We took a 2 hour tour with a stop to drink wine and snack and watch the sunset.

It was marvelous. For my wife it was the first time on a horse and she loved it. There are several horses available for group riding. They are all well looked after and tamed, used to different riders and simply beautiful animals!

John is a character. He apparently spent half of his life on a saddle and can tell tricks even to experienced riders. He also has a polo riding school. He explained averything thoroughly: instructions on how to ride a horse, safety and described the vegetation and the features of the landcsape as we went along.

His wife was very kind and helpful to arrange this tour for us on a very short notice (this is not always possible, therefore it would be advisable to book in advance). Spike, his son, joined us towards the end of the trip. He arranged a small picnic. We had a lovely break:good white wine, savoury snacks and above all a great company for a chat in a beautiful landscape at dawn. We left the premises with heart full of joy, love for these amazing horses and admiration for the lifestyle of jJhn and his family.

We highly recommend this experience to everyone!

Went on a sunset ride and really enjoyed it. Even though a storm raged through the area just a few days before almost all of the trails in the forrest got cleared again. Located on the mountain range between Tullbagh and Ceres. Beautiful horse, very easy going and well trained. Didn't feel scared at all. The walk took me through the winelands and some forest and fynbos. Very kind guide, knew lot about the area. No other guests on the tour so i had a private tour!

Thank you so much for taking the time to write this review. We were so lucky the wind had died down before your trip as we had cancelled the day before! Hopefully you will visit our Valley again soon. Remember to allow some time next visit for a lesson and then we can do some cantering. Enjoy the summer!

We had a girls weekend to Tulbagh the weekend of the 26th of October. Since the beginning of my planning, Jo from Horseabout has been so helpful and even though plans changed quite a bit, she never changed. She was so friendly all the time.
When we got there, it was beyond what I could imagine. There were some ladies who had never ridden, but John gave us a quick lesson, we all learned a lot. We had the most amazing time, it was a lovely evening, the view was magnificent and the horseride unforgettable.
Thank you John and Jo for an amazing time, we will most definitely see you soon :-)
PS, we are coming for a full moon trail next time

This word is so overused, but if I had to find one word for the time we had with Horseabout, it can ONLY be awesome. We started by having a great picnic next to the dam. Then we went to the horses and after a quick "how to" session, got going. Knowledgeable Jo and John made the outride a pleasure. The horses were in excellent condition (considering that they live outside), they were well groomed, superbly mannered and just a joy to ride. No racing back to the yard at the end of the ride which a lot of novices have to content with on outrides (excellent schooling by John/Jo), and we did not want the day to end. And each horse has a history, mostly of neglect and abuse. It is such a pleasure to see these horses have a home which they obviously love, and owners who obviously love them, doing work that they all love. We were a group of girls that went out with them, and they took such care with the less experienced riders, that everyone went home afterwards with great memories having experienced a wonderful time with Jo, John and their horses. Cannot wait to get back and look at that view and mountains again.
