Description: Restaurant-brasserie in the heart of Chatel-St-Denis, close to the public transport. The house also owns 4 bedrooms. The cheese fondue has been a family tradition for a century. In addition to its delicious fondue, the restaurant is famous for its inside, adorned with figures carved in wood. Each table is unique, carved or inlaid. And rather ironic, if the opposite of Tivoli is "i lov it" you will come again very soon.

We were taken here by our Swiss friends who live in Chatel St Denis. Rustic small restaurant with the best cheese fondue ever. We had vacherin fondue. Evidently it is very difficult to prepare correctly with more than one type of cheese. Whatever cheese is in the fondue it was unbelievable. Don't know how many calories but did not care. If you in Laussane or Montreaux try to get there you won't be disappointed.

We went here with another family, so 4 adults & 4 kids under 13. We had great fondue & wonderful wine. For all of us it was about 160chf. No dessert since we were full. Nuggets are in the menu for the little ones & my 5 year old ate them up. Will definatly return. We are Americans living in Switzerland for the last 1.5 yr & I am always in the lookout for a great fondue. The decor really makes the place quite charming.

We go there several times a year. It's always crowded, so book in advance.

It's always an argument between the locals in Chatel between Tivoli and Cercle d'Agriculture. Tivoli is always my first choice when introducing foreigners to art of the 100% vacherin Fondue. If it's just me and my girlfriend, we alternate between the two.

Let's be clear- 100% vacherin fonude is very tough to find outside Fribourg- in part because it's tricky to make....so dont screw around....get in a car and come to Chatel (or Fribourg (see my other review on the Cafe du Midi in downtown Fribourg).

As for the Tivoli, it's a charming restaurant where you get a feel for the local Swiss culture in the decor. The service is pretty snappy though not overly friendly (which is a good sign....means they havent really changed to suit more Anglo 'customer first' thinking)- what matters most is that the fondue moitier moitier and of course the Fribourgeoise are excellent. Well worth a drive from the Lausanne area for lunch or dinner and easier than going all the way to Fribourg.

Everything you have ever thought of as picture postcard Switzerland is there fore you. Pretty village, snowy landscape children playing snowballs with pristine snow a charming cafe with the panelling carved with portraits of local characters plus the woodcarvers name all very rustic and cowbells (giant ones-don't know how the cow lifted its head)Cross stitch and drawn thread half curtains so the world outside is visible-though I didn't notice a cuckoo clock. Waitresses very jolly in peasant costume-I kept expecting people to get up and yodel. Everything you would expect in Switzerland. Fondue is half and half or Vacherin-we were 4 and 2 children but just had food for four-ample quantity. Very sleepy after as there is of course wine in the fondue-so beware if driving home. Was a guest so don't know prices but warm and welcoming place.
