We stayed only one night, but should have stayed longer. Our hosts were wonderful, my French is not very good, but Monique was very patient, she welcomed us with coffee, and a tour of her beautiful garden. Our room was perfect, lots of room, and the bed was huge, and so comfortable, I had the best sleep of our vacation. Now lets talk about breakfast, home made yogurt with tiny little local berries, and essence of geranium, 15 different kinds of confiture, from fig, to rosé hip, cherry to mango, all made by our host, what a delight. We also had local sausage, bread and wonderful cheese. We would definitely recommend, and definitely stay again.

I had a great stay and ran into some interesting people – all of them long time repeat guests. I wish hospitality was this way everywhere in France – not only in the pays des cathares. Thank you and stay as you are.

This is a real gem of a hotel and town. A real French experience. Unbeatable in value and so much more than the big cities. Thoroughly recommend. 18 jams and marmalades, all home made, for breakfast. Room spotless and full of antiques and character. Village has everything - an afternoon in the town sqare area with a local meal and local wine is a true French experience.

Room Tip: They will all be stunning with their antiques and furniture.

Monique and Pierre were so welcoming - this is just what a traditional B & B should be. Breakfast was amazing - Monique cooked pastries and small cakes and her jams and preserves were out of this world. Leucate itself was a little haven. Good restaurants within walking distance.

We would definitley return!

Room Tip: Rooms at the back of the house are quieter

My family stayed here for 4 nights, in the rooms at the top of the house. Monique in particular went out of her way to welcome us at all times, always with a smile on her face. With our limited french and their limited english we managed to communicate, Monique patiently helping us along with our best efforts! The rooms were spacious and furnished with antique furniture and beautiful linen. We also had the loft room which has 2 beds, but I would only recommend this for small children, or one older child/adult as the headroom is very limited. We enjoyed meeting other people at the communal breakfast table. Leucate was a good find, and with our hire car we were able to enjoy all the surroundings, and especially enjoyed La Franqui beach. It was a real bonus having a fridge to store drinks and a little food, and also a kettle for the odd cup of tea.

If you are looking for an alternate site to enjoy miles of beaches on the Mediterranean Sea at a fraction of Côte d’Azur, Leucate is the place. Leucate is not in any tour-guide book and it is a genuine small French town. While I stayed there for two months last year, I ran into one couple speaking English one morning at an open-air market, which happens twice a week right in front of the house.

If you like water sports, two large salt-water lagoons are a perfect place to test your skills at kite-surfing, wind-surfing, or water-skiing.

You can also make one-day trips to many places like Carcasonne, Narbonne, Colliure, Perpignan, and even to the northern Spain.

This B&B is in the center of the town and you can find everything you need right outside their door – fruit stands, post office, hardware store, butcher/deli, drug store, boulangerie, cafés and restaurants.

If you don’t speak a word of English, not to worry. Pierre and Monique will never make you feel awkward and there will be guests who speak English and you will manage to communicate with dictionaries and gestures.

They serve copious breakfast family style in a beautiful garden just outside their kitchen. I saw at least 8 different home-made jams, cold cuts, breads, cheeses, fruits, cereals, coffee, and tea.

If you go there by train, they will pick you up (what a service!) at Leucate-La Franqui train station and if you stay more than 3-6 nights, depending on the season, you can borrow their bicycles for free.

All bathrooms are spotlessly clean and the rooms are large and bright.

But most of all, the best feature of this B&B is Pierre and Monique. They love what they do and you will feel it the first day you meet them.
