My husband and I just returned from a 4-night stay at Silver Birches in mid-May and we will cherish the memories from this getaway for a lifetime. Overall, I would say that our trip was so memorable because of two main factors: the people we met and the breathtaking natural setting. I am sure that Silver Birches is a place we will return to again and again- our newest tradition!
The management went above and beyond our expectations- so unbelievably generous, friendly and welcoming. The family who runs the resort quickly befriended us and welcomed us into their community of kind, fun-loving friends. We had just a fantastic time getting to know them and we could tell it was important to them that we enjoyed our stay at Silver Birches. Their website says "happy hour starts when you get here" and they weren't kidding! These folks were a blast, and they've got hearts of gold.
We enjoyed fishing, hiking the extensive trails on their breathtaking property, seeing the local wildlife, campfires with new friends, eating breakfast on the tranquil stony beach and watching incredible sunsets from our deck. My husband was at work during the day but I was never bored- too much to see and do and too many great people to meet! We were also grateful to find a place that was so wonderful about us bringing our dog. I actually think our pup wanted to stay behind when it was time to go home!
We stayed in Cabin #9. It was rustic, clean, private and surrounded by nature. There was a great deck with a breathtaking view of the water (sunset- WOW!) and path down to the beach. The website advised that the cabin was very basically equipped so we brought some amenities from home, but only ended up using our own towels (though we were offered some by the owners), dish soap/cloth, large travel mugs and griddle. I am sure that the managers could get you anything you needed (they asked us several times if we required anything), but as the website advises, it's a good idea to remember that they advertise their cabins as not completely-stocked in terms of odds-n-ends so bring anything you can't live without just in case. Our cabin had a basic set of plates/cups/utensils for 4, coffee maker, toaster, microwave, oven/stove, full fridge with freezer, clean sheets with nice pillows with a FABULOUS mattress on the bed, comfy couch, jacuzzi tub and a stunning stone fireplace. We were cozy and comfortable there.
To anyone considering this resort, I strongly advise that you read their website's "RATES" page- they are very transparent about what to expect. If you aren't into what comes along with a cabin experience in the wilderness (the odd bug, woodland creatures, and rustic accommodations), then maybe a 5-star spa resort in New York is a better vacation for you... we don't want grumpy, complaint-driven people with unrealistic expectations giving our new friends a hard time! On the other hand, if you are friendly, low-maintenance and laid-back folks, I can't recommend this place highly enough. I am sure you will love Silver Birches just as much as we did. It was perfect for folks like us!
