first of all, never be persuaded to walk to castelmola from taormina. that was my first great decision of the evening, the second and more rewarding was eating at Gallo Cedrone. forget all the other places in this delightful hill top village, this place is perfect. from the cheery and friendly greeting from Mamma we were guided to a table at this great pizzeria at the far edge of the village. its a real family run affair with Mamma, riccardo, roberto and irene running the restaurant. riccardos english is so good i had to ask how long he spent in england, the reply, 1 month in brighton. anyway, we are there to try and speak italian and not be a typical english abroad type. he was charming, brought us a fantastic vino bianco locale, a plate of bruscetta on the house and then the most delishious pizza i have ever had. thin and crispy with great pommodoro sauce and prosciutto. they make it without yeast and the result is great. we would have stayed longer but we had to make the 9.15pm bus back down that hill. i recommend this place as one of the highlights of a week in taormino, the welcome and service was exceptional and would make you go back again and again. but if you did then that shocking walk up the hill might have to be part of the plan after all those pizzas.
