decided to keep an open mind and see what would be in store. Well I'm glad we did! The experience improved as every hour passed.

The service is simply outstanding and the manager, Anthony Johnston, is always there to make sure everyone is completely happy. Regardless, his team are quite happy and willing to cater to your every whim. 10/10

The food is outstanding. The breakfast buffet includes every breakfast item you can think of and there is always a cook there to make you whatever you want (great omelettes) if it isn't already out. Lunch is a casual sit down meal, but the choices and quality is 100%. Dinner is a more casual/elegant sit-down meal and again the choices and quality is 100%. The is also an afternoon tea and lunch available. Now.... If for some reason you can't find something on the menu to please you, or if you want a twist, a larger or smaller portion, seconds, thirds or whatever.... It is your for the asking. All in all the food and deserts are some of the best I have ever tasted 10/10.

The rooms are spacious, spotless, great AC, lots of hot and cold water, comfy beds and in-room safe. Beach towels are automatically taken from your room in the eve and replaced with clean ones for the next day. Also, you receive turn-down service each evening with chocolates on your pillow. There is a flat screen tv with remote, patio or deck and an elevator if you r on the higher
floors. 10/10

The amenities are more than adequate. The pool is large and rarely would there be more than 10 people in at none time. There are way more than enough loungers, in and out of shade and they come with he thick, comfy cushions. The bar and bartenders are awesome (say hi to Peter). The beach is nice also, but there was some government initiated beach improvements going on so there were a few Tractors doing their thing. We spent most of our time on the beach and did not consider it a big deal at all. Although the hotel did offer transportation, lunch and bar services at a beach down the road if one chose (all free).

We loved the catamaran cruise with the snorkelling and well as the glass bottom boat and snorkelling (all free). We also rented the jet seadoos twice which was a blast and very reasonable (negotiate your rates). We also went zip lining and had a great time and a few thrills. Erica or Keisha at the front desk will help you with these things; they are very knowledgeable. The entertainment varied in the evenings, but was all good. Last night there was a crew if us dancing the night away on the open patio next to the bar to a fantastic musical duo. 10/10

I could probably give u 10 examples of how the staff went out if their way to do the little things that make a huge difference, but all in all this resort is about the overall "experience". The sum being greater than all of its parts is the u explainable, intangible dynamic that cannot be explained in words. It is what will bring you back again. It is the friends, the staff, the intimacy, the dancing, the everything!!!

Unfortunately this is our last night. We will be leaving the latter part of tomorrow morning. On the positive side I have already met with Anthony twice in his office about the possibility of returning in January for another week and it looks like we may have a deal!! Thanks Anthony
