read all the reviews both good and bad before we went, naturally you want to believe the good one's and ignore the bad. wish i'd paid more attention to the bad one's. dont get me wrong i've stayed in worse but only just. the food was terrible, just about fit for human consumption, the rooms were poor with a lot of them having really awful views, although they are cleaned every day, (cant fault that). on the positive side, the drinks had not been tampered with as i'd read before somewhere. the pool was big and deep with loads of loungers, staff were great and freindly.........the most dissapointing thing about the holiday for me was dassia itself, advertises a livley heaving resort, this is not the case. i've stayed in 'quiet' resorts that have more life in them. and as for ipsos just down the road imagine tumbleweeds. maybe went too early in the season (last week of may). wont ever be going back though to check

Room Tip: could do better

This hotel does not deseve the few bad comments, just back and had the most relaxing time, the hotel staff were excellent, the food was very good and considering they had to cater for lots of nationalities we thought the food was great! the dinning room was wonderful and pool was lovely with lots of sun-loungers, the rooms may require updating but had everthing you require, bar staff were excellent, if you want a relaxing holiday and not a wild time this is the hotel for you!!!

We were booked into the Magna Graecia having booked through teletext holidays. We were not sure what to expect having read the mixed reviews, but in our experience, nowhere will please everybody.
If you want unfettered luxury, then the Magna Graecia is not for you, but if you want a clean hotel to use as a base for seeing Corfu, then we would wholeheartedly recommend it.
It was almost empty when we arrived on 2nd MaYWhen we arrived on 2nd May, but gradually became busier as the week went by. We were booked into a double room, which I tried to verify by email, but when we arrived, we were allocated a twin room. We asked for a change, and this was actioned within 15 minutes by friendly, courteous and helpful staff.
The original twin, and the subsequent double, were very similar, so having seen two rooms, I feel qualified to comment. The rooms are basic in many respects, but that was not a problem. The bed was comfortable - hard, but a good night's sleep. Every room has a balcony with table and chairs. The bedroom furniture is old and tired, but we were not expecting luxury. The rooms are dimly lit, but spacious and impeccably clean, made up well every day. On a couple of days we took a towel out with us in case we went swimming - towels were replaced as normal, and nothing was said. Yes, we left the towels at the end of our stay! :-)
The bathroom could have been better - no plug in the bath and a leaking plug in the basin so when I had a shave I had to leave the tap running slowly throughout, but that wasn't really a problem either.
The TV provided received no English channels - until they seemed to change the satellite or something half way through our stay and then I re-tuned the TV again and managed to get CNN. Big deal!! But then we went to explore Corfu - we can watch telly at home, so again it wasn't a problem.
The staff, as I referred to earlier, were friendly and couteous, without exception. The grounds are well maintained, and of a morning, you could see cleaners, a pool cleaner and groundsmen busy doing their jobs. We didn't use the pools, but the main one outside the front of the hotel was impeccably clean and good sized.
The restaurant is large, airy and like everywhere else in the hotel, very clean and well maintained. The food was nice too - occasionally a little bland, but then we weren't in the Hilton. There was excellent choice at breakfast and dinner (we didn't choose the all inclusive option). If we had one criticism, it was that the food at dinner could have been labelled. It was on a couple of days, but was not consistent. The house wine was perfectly palatable too.
The bar was reasonably priced - a bit more expensive than most of the tavernas, but not as expensive as one couple who were staying at another hotel told us theirs was. Bar staff, like their colleagues, were also extremely friendly and helpful. ONe night the hotel manager bought us a drink via the barman, and on another evening, the restaurent manager sent over a carafe of wine - it may have helped that we bought one every evening at dinner :-)
We wouldn't recommend the all inclusive option, because psychologically you then feel tied to the hotel/resort, and there are so many beautiful places in Corfu as we found, it was lovely to explore the island properly in a hire car.
As for the location, there isn't a lot in Dassia - well, there wasn't for us anyway. There are restaurants which we didn't need or want, and a few bars and touristy type shops, but as base from which to get around, it's excellent - 5 or 6 miles north of Corfu town and therefore quite centrally located.
All in all, we loved Corfu, were perfectly happy with the hotel despite its very few flaws, and at the price we paid for 2 half-board, it was absolutely excellent value for money.

Room Tip: Ask at Reception, and if they can help, they will.

I think this hotel is misunderstood...at the end of the day, you get what you pay for and this is a cheap and cheerful hotel. The pool is great - big and clean, the food very bland, the service lovely and very friendly, the rooms old and basic but clean and adequate. There is a bus stop right outside the entrance, a few shops and bars within walking distance. The beach is across the road and easy to get to. Overall, it's definitely not the best hotel, but if you are looking for somewhere cheap with friendly service and want to hop on a bus or rent a car to explore the island, it will do just fine.

We were originally booked into another hotel but due to it being the end of season they had decided to close early and so we were moved to Magna Graecia. We were very pleased with the hotel after reading some not too great reviews on it. The hotel and the room we were in was spacious and clean. It was very quiet with not many people about but this did not mean there was any less effort on behalf of the staff. Our room was cleaned everyday and the restaurant, reception and bar staff were friendly and welcoming. The food was lovely with a lot of choice, it was not labelled but it was not hard to work out what was being served! There was always a selection of fresh salad and bread alongside the hot food and desert. The chef was friendly and we heard him explaining about the food to someone so if in doubt ask! The drinks were great with very generous measures, enjoy some of the kumquat liquor, very sweet but lovely. The pool was a little cold but I saw it being cleaned every morning. The beach is not far from the hotel and you can get the bus into corfu town right outside,

All in all we had a lovely holiday, was very quiet because of close down but I can imagine this being a great lively place with a lot of atmosphere in high season. A great base to explore Corfu with stunning views and comfortable enough to just chill out at the hotel by the pool, at the bar etc. The only downside we thought was the lack of entertainment at night but really it was a small gripe as we didn't expect them to put on something for a few people! Would definitely reccommend.

My partner and I have just returned from a weeks stay (16th-23rd Oct 2010) in the Magna Graecia Hotel, and guess what? WE LOVED IT!
The Hotel, Pools and grounds were cleaned daily and cleanliness in general was kept too a high standard.
Our room was adequate, with twin beds, En-suite bathroom, fridge, TV and balcony which had stunning views accross the bay. The furniture was a bit dated, but did not affect our enjoyment one bit. Bedding, towels and room were cleaned daily.
The whole hotel has a nautical theme, with lots of wood panelling and ships artifacts which maybe why people have said "Its dark" or "Its Brown", we found it to be very Corfuian, which, seeing as we were in Corfu, was quite apt! We would describe it as GRAND!
All the Staff and Management in the hotel were friendly, corteous and very helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. A couple we met asked to be moved to the floor above to get a better view above the trees, there was no problem at all and they moved thier belongings at thier own leisure. On our last day we were allowed to keep our room, at no extra charge, untill we left at 20.45. This may not occur in high season though, due to changeover etc.
The food was excellent with a wide choice of hot dishes, salad bar, soup, sweets, soft drinks, beer, wine. The Chef came out almost every meal to check on the food and was very approchable, infomative and open to ideas. Please dont expect Full english breakfasts or chips and burgers for every meal! You are in Corfu!!!! The food is very good quality from around the world. We saw the butchers van arrive daily and if sat around the pool you will see a lady go to the local grocers for the fresh fruit, veg and salad daily.
The All-inclusive bar was open 10.30am-11.00pm. The Beer was very good and NOT watered down as someone wrote! It is from a sealed pressurised cask so i dont know how they thought that was possible? I can recommend the Ouzo, and my girlfriend can definately recommend the Vodka!
All-in-all a very good hotel, excellent service and food. Just a little dated.

We would DEFINATELY RECOMMEND this hotel.

We have just arrived back from this hotel and dont normally bother with reviews but just wanted to tell everyone what a wonderful time we all had there.
The food was lovely, loads of choice, drinks were not watered down at all.
The staff are fantastic, nothing is too much trouble for them.
The hotel is very clean, rooms were small but you dont go on holiday to stay in your room do you?
A lot of reviews have said you get what you pay for, well thats certainly not true, we did not pay alot for our stay and we drank and ate like kings for a week, the children loved the food too, If you want chips and full english breakfast, do yourself a favour and go back to Skegvegas, lots of delicious traditional Greece fare, lots of salads and pastas.
We hardly ventured out of the hotel all week just chilled out and had fun as a family.
