“Rubbish computer system”
Reviewed January 7, 2014

What an amazing place. However the computer system could not come to terms with a party of 6 changing from cold room to warm room and charging to room bill. We spent hours at reception and trying to charge restaurant meals to rooms. We could have walked away without paying for several meals but for our honesty. The poor staff trying to cope with this. However there never seemed to be a manager on duty, a bit weird.
The quality of food was great but expensive.

One of the most breath taking experiences I have ever encountered. The "warm rooms" were more than I expected, they were great. The "cold rooms" were out of this world and an experience I will never forget. Being your own Musher was a thrill of a life time and should be on everyone's bucket list. The scenery, one can not describe it as there are no words to describe the beauty. The meals served at the restaurant were outstanding. Expensive yes, but who cares in this environment. What can I say about the staff. They were fantastic. I firmly believe we were treated better than their Royal Family. Would I go back, yes, at the drop of a hat just to experience all the things I could do in my 3 night/2 day stay. Would also highly recommend taking out your own dog sled. I will never forget the experience or the memories.

Room Tip: Relax and go with the flow in the "warm room" and experience the "cold room" for...

We stayed for 1 night at the IceHotel in December. It was definitely a great experience, but not exactly what we had expected. It is an amazing structure, but we were disappointed that the hotel actually wasn't completed when we were there and so there was a lot of building activity taking place and we could not visit the church, which we were not told when we booked. We expected that the hotel would be in a really peaceful natural environment, but it felt a bit more like we were in a building site. BUT once inside, it was fun and exciting.

Room Tip: We were in the cold rooms, it was amazing and a fun nights sleep.

Stayed here 3 nights in the warm rooms - great thing about the rooms is the warmth bc it so cold everywhere else. The beds are super soft and fantastic! The rooms are spacious BUT not at all fancy lacking some comforts such as: good towels, art on the walls, TV channels, mini-bar, etc. I spoke to people who slept in the ice rooms, and they were happy w the experience, not that it was a comfy nights sleep, but did it to say that they did!

ACTIVITIES
We went snowmobiling in search of huge northern lights (missed them bc it was snowing and cloudy). The tour is great and includes a quaint dinner in a tiny circular Lapland Cabin. Linda, our guide was FANTASTIC! Thank You Linda!
Reindeer and Sami Culture experience - this was our favorite thing bc you get to feed the reindeer, ride one on a sled around a track and learn all the AMAZING DETAILS about the Sami people, the last nomadic tribe still in existence. We ate smoked reindeer in a tent sitting on reindeer hides in front of a warm fire!

There are only 2 restaurants here and they fill up fast so be sure to reserve in advance if u plan to eat!

ICEHOTEL - the art and ice sculptures are absolutely OUT OF THIS WORLD! Thank You to all of the great artists for sharing your visions!

ICEBAR - literally COOL! the lighting and art combines to create a 1 of a kind ICEBAR! The drinks, all delicious and created to match one of the Luxury Art Suites are served in ice glasses! Thank You Johan for being a fantastic MIXOLOGIST! U made our stay even better!

GO AT LEAST ONE NIGHT IN YOUR LIFE!!!! it's really a fabulous idea and a trip to remember for a LIFETIME!!!!

I had big expectations for this trip and my conclusion is that I won't regret the investment and I will always remember this trip as a crazy and fun experience. I do recommend it to do it. Beware that for the prize paid, you will get back a great experience but no luxury.
You will get a super warm sleeping bag to sleep at night, so don't worry, you won't be cold; you'll sleep in it with your thermic underweat and I recommend you to take your winter hat with you.
You'll be provided with a winter suit, mittens and boots that are designed for extreme cold temperatures, so you won't be cold outdoors.
To leave your stuff before the cold night inside a locker and to change your clothes in a common area is a bit of a hassle and not confortable, but you forget the day after when you switch to the warm room.
If it wasn't for the above and the limited food options I would have given a better rating. What the hotel should improve is the transfer time between the cold and warm hotel - too many hours and too few to do.
Don't hesitate, do it, you won't regret.

We went here on the second last day of last year for a daytime visit.
We did not pay the stupidly expensive entrance ticket to the rather small Ice Hotel but we did wonder around in the outside area and had a visit to the chapel and the backside workshops where they build the hotel.
The souvenir shop is great, 1/3 of the prices at the airport - much recommended.

Room Tip: Stay elsewhere or one night only...

Did 4 hour snowmobile tour - very tiring they are quite hard to steer especially in the dark but the trips through the woods were amazing. One of our group went off piste and flipped his machine so do take care!! Did 4 hour husky tour - brilliant but beware the flying poo as the dogs don't stop to squat!! Spent one night in warm room and one night on ice at the hotel. It wasn't as cold as I thought and the sleeping bags were very warm. Ice hotel is incredible. I have some wonderful photos. Kiruna was so pretty over Christmas this definitely was the best time to go. A fabulous adventure - we had so much fun. Would highly recommend and the kids had a wonderful time too.

Room Tip: We had an ordinary Kamos room and an ordinary ice room - they were fine. Spend more if you want a s...
