I had known the co-owner for the last 30 years, well before he decided to open with a friend the restaurant "La Cucina di Petrarca", and each time I was his guest at his house, I was always impressed by his passion for cooking, food and wine. As a former farmer, among other activities his family was involved in, he understands deeply the basics of the ingredients he personally selects for the kitchen and the wines.

My first time in "La Cucina di Petrarca", this week was an excellent experience, but I had no doubt about it when a common friend invited me for dinner.
As soon as we parked the car in the restaurant customers car park, the tempting smell of the freshly baked cookies created a very positive expectation.
A full table at the entrance of home made cookies of at least 15 different varieties arranged with style in different trays immediately set the standard of the restaurant.

The dinner was excellent, starting with hot fried bread pasta "Gnocco Fritto " with superb San Daniele Prosciutto, followed by a vegetarian "pasta alla carbonara" (large spaghetti drawn in bronze) with egg yalk and thin pepper slices instead of the traditional smoked ham.

As a main course I asked for mixed grilled vegetable, since I indulged on the San Daniele Prosciutto, but I don't like meat in general: each vegetable in the large plate was a little pleasant surprise, since a special care had been taken to enrich each of them with other ingredients.

Although meats, especially grilled are the "forte" of this restaurant, even a non orthodox vegetarian like myself, could be taken care of.

A selection of cheese, with different fruit confitures on polenta leaf shaped supports was the closing plate of the dinner, since at that point I had to give up on the so expected cookies, of which I had two, I must admit, before the meal: I couldn't resist the smell and the perfect hot temperature, just out of the oven, when I walked in the restaurant.

The view from the outside terrance, where we had dinner, is staggering, at the top of the Arqua Petrarca village hills.

A large wine selection can accommodate any standard and special needs, including local wines grown of the Colli Euganei hills.

I will definitely go back.

We arrived at the restaurant in a violent thunderstorm. When we entered the restaurant, it was warm, a fire going in the cooking area, and soft lighting throughout. Everything about our visit was very good: the welcome and service, the food, the wine and the ambiance. I asked for my steak med. rare and that's what I got. We had a plate of grilled vegetables with our entrees and they were a great assortment and perfectly done. However, you should be aware that portions are very generous. We were so full that we took half of our meal with us to have the next night in the apartment we were renting and they were just as good the second day.
