Certificate of Excellence

We stayed at Bananarama Dec 3-10 through SunWing, almost All Inclusive (pay for alcohol). No sense preaching to the converted here, everything about our stay was excellent. But the most impressive thing about this place is the on site ownership and how proud they are of their 91 staff. And with good reason. Its not fair to single out one staff member over over another, they all were great and each contributes to the experience in their own way. Other than staff, there was not one thing that made this place great; the beach, food, bar, room, atmosphere, smooth water, snorkling, all added up to our wonderful trip. We have not been to a resort where the staff were so personable, and where if you had an issue, Louis or Jeff (part of the ownership group) where there to greet you, and make it right. The Vintage Pearl was a great restaurant meal with a large wine selection. Alcohol is reasonably price, and VERY generous. The bar closes at 10 pm. The pizzaeria was very good, as were all of our meals at the Turtle, and I am Jonesing for a fish sandwich. But I do have to point out Zebby at the bar. He truly gets life, muddles the best mojito I ever had, and everytime I hear Buffalo Soldier, I will fondly remember him and his co-workers, and our vacation here. This isnt Sandals or Beaches, or any of the others, but a down to earth experience with real people both clients and staff. Just a hint, if you plan an excursion, etc.,try to do it when the Cruise ships are in. It does get busy. We do hope to return someday. Rob and Miss Gloria.

Room Tip: Try to stay away from the pathway that the cruise shippers use when they come to the resort. If you...

Bananarama is located on probably the best beach of Roatan, along with a whole host of other resorts and villas. Because of the beach, Bananarama/West Bay is a hot-bed for the cruiser ship/day hoppers...you can spot a cruise shipper a mile away (chances are...they will be a lot closer than that).

Overall, the accommodations are not unlike anything you will find on the beaches of Thailand. They are simple and clean; sufficient for chilling out in and sleeping in. The toilet does have a slight smell, but something you just accept. The bar (Thirsty Turtle) is always lively, with something happening every night; from movies, to karaoke to live music. If you enjoy hanging out in a community (of other tourists) when you are on vacation, this is a good place for you! At the same time, it is not crazy like a night club. Service wise, maybe it was because it was really crowded, and we are pretty low key; we did not receive the excellent service everyone was raving about.

The window for breakfast is rather short (8am to 9.30am. If you are a diver..its 7.45am.. but you have to be at the dive centre at 8.15am). If you want a cooked breakfast/anything prepared, my advice is to go earlier (before 7.45am) and wait. Some divers did not manage to get their breakfast in time and I wished they would be flexible to offer breakfast till 11am (after the 1st dive). We got by with the cereal they laid out. :)

The best part of Bananarama is the location (west bay) and the dive centre.
Stay in west bay if you want to mix your diving with some nice beach time (on non-cruise ship days). The food on west bay is generally the same - Amercianised food, grilled seafood and cocktail drinks that is a little too sweet for my liking. There are restaurants along the beach which are within walking distance. While I really enjoyed my time at Bananarama, you cant shake the feeling that everything there has been engineered for the (largely) American cruise crowd. While we prefered the backpacker-ish vibe of West End (a US$3 water taxi ride away), the beach there pales in comparison to West Bay.

We do aim to deliver excellent customer service to all of our guests. Christmas and New Year's week are very difficult for us and the island as a whole in regards to being able to serve everyone as they are our busiest two weeks of the year. During this time we do our very best to try and insure each guests happiness. I would highly recommend for each guest who is looking for a more tranquil stay here or anywhere on the island to not book around Christmas, New Years or Easter week. We love to serve all our guests and are in the business of making our guests happy and will do everything we can, but can not change the Holiday schedule, weather or cruiseship season :)

My 18 year-old twin sons and I spent the week before Christmas at Banarama Beach and Dive Resort. The lodging is great, but what really makes the stay at Banarama fantastic is the help. The help is very friendly, courteous and helpful. They make you feel important, like you own the place or something. One of the waiters at the bar was particularly amazing, his name is Adolfo. He seemed to always be there when you needed him, but not so much to be an annoyance. He was courteous and efficient.
Then there is the diving and the snorkeling. The dive masters are very helpful and knowledgeable (and patient). The coral, fish and other ocean life you see is terrific.

Like a lot of people also say, this place is friendly and has that rustic island feel with the lodging and overall atmosphere. It is on the nicest stretch of beach on the island, and we strolled up and down discovering little places every night, but coming back to the Thirsty Turtle. The employees were great. Shout out to Sandra, Eddison, Jessica, and the helpful staff at the reception area. It was also very nice that one of the owners, Louis, would introduce himself and ask how everything was.

Marco the divemaster took us on GREAT dives...saw some very cool stuff! He will hook you up! All in all, very nice place to meet other divers and passers-by...there is entertainment nightly at the Thirsty Turtle, and food is great. Stop next door at Vintage Pearl for a filet mignon and a bottle of red for a change of pace. Believe it or not, I actually needed a break from all the tasty fresh lobster, fish, and shrimp!

Room Tip: Cabanas in the back behind the dive shop are quietest...especially if you're diving and need you...

All of the service team was excellent and very kind toward us. We felt like being home! The food served in the thirsty turtle was delicious and also the drinks and cocktals! We remember the girls at the reception: Sara, Daneri, Denisse and Victoria they were always willing to help and solved everything faster; besides, they made us feel comfortable. We definitely will come back to this place, it made our trip even better. See you soon....

This hotel was awesome. It gives you a more rustic feel than other hotels on the island and still has most of the luxuries of the others. The employees were absolutely unmatched. I usually like to do a lot of exploring, but ended up spending almost every night at the Thirsty Turtle. Zebby, Derry, Eddison, Angela & Sandra at the bar were incredible entertainment! Before I was used to the currency conversion, I accidentally left a waiter a $20 tip at breakfast and he ended up finding my room and asking if I meant to. Their on site massages from Edgar are also a must-do. The activities staff was very helpful, we set up a trip with Franklin and it was awesome, he brought us places we NEVER would have found on our own, I loved the spider monkeys. I'll definitely be going back.

This is a must go! our waiter on the thirsty turtle, Victor Palacios, was amazing! Me and my wife could not be anymore happy! our only problem was with the activity center, dont take the snorkeling + dolphin show + starfish, its a complete rip-off!!!!!! the "show" is just being on a boat that goes near the place were the dolphins are... then they show you 2 or 3 starfishes on the boat, the they take you to a very bad place for snorkeling... we paid 45$ each for that... then we found out that you can get the same trip at the beach for 15$!
but the rest is perfect, we were on a very calm week of december not too many people so it was very relaxing, the hotel is great and clean. the diving is also great!! we will go back for sure!
