This was our first time as a family; my husband, myself and our 2 teen daughters were traveling outside of the country. I was looking for a fun casual and safe place to stay on beach that would have lots of activities for the girls to do. Well, this was definitely it! There was much to do, and everyone was very friendly and helpful.

In the day time, there are kayaks to enjoy, paddle boards and snorkeling equipment to rent. Walk down to beach in front of Infinity Bay for great snorkeling. As for diving, my daughter experienced a Discovery Dive with Zoe from the Dive Center, she was absolutely wonderful. She took the time to make us feel comfortable sending our daughter out there. Our daughter now is going to pursue getting PADI certified, she enjoyed that experience and made a lifetime memory.

We stayed in 2 rooms, #17 and #!8, which were located in an area a little too busy for me, but people watching from the hammock is fun. Next time, (yes next time) we will stay in one of the villas on the other side. The rooms are basic, so don't go expecting chic, they are rustic and cabin-like. But colorful, clean, comfortable beds and with ample space for everything.

Places to eat are all within walking distance if you choose not to eat here. There was pizzarama (kids liked that.), and there was a good selection on the menu. We didn't eat dinner here, though for no particular reason so I can't comment on what the food was like. Some of our favorite dinners were coconut shrimp and lobster dinners at Fosters and Paradise Hotel.

For us parents The Thirsty Turtle is a very lively place to be, great happy hour and fast bartenders. Met one of the owners of this resort, Jeff; awesome guy. Every night there is something going on, so this place is not for someone looking for a quiet place in the evening.

Be sure to visit Anthony's Key for the Dolphin Encounter and Snorkel; that was a highlight of the trip for our daughters. Book a couple days in advance, though you made need more advance notice if you are going during cruise season.

This resort is centrally located to all you need, there is a little market place with excellent coffee/wine cafe (JavaVino) only a couple blocks away. There is a convenient grocery store; a quaint noodle restaurant on the way and across the street is a charming place to eat (Celeste's) great staff there; Darson and Andreas!

Great beach, great atmosphere and awesome people looking forward to visiting again.

Room Tip: If you like quiet, stay in rooms on the opposite side of the Thirsty Turtle.

Just got back 4 weeks ago from Bananarama and really enjoyed it. It is a great place for a family or couple to go and experience island life. This is not the resort if you want marble countertops and giant soaking tubs. Now if you do want a great beach with good snorkeling and a laid back feel, this is a great place to go. The staff are really helpful and fun. We had many meals and drinks at the Thirsty Turtle and really enjoyed every visit. Dishon and Ghilbert were two of the great wait staff that took care of us. All the waiters we had were genuinely nice and very helpful. The food is casual but good and the drink specials were a bonus. I should also mention that Banarama has a security staff who make sure guest areas are kept for guests and were always willing to answer questions we had. The rooms were not huge nor the latest in décor but we stayed in #19 and it was comfortable, very clean, and a very short walk to the beach. We did not have any issues with noise or anyone bothering us. The cleaning staff were attentive and each day when we got back from the beach the room was cleaned and ordered. We only spent about an hour or so each day in our room when we were not sleeping. You can do as much as or as little as you like on the island and we spent many of our days under the palm trees watching the beach, the water, and the people. Water Taxis are available for trips to other spots on the island as are land taxis. We also enjoyed heading up and down the beach trying other restaurants and bars but often spent sunset at the resort which has a great area to look over the beach. It is lively without being excessively so. We could always talk and we met a lot of other nice guests who shared their experiences and gave us some pointers. It should be noted that some prices for some activities were negotiable. We recommend Bananarama and plan to return with our kids.

Room Tip: We stayed in Room 19 and had no issues with noise. Wifi did not work in the room but was available o...

We just returned from a fantastic week enjoying the hospitality of one of the nicest resorts on Roatan. We have stayed here before and have always enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere, rustic cabanas, and activities including diving. The resort, while small by some standards, has everything you would want to just unwind and take it easy. The nightly activities of things like music, crab races and fire dancers, plus movie on the beach seem to hit the spot. While our entire group was composed of scuba divers and we also went for diving, the on land activities were just enough to put a relaxing end to a day of diving. We even went on a tour of island with Steven to see some of the other areas you do not normally see just traveling around to tourist sections of island. The food at the Thirsty Turtle was fine and reasonable in price. Their specials each night leave you plenty to choose from. Look for their specials. There are also other restaurants within walking distance down the beach for a change of pace.

All staff were friendly and responsive to our needs. Their internet service allowed for checking e mails, and web browsing if you have someone that just can not live without the internet. The cabanas are clean and roomy enough to meet your needs. Housekeeping did a good job of cleaning each day and placed an animal on bed made of towels--a nice touch.Would like to say we will miss staff that worked so hard to make our stay memorable--Carolina, Dishon, Denise, Virginia(in Office), Steven, and the dive staff--Marco, Lanita, and Zoey. The diving was great and both Lanita and Zoey did a great job selecting sites to dive based on conditions. Both checked for visibility issues before diving, and gave a good dive briefing for each dive. Their dive boats are usually not crowded like some we saw with lots of divers crowded into them. Most dives we had 5 divers or less in our group. Met some wonderful people on dives and we were able to exchange dive info during meals at the Thirsty Turtle etc. If you are looking for reasonable prices, friendly people, and owners that are on site to handle any issues then this is a place for you. We will be returning again in the future.

Room Tip: The rooms back from beach area are a bit quieter than ones near Thirsty Turtle as music plays until...

Zoe is amazing! So knowledgeable, professional, and encouraging! Couldn't ask for a better dive master! She spent the week taking us to awesome sites and educated our family to complete the night dive and deep dive adventure dives to use toward our advanced open water diving certification.

His was our second trip to Bananrama after a week long mission trip near San Pedro Sula. (Note - Bananarama gives discounts if you're from a mission trip).

There was not even a discussion as to whether to return or not. Are there "nicer" hotels? Yes but we spoke to many couples who were staying at these places - yet they were at OUR hotel enjoying the atmosphere! The rooms are great. Nothing fancy but you don't spend much time in the room. If you're into scuba- THIS is the place to be.

Kudos to the ladies in the front office- Bianka and Denise! Bar/restaurant guy Stephen was exceptional.

Just stay here and enjoy the movies on the beach, crab races, fire dance and great happy hours. Everyone else does!

Brienoc,

We are hoping that the third time is better than the Second and First! Each year we improve a little bit based on comments, reviews and direct guest feedback:) Thank you so much for your recommendation, patronage and of course all the fun times.

We do have a number of different discounts that are available here at Bananarama... We do mission trip discounts, medical discounts, return guest discounts, flight staff, etc...

Thank you again and we are getting ready to see you soon:)

I have been to Bananarama three times. It is a wonderful vacation spot and has a great dive shop as well. The staff is amazing and we feel like we are visiting family when we arrive. Carolina is a gem.

My only complaint is if you stay near the Thirsty Turtle you will have some terrible Karaoke nights and loud music that doesn't stop until 11:00 pm.

Seatart,

Thank you for your review and comments. We have a number of accommodation styles and locations... Rooms 22 and 17 through 20 can be prone to some fun, but ear shattering Karaoke nights:) I would advise all guests to research and ask us where their accommodation will be located... the Garden rooms, Villas and Beachside units 15 and 16 are by far the quietest and the other rooms that we have really depend upon the guests... I have had guests who love room 22 because "they don't miss a beat and its not too far to crawl". We do pride ourselves as being a family oriented resort, but after 9pm even those who don't sing well try out Karaoke:) On the bright side it is only on Saturdays and Tim the host is very good and plays to the crowd... I have seen kids singing songs as well as adults. It's great clean fun:)

Thank you again for your review and for taking the time to share your thoughts and experience with us. We look forward to your return.
Sincerely,
Louis
