“Ideal hotel from which to explore the local picturesque wine region.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 6, 2010

We hired a car from Cape Town to drive up into the mountain area to the North East and visit the wine growing area around Tulbagh. The town lies in a bowl surrounded by the mountains and made a good base from which to visit the Cape Winelands. The hotel itself was small giving a feeling of exclusiveness, plus the staff were extremely friendly and very helpful. The room was very nicely decorated with personal touches as well all the usual needs provided. We ate in the hotel restaurant and chose to sit out on the patio under a tree decked with small lights, which was very romantic. I chose the Eland steak which was beautifully cooked and my wife had the ostrich which she also enjoyed. I honestly can think of no negatives from our stay and hope that we can one day return.

This hotel is located on the main street of the picturesque town of Tulbagh in the Western Cape of South Africa. The rooms are quiet and serene and fully air conditioned (which is a blessing in summer). My bedroom was massive, as was the ensuite, and decoration throughout the hotel is top notch.

The service at the hotel was superb, meals were enjoyed on the veranda underneath the shade, and the wine glass was kept topped up at all times!

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and highly recommend to all.

A very nice hotel with very friendly staff. Old fashioned athmosphere, however, still very modern. The food in the fine restaurant was super. The room was big with very comfortable beds and the bathroom was also big and very clean. The hotel was ver much worth the price. You felt very safe in the hotel. When the swimming pool is built we will give the hotel 5 stars.
We will for sure visit the hotel and the very nice village again.

Me and my wife visited the Tulbagh Hotel for a 1 night getaway. We took our 4 month old baby with us for the night. The staff were so helpfull with setting up the camping cot in the spacious room and made us feel so at home! We went for dinner at the hotel's restaurant and we had the best dinner in a long time! The Tulbagh Hotel is truley a wonderfull hotel to visit. The room was perfectly clean, service of the best standard and everything is so beautifull.

Thank you Tulbagh Hotel for making our stay something to remember. We will defenitely be back!

I recently stayed at the Tulbagh Hotel for a couple of nights. The hotel is under the new ownership of Ali McRobbie, a brit with a real eye for quality and detail. I was fortunate to stay in one of the stunning bedrooms in the annex of this hotel in the heart of old Tulbagh town cente. The rooms were beautifully appointed and the standard was that of european boutique hotels.

The quality of the food and wine available was excellent. A new chef was recently appointed and the corresponding updated menu was original. The courses I tried were all delicious.

The staff were friendly and welcoming and the whole hotel had a warm ambience. I cant wait to go back......

I was lucky enough to spend a night in this lovely hotel last week. The shame of it was that it was only one night-I wish I could have stayed longer. The hotel is a very warm inviting place with a lovely relaxed atmosphere. The room was beautiful, clean, quiet and with a bed to die for. We were lucky enough to sample the new summer menu for dinner and it was superb in every sense, accompanied by a selection of excellent local wines. I loved breakfast on the patio, drinks in the courtyard and relaxing in the big sofas by the fire. The staff were all friendly, efficient and welcoming and it would make an ideal base for touring the area. I look forward to returning again soon.
