Yasmina Hotel Merzouga
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed May 7, 2010

Stayed here for 2 days. Please consider when coming to Merzouga, there are no cash-maschines in the village.
No possibilities to pay with plastic in the hotel. This was why we had to check out unwillingly earlier due to a lack of cash. Next time we bring more cash to stay longer in this paradise in the desert. The rooms are o.k. .Clean sheets and towels. The shower produces a little flow of water, but hey, you are in the desert. The terrace near the sanddunes inviting to relax and enjoy the scenery. Great extensive breakfast, with all you want. We did eat the best brochette ever during all Morocco-trips. The organized half-day trip by 4x4 was breathtaking. The temperatures were very pleasant in January (22C.). Great spot for bird-lovers. Yasmina is situated in an oasis, overlooking the majestic sanddunes. Very helpfull staff. Great place to forget the world and discover beauty.

It is nice to stay right below the dunes of the Sahara, but all the development is a bit of an eyesore. The company we hired a driver/guide through for a 11 day trip in the desert and Atlas Mountains which turned out to be a huge disappointment (the guide and company, not the country we saw) booked us at Auberge Yasmina.

There were 4 of us, 2 couples. We both had problems with the rooms, the shower had virtually no pressure or water ( but you are in the desert so it makes sense), the drain in the sink was super slow, and over 50% of the the lighbulbs were burnt out. The towels were pretty worn and we had a sizeable bugger on our sheets, along with a number of hairs from unkown orgin.

The water and slow drain given location make sense. The light bulbs burnt out and not replaced by the bed and in the toilett was annoying. The torn towels and dirty sheets unacceptable. We slept in our sleeping bags.

The dinner served the worst tagine we had during the entire 3 weeks in Morocco, but mabye it is b/c desert chickens are skinny?
Breakfast was typical.

We spent one night in the berber tents alone with our friends, the camel guide and cook, that was awesome. They site was the best we saw during the trek on the camels, which was hillarious and uncomfortable. The guide and cook were great and waking up and watching the sun rise over the golden dunes was an experience of a life time. The stars were were incredibly luminous.
