“Good value appartments in a wonderful ski resort”
Reviewed March 4, 2011

We stayed in an appartment with one double room and one small bunk alcove. The appartments still look new and are tastefully furnished. The double bed was a decent size and very comfortable. The bunk room was small but adequate. The slight drawback was that the floor was tiled which would not be ideal if a child fell from the top bunk. The kitchen area was clean and well equipped and the sitting room area was light and airy. Our appartment overlooked the pool and out towards the mountains. We loved the view. We were far enough from the road not to hear any traffic noise. The swimming pool was warm and it was fun swimming outside with the snow falling. The indoor swimming pool is only one metre enabling you to get in the water before going outside. The only disappointment was the spa area. You need to book this as only about 10 people are allowed to use it at once. The steam room was fine. The jacuzzi was too small and it would be a squeeze to get 4 people in. The ski room was adequate and from there you can walk out and across the road to the slopes if you are an intermediate skier. Beginners would need to get the bus which comes past frequently at ski school time.
Overall we found le Hameau des Airelles to be very good value and Montgenevre is a great resort for families with two good ski schools.

Just back from a week's skiing. Snowing as we arrived in Turin, which was brilliant as the southern Alps had been rather short of snow. Montgenevre is a small and friendly resort, with plenty of long, sunny, leg-busting but easy runs (suitable for us over 60s!). More difficult ones also available if you like the steep icy stuff. Which we don't.
Le Hameau des Airelles apartments have only been open for a couple of seasons and are still in good condition, clean and well looked after - inside. Outside will need some attention soon: there's a lot of wood that will need treating. Reasonable living space and excellent facilities (TV, DVD, Cooker etc all worked well). Sauna and steam room were good, and the heated outside pool was not huge but was fine. A larger one would have cost more to heat. Staff always helpful.
We were on the 3rd floor of an annex to the main building, which meant less noise and super views. If I can do the technology I'll post a photo of the view from our (large) balcony.
Bread shops and mini markets nearby, also good range of cafes and restaurants.
Lovely place, will go again.

Residence was comfortable and well furnished .Could have done with the 3 bedroomed one for the 5 of us. Beds strangely uncomfortable and not sure cleaning the apartments was up to standard. However, outdoor pool would have been great if not full of unaccompanied kids lobbing snowballs into the pool. Sauna/ hammam therefore a refuge for over 18s only.
Great as so close to the pistes and people in resort so friendly[locals]
Must mention the Staff who were fantastic when our friend almost went into a diabetic coma and they gor in the Pompiers and ambulance as well as coca cola1
So caring also when volcanic ash prevented our return flight and we had to retain the hire car. they called the company and also Easyjet for us with no charge. Cannot praise them enough and thanks to them no real disasters.

Good points;
Can ski back to hotel
Can borrow DVDs from Reception
Kitchen well equipped

Negative points:
Leisure complex tiny and indoor pool non-existent
Linen was dirty on arrival, asked a few times for it to be changed but ended up having to do it ourselves
Apartments for 4 are small for a family of 4, even with 2 young children
Need to get bus to lessons in the morning, as lifts not open
Reception only open late afternoon, so have to wait until then to check in
Room not cleaned through week

As we come from north of uk our school hols at easter were from 27th March to 11th April, so there seemed to be a bit of price saving for our week in the Apts in Montgenevre on a Neilson package about £400 each. On arrival in resort we walked up the road to teh Apts while our cases came up in a free taxi, it was lunch time and the reception was open and our room available. We had a 4 berth apt , but as only 2 of us we never used the bed settee. The apts still have the new feel and have evrything for a comfortable stay. it is useful that the toilet is seperate to the bathroom too. we were on the ground floor and from our balcony had a view of gap in the piste where you ski from to 2 major chair lifts (one also with gondola). Also included is a ski locker down by the car park under the apts, the number of this matched the room no/key. we got in the rouutine of skiing from 9:30 to 3pm and then coming back to the apts for a swim in the pool, children are not allowed in spar are, but this was not a problem, and the pool was never packed. Then we would chill in the lounge by the fire, while daughter contacted the world vis the wifi link. The village has few restaurants, but choice in evenings is a bit limited, as the extensive lunchtime menus stop at 4pm, so a couple of nights we ate in after buying produce from the local store just 30m away, the bakers is the same distance as is twinner ski hire where good online discounts can be had. we had a wonderful week with snow alternate day so despite being "late " season the snow was fantastic and never slushy. like others have commented this is jewel that UK skiers have not latched onto yet, the standard 6 day lift pass cover the Monte de lune area, so you can ski to Italy (Claviere) every day if you like, also 1 day in full milky way is included, or 1 day Serre Chevalier, Neilson were running a bus on Friday's there for 20 euro.
we hope to go back in 2012

A group of 8 of us (4 couples) went for the week late Jan 2010. We used Neilson who booked this hotel as part of the package they offer.
The fact on arrival we had no taxi and the rep knew less about the resort than we did (having never been before) did not get us off to a great start. The hotel is located at the far end of the village (you can walk from one end of the village to the other in 10/15 mins without ski gear)
The hotel is new and clean but does have a few problems.
The pool and leisure complex is tiny. It can not cope with half the people there and we went "out of season" . It states indoor and outdoor pool but don't be fooled...... the indoor section is approximately 1 square metre (photo's can be so deceiving!!!). There is no cleaners who attend to your room via your stay ie: your beds don't get made, you put your rubbish out, and most importantly ........ you need to buy toilet roll.. :>), A bug was running through the resort when we were there so this caused some..... shall we say issues.

It's not all bad,the rooms are clean on arrival, good size and layout. We had an appartment which said it could sleep upto 6 (2 on the sofa bed) we only had 2 so were spoilt. You could sleep 4 in comfort but not 6. The kitchens were almost perfect with every tool you could need so eating in was a doddle.
The massive problem are the beds. They make the junk from Ikea look comfortable!!! every morning people would be nursing sore backs and stiff necks from a poor nights sleep (even after a bit of apres!) and the temparture seemed to go from 15c to what felt like a 30c having to open a door to cool down.

Overall it was a brilliant holiday. I would recommend this hotel for families and the fact you can ski in ski out was by far a deal breaker, excellent links from the two lifts near the hotel to both france and Italy.
Lots of restaurants and very good bars for local beer, nobody on the slopes but the guides stated it does get busy in Feb.

If your going wrap up warm we usually ski the Port Du Solie and this was so much colder. but most of all enjoy ..... we did :>)

Just back from a new year break here with friends and family.

Montgenevre is fantatsitic and the the snow was very very good.

The apartments and very clean and modern and well equiped if not boiling hot all the time !

But beware its a good 15 minute walk to the ski school which with children and all ski stuff is not good. The roads are icy and there is a lot of traffic about despite the tunnel which was bulit a few years ago. To avoid this check out the ski bus. It took us a few days to organise as our neilson rep didnt have a clue !

We also could not get the key to the aprtment until 5.15pm which was not ggod as we had been up since 3am and were 5 hours waiting in Turin for another flight to arrive so we could transfer to the resort. We then had a 3 hour wait for the key !!

Other than that Montgenevre is short on good quality accomodation and this place does fit the bill. Strictly you can ski to the door and if some of the lifts open a bit earlier you could ski a good green run to ski school but the timing does not work unless you are having lessons in the afternoon.
