Our stay at the Roman Lake was exceptional. It was not planned in our trip to stop in Balapitiya since we had already booked a hotel in Bentota but we decided that we could have some more days of relax. Instead of going to another hotel in front of the sea, we thought it would be nice to be close to the Madu Ganga and we found a good deal with the Roman Lake. Before arriving, they called to make sure we knew how to get to the hotel. Once we entered the hotel, we were astonished. The decoration is fantastic and the views breathtaking, but also the welcoming warm that we felt and how they explained things to us. They wanted us to feel it as home, and indeed we did. They offered us a fresh juice and showed us the property. The rooms are amazing, with attention to every detail. All of them have views to the garden and the ones on the first floor have an outdoor jacuzzi in each terrace. It was nice to finally find a nice bathroom with toiletries and white towels. The bed was new and extremely comfortable. They provide also each room with fridge, free water and tea or coffee. We were lucky to be the only guests in the hotel since it was not high season and we could enjoy the great swimming pool. Second night, we stayed in for dinner. They prepared us a romantic dinner next to the pier. Service and food were amazing both for dinner (curry extremely recommended, first time we could eat everything because it wasn't too spicy) and also breakfast. Even though they had to give us a second room due to a little technical problem, our stay at the Roman was outstanding. Best service we haver ever received and seen.

Absolutely magic - Roman Lake is everything you could want it to be. The calm efficient and delightful staff looked after us very well. Breakfast was delicious, as was the food generally. Beautiful setting, clean and well maintained all round. Wifi not excellent.

The rooms in the hotel are huge not to mention the spectacular views and Jacuzzi in the balcony. The staff were really friendly. Despite its hidden location Roman lake made up for it with incredible views and service delivered

There are so many boutique hotels popping up in Sri Lanka but this one stands out above the rest. I had only booked for 3 nights but cancelled my next hotel and stayed here for a week.
The location is amazing, right on the Maduganga Lake. You can watch the fishermen catching fish in the mornings, many birds flying around and monkeys playing in the surrounding trees. Such a peaceful and relaxing setting.
The grounds of the hotel are kept immaculate, as is the good sized swimming pool and the beautiful large and spacious rooms. The staff are constantly keeping all of the hotel looking flawless.
The food is fantastic, in particular the Sri Lankan breakfast and Rice and Curry were delicious. One of the chefs also made an off the menu Seafood platter which was absolutely amazing. The western breakfasts are huge so sometimes you cant fit in lunch afterwards. Everything is cooked fresh to order.
This hotel isnt licensed but management is happy for you to go to the local wine store and bring in your own alcohol. They even offered to go get me whatever i needed if i just paid the small amount for the tuk tuk. Such amazing service. It is rare in a hotel that both the staff and management are fanstastic, but here they all go above and beyond to make this feel like a second home.
The hotel also help to arrange a boat safari and other tours with the boat picking you up from the hotels private jetty.
I cant say enough about this hotel.
Definitely my favourite hotel in Sri Lanka and i will be coming back. A big thank you to Dushan, Malith, Shamith and all the staff for an absolutely amazing stay.
