My husband and I spent three weeks in Roatan and ended back at Bananarama time after time to enjoy the beautiful location and wonderful staff. I stayed at Bananarama a long time ago and vowed never to go back. When I heard that new ownership has turned this into a great dive resort, I was still skeptical. However, Guy and his family have truly turned Bananarama into a top-notch resort and I would recommend it to any family or diver who is interested in staying in paradise.

We look forward to returning and enjoying the cold drinks, tasty food, friendly staff and AMAZING views. Our best wishes to all who travel to Roatan.

My girlfriend and I traveled to Roatan, Honduras from Toronto in early March, 2010. Much has been said in the past reviews of amazing staff, immaculate grounds, and a true feeling that you can feel at home at Bananarama. All completely true.

We took advantage of the beach and sizzle package advertised on their website, which included the room, all lunches at the Thirsty Turtle (one meal per sitting per person), 5 dinners at Thirsty Turtle and 2 dinners at the Vintage Pearl, both of which included a bottle of house wine. This package was well worth the price we paid (around CA $600 each). We stayed in room #15 which had a decent view of the beach and ocean, and had all of the amenities that we needed (and more).

I could go on about the great time we had at Bananarama, but will simply suggest that you experience it for yourself, you will not regret it.

Thanks to Guy and all the staff for making our time at Bananarama as amazing as it was. We will certainly be back!

Room – We originally picked cabana number #6, but asked to be moved after the first night because of late night noise (parting and construction) from the neighbors behind the resort. Louise (who was an absolutely pleasure to deal with when booking) was extremely kind and walked me around to a few other room options. We ultimately landed on #28, which is the studio in the Island Pearl section of the resort. The room is as the name states a studio, but it’s super cute and has a decent partial view of the beach.

Beach – The beach was everything we read it would be. Clear, calm water. Powdery white sand. Amazing snorkeling just a stones throw off the shore. Not much more to say. The beach was perfect. The resort also does a good job at shooing some of the vendors away. For the most part the vendors are nice and aren’t overbearing…though there must have been 20 different girls trying to sell massages on the beach. There trick is when you say no, they say “maybe later”…unless you want one later, just say no. Otherwise they’ll come back in an hour and ask if you’re ready for the one you indicated you wanted later. Again they aren’t bad but they definitely swarmed more on cruise days. And on that note, cruise days weren’t bad at all. Yes more people came to the beach but it was by no means over run. It just made for a daily batch of new people watching.

Restaurant – We got the beach and sizzle package, which meant all of our meals afforded us three meals a day at the thirsty turtle. The menu was large and diverse enough that while we did repeat a few meals it was mostly due to wanting to eat them again (coconut shrimp, ribs, fish and chips). Alcohol was not included in this package, but eve with having a few drinks a day for 7 days our bill wasn’t out of control. Shaney the waitress was there most days and greeted us each morning with a smile. She even brought our breakfast to our balcony one morning. Most nights there was entertainment of some sort, though as many people have noted before, the bar closes around 9:30, so if you’re looking for an all nighter, you’ll have to go down to west end. We also ate at the Island Pearl. You can read that review separately in the restaurants sections.

Bugs - We didn't have a huge issue with them. A few minor bites, but nothing the bug spray couldn't control. As a side, we took Malaria pills as a precaution. The side effects were minimal. Some vivid dreams but nothing too bad.

Overall the resort is great and is everything it’s advertised to be. No frills, family run resort with an owner (Guy) on site who is always available should you need something.

Richard and I had a wonderful week-long stay at Bananarama.
Service was great. It was especially nice to be able to stay in email contact with family and friends back home. We could not have done this without Denise. Her understanding, expertise and patient guidance made it possible for us to use our laptop during the whole trip. Thank you, Denise!

My wife and I stayed at the Bananarama Dive Resort for seven days, March 13 – March 20. The resort (Louise) was extremely prompt and helpful in our correspondences pertaining to renting a beachside room and providing transportation for us to and from the airport. The resort has a lot to offer and is a very economical option on the most popular beach on the island.

Positives -
1. Location, Location, Location (Great sandy beach) with great beach snorkeling available a short walk (3 minutes) away.

2. Fantastic Staff – From the owners (who frequently asked about our vacation needs) to the wait staff, everyone was friendly and attentive

3. Thirsty-Turtle Bar – Great food at a very reasonable price (Coconut shrimp and shrimp fettuccini) were my favorites, to drink specials of 2 for $5.00 between 4:00 P.M. and 6:00 P.M. (That is a bargain anywhere)

4. Sunday night entertainment – A great event with a band that played Jimmy Buffett, Bob Marley, and Barefoot Man songs at a pleasant volume that still allowed a conversation. The night also included crab races and fire dancers.

5. Separate bar for guests of the resort during heavy cruise ships days.

6. Complimentary breakfast with a couple of choices each morning.

7. Free Wifi

8. A great hammock on the porch (Great spot to spend a rainy afternoon)

Negatives –

1. The rooms are small and reminded me of a fishing cabin in the north woods

2. The towels had seen much better days (Think of towels that your grandparents received on their wedding day and used their entire life)

3. The shower had very little water pressure and very little temperature control

If we vacation in Roatan again we would consider staying at Bananarama but will also look into options at other locations on the island.
