“Try panini”
Reviewed July 6, 2013

Stopped here to have light lunch on hiking trip from Giardini Naxos. Ordered coffee and panini. We were served some olives and bread with nice tomato garlic topping as we waited for panini. The cheese and aubergine filled panini was perhaps the best we´ve ever had. Friendly service and good views.

“Why ask for calamari on top of a mountain?”
Reviewed July 4, 2013

After absorbing the breathtaking views from the cathedral square in Castelmola, we went looking for lunch, and I suddenly had a passion for calamari. So we looked at the menus of all the restuarants as we walked down the street, when I spotted Ricardo looking down from his restaurant terrace, so I asked him whether they had calamari for lunch. His reply was friendly, but dismissive - "Why come to the top of a mountain and ask for calamari - the seaside is the place to go?" On reflection I realised that this was good advice, and when he promised a real Sicilian food experience, we didn't hesitate. The visit to his restaurant made our holiday - I had a very tasty aubergine based type of lasagne, with a traditional Sicilian sweet afterwards. The complimentary bruchettas and complimentary almond wine to finish was a bonus, and we all fell in love with Mamma! This is a really friendly place to visit - not great views as it's on the wrong side of the street, but everything else makes up for it. Highly recommended.

“Not just a restaurant”
Reviewed July 1, 2013

This small restaurant in a breathtakingly beautiful, hillside village offers a great view of Mt Etna from its terrace, and is in every way an exceptional find. Maria, her daughter and two sons welcome you with sincerity, and from that moment on the food and the experience become memorable. Everything is prepared on demand, tastes very fresh and includes several local dishes as well as heavenly pizzas and salads. The prices are very reasonable and often includes a "bonus" dish or a free glass of the local almond wine. To miss this restaurant would be to miss one of Castelmola's many highlights.

“castelmola bar/eatery”
Reviewed July 1, 2013

Brilliant. When you get to the top of Castelmola you will be thirsty, if the heat is anything like when we were there (18th June 13) Try the Gallo Cedrone, a family run bar with Ricardo who is the friendliest Sicilian we encountered, has a great sense of humour, speaks good English and is keen to chat about surrounding areas and give you advice. Excellent bar for food or just for a drink.

“The Real Sicily”
Reviewed June 27, 2013

If you don't mind sitting on plastic chairs at plastic tables, this little gem of a bar and restaurant serves only authentic home cooked food. The whole family are part of the enterprise. Really good value.
