We had a family reunion for spring break recently and decided to go to Roatan Honduras. The hotel was gorgeous with really great people and service, especially Mario Melendez and darwin, eriberto, adali, orlin, jen, maricela. The food was awesome and abundant, the rooms clean and comfortable. We would recommend this hotel to everyone!! The beaches at Roatan are the most beautiful in the world combined with a great hotel, we had the time of our lives. Thank you so much from the Famous 13!!

Room Tip: most rooms are the same except for their location. if you like privacy then close to the pool, if y...

The staff at Mayan Princess make this a truly special place. Everyone looked after us in a manner that made us feel as though we were visiting at our best friend's house. Reyna our chamber maid surprised us every day with a different towel sculpture which we enjoyed greatly and have photos of all of them. Reyna was a pleasure to speak with (our phone did translation for us). She took pride in her work, our room lacked for nothing. The food was simple but for the most part good. Byrum and Tito looked after you at the buffet cooking at the omelette station (great omelettes) or if you couldn't find something they would go out of their way to get it for you. Dinner at the buffet was at times very limited if you did not eat fish or shellfish..Anyone like myself having allergies to shellfish would be taking their lives into their own hands eating the pork or chicken next to the seafood. Cross contamination was evident every night, kids and parents using the same utensils to get their shellfish, chicken and pork . Fortunately there were other great options on the beach for dinner and at reasonable prices. Jorge, Joeham and many others made sure we had a drink if we needed one, no matter where we were (beach or even sitting on our patio). Myra was our bartender at Calketts. By the time we left we considered her a friend as well. Lany and Michelle treat you like royalty at Luna Maya. I would recommend the chef at Luna Maya be given a meat thermometer to help him cook your steak to the correct doneness requested. If travelling with Sunwing do not count on your representative to help you with any issues go directly to the management they will go out of their way to help you. Claudio only cares about the commissions he will make selling you tour packages. We booked all our tours through the resort and had no problems at anytime.
Things that were perfect about our stay: the beach, our room (ocean front walkout), the staff
Things that would make our stay better: No smoking during dining hours. There were times people were smoking in the buffet. Our reservation at Calketts would have been ruined if we were not able to move to a table up wind of the smokers. Dining tables that didn't wobble. The walking beach vendors were absolute pests. It didn't matter where you sat, at the front of the beach or at the back, they would stop and ask if you wanted to purchase their product or service every time they walked by. I would suggest that security make sure they walk along without stopping unless a hotel guest engaged them in a conversation. This would make the day at the beach much more relaxing.

Room Tip: Beach front is the best

We didn't expect much, based on some of the reviews, but boy we were wrong. This was an amazing vacation and we would like to thanks all of the staff for making it possible. The week was excellent and smoothness, that I will forgive them for not picking us up at the airport :) the taxi driver was amazing and gave us a tour. Room 228 was the best on the property and I would stay in it again. I think some of the reviewers need to learn to relax. Everything is on island time. No need to rush. It took us a few hours to figure that out, but once we relaxed, we actually enjoyed ourselves. A lot of times we had to grab our own drinks, so what! No biggie. We heard a lot of people complain about the food. We thought it was great. There were planty of options, incl salad, a variety of two to three meats and seafood and vegetables as well as dessert. We missed one night dinner, but thanks to a friendly staff member still got to eat. Don't forget, you are on an island, there are not many options. This is a small resort and you have to understand that any more food provided would most likely go to waste, that's why they keep their buffet hours short, the restaurants had nice dining options, if buffet is not your style. It actually surprised me that not more guests took advantage of it.

We did a lot of diving with Mayan Divers. Great team and highly recommend.

On this note, I would really like to thank Bairom. He made the best omelettes, always had a friendly smile and tried to interact, thought us some Spanish and went above and beyond to provide excellent service. We will be back!!!

We are in our early 50's & this is our 30th all inclusive vacation
We booked and paid for a 7 day stay in The Mayan Princess (4 star) however Sunwing
bumped us to The La sirenis. This is listed as a 3 star but the room we had was a 2 star at best.
The room was tiny, one of us had to stay on the bed while the other walked about. There was no water in the shower for 2 days and just a trickle the rest of the time. Only 1 end table, no coffee maker, no beer in the fridge. The balcony was the smallest I have ever seen.
The buildings are clustered around a really nice pool. Unfortunately this creates a sound funnel.
When there are a bunch of kids screaming & jumping in the pool you have to leave your room to escape from the racket. Our room was cleaned well each day. Those gals sure work hard.
The buffet was pitiful. We often ate off the resort. The omelette station was pretty good. The beer was excellent. In bottles! The wine was OK. I have had worse at 5 star resorts.
You had to line up in the morning for a cup of coffee. That's no way to start the day!
The service was fairly good & most of the staff were friendly.
The beach is glorious but really busy. Great snorkeling a few hundred feet up the beach.
The beach was crawling with vendors, selling food, beads, parasailing, smokes, handcrafts, massages. It was starting to on our nerves.
There seemed to be enough beach loungers & they were in decent shape.
The pool at the Mayan princess was beautiful, with lots of quiet places to relax.
The grounds were nice although at times there was a lot of garbage strewn around. That is the fault of guests, not the staff.
The dive shop on the resort was excellent, really well organized & professional.
Over all this is a very laid back resort, no need to bring the evening gowns & heels.

Room Tip: Avoid the La Sirenis, make it clear to your travel agent that you do not want La Sirenis.

Our service was great. The waitstaff overall were wonderful and food was delicious for being an all inclusive resort. Much better than those I've been to in Mexico. Carolina Murillo was our room attendant and was excellent, personable, and very attentive. The beach is gorgeous, soft sand, and calm water. Can't wait to come back to Roatan. The scuba diving was absolutely breathtaking.

We chose Roatan, as a Honeymoon destination, Dec 30 - Jan 13/2014, the Mayan Princess,
after a lot of reviewing accommodations on the computer,

We were told upon arrival, that we had the beach club, Las Sirenas. Well what a rip off,
after paying for a 4* location! we received 3* accommodation!
we were to receive a honeymoon package, well a bottle of champagne 4 days before we left, there for 14, finally came after asking and asking. No fruit basket etc, another misrepresentation,

The Sunwing rep, Claude what a piece of work he is, his comment to everything is
(IT IS WHAT IT IS) we advised him about our down grade. And not being happy, he did nothing and avoided us the rest of the 2 weeks...!!
Drill sergeant, he should not be a rep for Sunwing, no customer service, no personality.
Are those not 2 skill set points, for a travel representative..!!

New Years Gala was to be included, as per the purchase of the package, as had verified with our travel agent. good luck, tickets were $40 for us instead of $60. We chose not to go, as felt ripped off again, and then actually all other bars closed at 11:00pm on NEW YEARS EVE...!!

I'm not sure if there were bed bugs, in Las Sirenas,
as we would wake up with far more bites than when we went to bed,

Also, cruise ships, people swoop in, no respect, the security on the beach, try hard to keep the space separate, but a good time to avoid the beach, our question to staff after the first time, when is the next ship docking, so we can avoid this area.

We had shower problems for 3 days,
Day 1, not enough pressure to even take sand off, adjusted
Day 2, no hot water adjusted replaced Hot Water tank
Day 3, water all over our floor, came out again, and adjusted. And moped up the mess.

At this point I basically demanded we be moved, after asking day after day.
An owners condo, accommodation was arranged for us for the last week. On Las Sirenas side.
After being approved from the owner.
No effort to move our luggage at this point, or at check in, or check out..!! Very inconvenient.

One day management looked at our booking form, admitted we should have been on the other side, the Mayan Princess, they said nothing available, yet we heard from other vacationers there is nobody in the suite above us, etc, and then management was able to offer us a suite, if we paid $250 for an upgrade.

We were told, 3 A La Carts, and were only allowed 2, as only 2 restaurants, as not a premium level, 1 night at the beach restaurant, right in the bar, basically, we ordered steak, were told NO STEAK. Had fettuccine Alfredo, worst I have ever had, left it.

I would never stay at this location again, certain employees tried very hard, but there hands are tied. There was a huge price difference between the 2 locations, still dealing with that Nothing satisfactory to date. We were a party of 4 so the establishment made some pretty good money on our booking..

This trip can NOT be replaced, as it was our Honeymoon.......PRICELESS...!

Room Tip: Stay away from Las Sirenas. There is better out there.
