We stayed at the Mango Bay in June for 2 weeks with our two children age 9 & 7. Celebrating 10 years where we got married on such a beautiful island, chose the Mango Bay next door to have our wedding vows renewed.

Check in - On arrival, check in was easily carried out within 10-15 minutes by completing and signing a few forms over a welcome rum punch. The children enjoyed their fruit punch too!!!

Hotel Accommodation –The hotel complex itself is compact with rooms varying from standard, superior, deluxe & ocean view. Everything was close by without having to venture too far. We booked a deluxe room which was located on the top (4th) floor. There are 10 deluxe rooms at the hotel in the main block which has a lift. 7 are on the 4th floor with 3 on each other floor at the east end of the main block adjacent to the pool. The room was clean, comfortable with a partial view of the Caribbean Sea. The maids were in attendance to clean each day, with a turndown service in the evening where beach towels were changed with an added bonus of a chocolate on your pillow. Tip: Ask reception to spray your room of mosquito repellent and this can be done during the turndown service.

Location - The hotel is ideally situated next to St. James beach on the west coast of the island. This area is a playground for the rich and famous, where the boutiques and duty free shops in Holetown are a short stroll away. Take a wander through the Chattel village or visit the local mall. Take a morning stroll along the beach or sit and enjoy the beautiful west coast sunset.

Restaurant - There is one restaurant at the Mango Bay which overlooks the warm waters and gentle waves of the Caribbean Sea. The view whilst having, breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea was amazing....A beautiful sight whilst enjoying our meals.
You can view the daily lunch and dinner menus which are posted by the restaurant check in desk from breakfast time.
Remember to book your required meal times for lunch and evening dinner as you arrive for breakfast each morning. This allows the staff at Mango Bay to give you their full attention whilst preparing and serving your food. The restaurant staff cannot be praised enough for the hard work and attention to detail whilst taking orders and serving meals. Our children miss choosing their meals every day from the menu along with asking for their surprise non alcoholic cocktails.
The restaurant served some excellent meals with a choice of 4 starters, 4 main and 4 desserts during a’la carte lunch & dinner service. Buffet lunch and evening dinner twice a week was equally as good.
However, if you have any special diet/food requirements, please speak to the staff who will ask the chef to prepare an alternative.
There is also a choice of 8 childrens meals available each day for children who may not enjoy the main menu.
Breakfast is self service with a selection of 4 cereals, 7 fresh fruit, ham, cheese, yoghurt, waffles, toast, croissants and your full English which consisted of bacon, sausage, beans, scrambled egg. Have your eggs poached, boiled or fried by the chef. Additional items which varied daily included tomatoes, mushrooms, corned beef and onion. Drinks were a choice of 2 x fruit juice with tea and coffee.
Packed Lunch – If you are going travelling for the day, ask the hotel to prepare a packed lunch. Each meal is individually packed (sandwich, crumble cake, fruit) along with a drink which is placed in a cool bag.
Tip: Try and loose a few pounds before you go as the food is plentiful and delicious.

Entertainment – Entertainment is available 7 nights a week from 8.30-11.00pm. The Virgo Band (3 girls) were excellent who play weekly. We were really excited to see Tony from Black Coral, who we enjoyed listening to 10 years ago. Our favourite songs were ‘I wanna be a puppy’ and ‘I say B, I say B.A.R.B’. Don’t forget to ask him about the Bamboo. Occasionally additional entertainment is on offer during the day. Details will be printed in your weekly newsletter which is delivered to your room. If you are lucky enough, the chef may sing a song for you too!!!

Water sports - We cannot thank Tyrone enough, a credit to the Mango Bay who taught our 7 year old daughter to water-ski. The hobby cat sailing, Kayaks, pedaloes and canoes were a bonus too. Just call into the water sports office next to the beach and book in as you need them. Try snorkelling and collect the equipment needed from the water sports office.
In addition to this, the free catamaran trip on ‘Stilhetto’ was an unbelievable 2 ½ hour trip where my husband and the children all swam with the turtles. The glass bottom boat ride was an extra free trip on offer and worth booking too.

Drinks – The bar is open from 10am until midnight. From lemonade to a choice of around 12 cocktails along with the local Banks beer, you will be spoilt for choice. The Mount Gay Rum is made on the island. Remember to ask for this at the bar.

Children – If you require a hotel with kids club or space for the children to run around, this may not be your ideal choice. However, the hotel will welcome children all year round. The staff will go out of their way to interact with the children. Our children fell in love with the Mango Bay and everything it had to offer. Thank you for giving us the memories of some quality family time together.

Sunbeds – There can be an issue with sunbeds, especially when the hotel is full. The hotel does point this out to guests through their weekly newsletter but that appears to be as far as it goes. We went down to the pool one afternoon and from the 50+ sunbeds around the pool, only 3 were in use, where the rest all had towels on them.

Problems – Yes, there were a few other issues. Some were out of the hotels control such as a burst water pipe which affected no water supply to parts of the hotel. A very large party was present during our stay which caused disruption to our holiday, where several repeat guests staying at the hotel were also complaining. This I can say was dealt with diplomatically by the hotel. At the end of the day, we all have different ideas of what we want from a holiday. Unfortunately some guests have little thought or care about other guests around them.
There were a couple of extra issues raised. However, by talking to the staff and management ensured our issues were looked at and dealt with appropriately. We would like to personally thank the Mango Bay for going that extra mile to ensure our holiday was not disrupted too much, where they provided us with the family memories we were expecting from a Barbados resort.

Activities away from the hotel:
Ride Barbados -
For around a 2 hour ride it cost 180bbd/£60.00 each. Riding through the forest, down the hills and on the beach was a truly wonderful experience which is highly recommended. Ride Barbados will collect you from your hotel. However, if you have car hire and book direct, ride timings can be more flexible and you may find it will just be yourselves and the guide riding.
Hair Braiding
A lady called Linda braided our daughter’s hair. It was pain free and we were told afterwards by many of the locals that Linda is one of the best on the island. Tip: We washed our daughter’s hair with plenty of conditioner on the morning it was due to be done. The cost was 80bbd/£24.00. Call her direct on 246-4397765 and she will come down to your hotel at a mutually agreed day/time. It is still braided 6 weeks later although not looking as good.
Atlantis Submarine – For 1ad/2ch paid 195.5USD/£125.00. This is expensive but a once in a lifetime opportunity. The children loved it!!
Barbados Wildlife Reserve – For 2ad/2ch paid 70.50bbd/£23.00. The children enjoyed this trip, where we fed the wild monkeys that visit the reserve every afternoon around 2pm for a feed.
Flower Cave - For 2ad/2ch paid around 60bbd/£20.00. Expensive for what you see. Tour duration 15-20 minutes.
Harrisons Cave - Family 2ad/2ch paid 180bbd/£56.00. Well worth the visit. The children really enjoyed this experience. Tour duration around 2 hours.
The Concorde Experience – This was expensive for the four of us but again it was a once in a lifetime opportunity.
Car Hire – We chose to hire our car which made seeing the sights more affordable than booking our trips through the tour operators. The car hire nearly paid for itself and we had spells to travel around such a beautiful island.

Check out – It was a sad day leaving the Mango Bay Hotel. We are already keeping an eye on rates so that we can return. We very much hope to stay at the Mango Bay Hotel and your beautiful island again soon. Xxxx

20th May 2012

My husband and I spent 1 week here on our honeymoon before flying to St.Lucia for a further 10 nights. The journey from the airport to the hotel wasn't too bad and when we checked in the reception staff were lovely. We had rum punch and were shown to our room (Deluxe I think on the 1st floor overlooking the pool). It had a bigger balcony and bathroom than most.

We loved the food and it was nice that it was booked in for a specific time as it felt more like a 'proper' restaurant than an all inclusive free for all. At time, I asked for alternatives and they were always happy to assist. All of the staff were lovely, in particular the Hotel Manager. Some restaurant staff could do with a smile more often though (at times!)

We took advantage of all free trips - catamaran cruise, snorkelling, swimming with turtles, glass bottom boat, hobie cat sailing, water ski-ing most days, kayaking and scuba briefing in the pool. One night we went to Oistins Fish Fry which was a great experience - very loud, busy and lively! We had the spiced Marlin and Mahi Mahi.

Overall the stay was great, lots of sun loungers (I think the hotel was only at about 60% capacity when we were there), good shopping and cocktails over the road at Lime Grove, we went to the karaoke/piano bar next to the hotel and walked around the local area which was perfectly safe.

Room Tip: Choose one on a higher floor (either overlooking the beach or pool) i.e. the cheaper ones will be on the ground floor (not as private) or near the road and you will get some noise.

My husband & I decided to take our son & daughter to Barbados as they were 21 and 18 this year. We love the island and thought they should visit as a special treat for their birthdays.
It was our first trip to this hotel but it will not be our last (hopefully). The whole experience was way above our expectations. The hotel location is good, excellent pool and beach, everywhere was spotlessly clean. The food was plentiful and very good. The staff were so very obliging, nothing was too much trouble, they were fantastic. Everyone was so dedicated to ensuring that the guests enjoyed their stay, from the housekeeping staff to the manager. I just want to single out some staff members although to be fair everyone was brilliant.. If you decide to try waterskiing Tyronne is a man of very few words but when he talks to you listen, he is brilliant, has unbelievable patience and taught our children to ski without any fuss whatsoever. We cannot thank him enough, every time they managed to get up he gave them more tips and by the end of our stay they were so confident and loving every minute of their time with him. Michelle in the restaurant was such a laugh and nothing was ever too much trouble. Peter from the bar was so attentive and always so very courteous. If you want to know anything ask 'Magic Michael' he would always check that everything was O.K. and remind us of all the different water sports available etc.
We would have no qualms in recommending this hotel. The owner and management should be proud of their staff and the service they provide.

Travelled to Barbados from Manchester, Had a fantastic week on Thomson Dream and then had another fantastic week at the Mango Bay Hotel in Holetown, Barbados.

There were three of us, all female and when we arrived at the hotel we were greeted very warmly be the Manageress and staff. Whilst we were checking in we were given cool drinks and as we were early we were taken to the bar where we given rum punches. (A very favourable start to the holiday).

The setting was beautiful, A lovely triple pool, surrounded by vegetation, and a few yards away the sea with waves gently lapping the shore.

After a short while we were taken to our room on the first floor. It was very spacious in spite of having an extra bed in it, with a large bathroom and a balcony overlooking the pool and if we looked to the right we could just see the sea.

Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and whatever we wanted they tried, and mainly did get for us.

The atmosphere is very relaxing and laid back and one of my friends who can never sit still managed to relax in this paradise.

It was the 8th April 2012 when we visited and the weather had started to break up, we only had one rainy day, but the sea was unsettled for about three days making it unsafe for bathing. I would book earlier next time.

The food was very good. there was always something to suit, but if not the staff would try to find something that you liked.

Two of us were badly bitten whilst we were there, but this was because we were sat out at night watching the shows and we were sat near the grass and trees. Keep away from these at night!!
Also take plenty of insect sprays and cream with you.

Room Tip: Make sure when booking that the room is on the south side. Ask for room overlooking pool and not near the road as this can be noisy at week-end.

I stayed at Mango Bay in June 2012 with my Nana. I have been many times before to Barbados but it was Nanas first time. Mango Bay is the best place by far that I have ever stayed in Barbados.
We were greated on arrival by the reception staff who organised cool wet towel and a choice of drink. Then we had a short show round of the hotel facilities.
The food was out of this world mixture between local and traditional UK food, the chef was always happy to prepare something to your taste, also mixing and matching dishes that were on the menu, (thank you chef for my blue steak at the BBQ it was lush).
The bar staff where do I start, Rondel for putting up with me, all my drink requests and making me some amazing cocktails, Dwayne for taking such good care of Nana she really appreciated it, Maureen for just being you, Peter for delivering our drinks to the poolside, Dennis and Franscois are also great bar tenders.
Reception staff were always on hand to help and make sure our stay was perfect, thank you Hermione for arranging dates with old friends on the island it meant so much.
Sherienne the hotel manager is a diamond, great asset to the company and made sure Nana was comfortable during here stay and even personally took her to the doctors in her time of need.
Housekeeping staff made sure the room was made up perfect twice a day (once in a morning and at turndown).
Thank you also to the resort tour guide who organised a small tour to suit my nana and her needs, and also took her out personally instead of sending one of his staff mambers (lovely personal touch).
The water sports which are included were great just to get of the resort complex, glass bottom boat and cataman are a must both trips are great experiences, scuba diving in the pool built my confidence up, I didnt go and do the extra ship wreck tour but now I wish I had (another excuss to come back).
My other grandparents are due to come out in October - and I know they will be really looked after at this resort.
Already planning my next trip to Barbados with my sister next year - I WILL DEFINATLEY BE STAYING AT MANGO BAY.
Thanks again to everyone, you made our stay perfect in every way possible, I look forward to seeing the new resort video (thanks gor letting me be a film star for a day).
