It was by partly chance and a referral from our wonderful guide at Voyageur Quest (voyageurquest.com) that we arrived at Sherri's Diner; and what a wonderful coincidence it was! She is so friendly, charming and welcoming. We planned on having a warm drink and a snack; as it was mid-afternoon; and already had lunch. When presented the option of Sherri's Chile, including an order of toast from her fresh baked loaves of bread + a beverage and desert ...for the paltry sum of $6.....we succumbed. And delicious it was...to the bottom of the large bowl! This a not only a diner; but a community centre....locals hanging out, kids dropping by after school; and folks like us waiting for the Ontario Northland bus linking points both north and south all the way to Toronto ( a 5 hour trip - including the many local stops.) although she closes at 3 PM, she said just wait here until the bus arrives at 4:40 ....or later!
If you find yourself In South River; and you may, as it is an entry point to Algonquin Park, be sure to stop at Sherri's Diner.
