“Returning Guests At West Bay Lodge”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 14, 2013

We are among the many returning guests who consider West Bay Lodge our "home on vacations to Roatán. The owners, Milos and Celeste, are the primary draw in coming back. The staff greeted us by name beginning on our first day, and all of the guests have the feeling throughout their stay that they were the most important and favorite guests. When we hosted a family shrimp dinner in our bungalow one evening, we were given specialty items from the restaurant kitchen to make our meal really wonderful.

The layout of the bungalows in the garden setting around a beautiful swimming pool is so serene. It creates lots of places to enjoy the sunshine, visit with other travelers, read in solitude under the shade of mango trees, and cool off in the beautifully tiled swimming pool.

We stayed in the Royal bungalow, with a wonderful view of the ocean. We loved the upgrades that the owners have made since we stayed in this same bungalow the last time--in-room coffee to enjoy out on the deck before the included breakfast each morning, flat screen televisions, and larger safes.

We wish to express our sincere gratitude and appreciation for all of the special things that Milos, Celeste, and the staff at West Bay Lodge did for us to make this an amazing multi-generational family vacation!

Excellent and was just the kind of place we like to stay. Small number of guests meant that you could chat by the pool and still have privacy in our own bungalow. Food was great at West Bay's restaurant but plenty of other choices within a short walk. Hydroponic vegetables grown on the island meant salads were not off limits. Resort was off the beach and away from the noise and crowds, yet arrangement with Bananara for beach chairs was great. Beautiful beach. Always plenty of chairs, both shade and sun. We loved the lush tropical vegetation, friendly service andrustic feel of the place, yet with no sacrifice in creature comforts.

We visited WBL again this year and brought 6 others with us. It was their first time to the Island and we all had a great time. We were in room 4 up top, so good exercise daily! It was well equipped with stocked fridge, coffee maker, water bottle and great deck with a peek of the ocean!
Celeste and Milos and all of the staff were wonderful as usual and they even set up some Volunteer opportunities for us at the Sandcastle Library and the Flowers Bay School, Milos even drove us there and back each day!
We all enjoyed the Spa as well! Great way to unwind.
The area is great, a quick stroll to the beach and West Bay Mall across the road for any small needs. We had a great time again and look forward to coming back next year!

Room Tip: For a family rooms 5 &6 would be great, for couples any room is good!

I traveled to Roatan for the first time in March 2013 and stayed here with friends. The hotel was great! The staff was friendly, the food was good and the rum punch was delicious. They were so accommodating and helpful the entire trip. I visited the spa twice during the time that we were there and had a great, relaxing experience both times (and the prices were extremely reasonable as well). I enjoyed that it was so close to the beach, but wasn't actually on the beach, as I feel it might have been loud on cruise ship days when we decided to stay at the pool and avoid the crowds. The only thing that I didn't enjoy was the parrots - but I think that is a personal preference (or phobia). I would definitely return here before another trip to Mexico any day!

it was like being with family but my family may not spoil me as much.my husband and his friend went diving every day after a hearty breakfast and the best coffee!!!my friend has a 7 year old who spent a lot of time in the pool as we did. we could watch her at all times . the big plus of a small place!!the owners could not do enough for us and i have to give special mention to Danny and Melony. they went above and beyond. the spa was lovely. my room was too small but i was hardly in it and every other plus about the place and staff made up for it .

Besides having everything we needed and wanted, we met wonderful staff and thoroughly enjoyed the beauty of the property, the people and pets! We plan to return next year and have been heartily sharing our memories with our friends who enjoy travel.

West Bay Lodge was a beautiful place to stay not far from the beach. West Bay Beach is fairly quiet, except for the 3 days a week when cruise ships deposit their passengers there for the day. Still, Oak Street Beach in Chicago seems more crowded during the summer than West Bay Beach, even with the cruise ship passengers. WBL is about a 3 minute walk to the beach, which we liked because it was quieter at night. We also think that if you stayed in a room in a resort like Infiniti that was farthest from the beach you would probably be as far from the beach as we were.

Our room was very nice and clean and I think a good value for the money. I agree that many of the people staying at WBL were repeat visitors, and it made for a community atmosphere. We are generally relatively quiet people but we felt that we knew many of our fellow WBL visitors for years (call out to Collin, Corey and Nikki! Call out to Jeff and Melinda!)

This was our first visit and we would return. If you like more nightlife you should probably stay in West End, and take a water taxi to West Bay beach during the day. You can take a taxi to West End for the nightlife, but it could get expensive in the evening when the water taxis stop running.

The sunsets every night were spectacular, and the food at Beachers (on the beach) was our favorite- look for the specials.

We found Celeste and Milos friendly, and Melany was extremely helpful.

We liked the coffee shop across the street- I prefer half and half in my coffee and it wasn't offered in the dining room- HOWEVER I never asked them to get it and they were extremely accommodating and I suspect if I had asked we would have gotten it.
