Duni Royal Marina Beach

The resort is part of a bigger complex consisting of 5 hotels. It is located south of Sozopol overlooking a beautiful bay and great beach with sand dunes. The hotel and its amenities are spotless. The only really complaint we had was the food, which was average at best. You can only book AI, and they serve cheap drinks (local alcoholics only) and the same food every day. If you do not mind to eat salad, burgers, turkey, fries and pasta every day, the Duni Royal complex is a good choice, especially when you travel with kids as they offer a mini club, good shows in the evening. However, if you like good food and a more personal atmosphere we would recommend the Royal Palace Helena Sands in Sunny Beach.

Some things we did not like: Minigolf and fitness centre cost extra and the spa is rather expensive, compared to other hotels. WiFi is only available in the lobby and on the terracce and costs extra as well. Surprisingly enough, the sea water was not always of the best quality (it seemed) with lots of algae.

Excursion trips: Sozopol (after breakfast, before the other tourists arrive; the coast further south)!

Room Tip: The rooms with sea view get morning sun, whereas the rooms to the back get afternoon sun. However, t...

I was there in july 2011 with my husband and my little girl(4year old) and another 3 families with children. We had a relaxing holiday, our children enjoyed the pools, the sand, the food, the entertainment in the evening, everything.
We spent there 10 days. .
We had junior suite, it was cleaned daily.
Food was good, was variety of the food and a lot of salads, very good salads. In the restaurants was clean. Each evening had a different theme- italian, turkish, ...; there was specific food of these countries.
The entire resort was very nice and clean.
This is a very good place to go with your children and spend a relaxing and nice holiday.

Room Tip: Rooms faceing the parking were more quiet

My wife and I really enjoyed out hotel. It was spotlessly clean. The food was excellent and plentiful and the pool and beach were great.
The staff were friendly and helpful but regardless what you may hear very few speak English. Our rep told us that Bulgarians naturally don't smile. I don't know how sure I am as to the varasity of that statement but it certainly was our experience.
I was a little peeved at having to pay £40 for the hoire of my room safe. I reckon that it must have paid for itself many, many times over.
If you want an indulgent, relaxing holiday then this is the place for you. However as it is 6 miles/9K from the nearest town and there is no public transport then it's a £20 round trip in the taxi.
Don't walk to the pretty fishing village you see in the distance. Firstly its not a pretty fishing village (time share villas) and the sand it virtually unwalkable as your feet constanmtly sink into the fine powder sand. This is great by the way when you are actually on the beach.
If you get the chance take a trip to istabul. Very, very tiring but well worth it.

My boyfriend and I travelled to Duni in August of this year and spent a week here. The hotel is set within a relatively untouched area of Bulgaria which is lovely and quiet. The hotel itself is extremely clean, there are always people around cleaning up and so always looks spotless! The pools were lovely with plenty of sun beds and we would definitely recommend getting in the pool and taking part in the activities! We would put our towels down early to ensure we got a good space and never had any issues but they do go quickly. We chose to go around the pool but the is also the option of the beach which was beutiful but sand w very hot! There are plenty of lovely bars and seating areas including having the option to sit inside or outside for meals.

On arrival the staff on reception weren't the friendliest and at night they don't speak great English. On the most part staff could speak acceptable English but are very strict with their rules! However the staff were helpful but can seem rude in terms of the English manner we sometimes expect! Also, due to the varying nationalities visiting the hotel we don't share the same values. People will push into the queues at meal times and at the bar!

The food wasn't typical English for example the cooked breakfast had small roast potatoes instead of hash browns and shredded ham instead of bacon. The pancakes served at breakfast are spoken about alot and they didn't disappoint! They served great quality meats that were cooked well. I was a little dubious about the quality of the meat as it was cooked in such large batches but it was always lovely. The food varies from night to night but there is always one English thing on the menu; chips! There was fresh cheeses, bread, salad and fruit every night. There was a selection of puddings too. Also during the day there is a sandwich bar which serves from midmorning until late evening. It is just a trolley but they are delicious!

The soft drinks were served in small plastic cups which got quite annoying. There wasnt any drink dispensers and queues could get quite long so getting numerous drinks was the best thing to do. The cocktails were lovely and we sent most evening on the beautiful bar outside sipping on them. One thing I would mention is that women definitely get served before the men regardless of the waiting time.

In the evening the resort holds a show in the auditorium which was worth going to but not to everyone's taste. I would advice getting there early because people do reserve seats with any means, for example leaves or an apple from dinner! The seats aren't the most comfortable either but fine for the length of the show!

On our stay we also visited the town Sozopol which was worth going to if you can get a day trip. The shopping in Bourgas wasn't up to much so would skip that as it has shops such as M&S and Zara which we have at home. There are watersports available on the beach but they were very expensive, 60lev for 10 minutes of the jet ski.

Overall, we had an amazing holiday and didn't want to come home! I would recommend this hotel to anyone, it's great value for money.

We (two adults and one fifteen year old) really enjoyed our stay at the Marina Beach Hotel. Set in a beautiful location situated right on the beach, with many excellent facilities, lovely food and friendly staff - it was a wonderful holiday.

We stayed at the Marina Beach hotel but we could roam around all of the resort (apart from the Marina Royal Palace). We found the hotel to have attracted plenty of nationalities from all over the world – I heard Americans, English, Russian, German, Spanish, Italian, and French from just some of the people. It may have been the time we went (8th August – 22nd August) but, after reading some of the reviews, I was expecting the resort to be teaming with rude Russians.

Our room was very nice and comfortable. The bedroom and the bathroom were cleaned daily and the beds were made with fancy shapes made out of the top sheet, which looked really nice. The view from the window of the hotel’s car park wasn’t exactly beautiful, but you don’t really need anything special as you’ll be spending the majority of your time outside anyway. The hotel in general was very clean also.

The quality and variety of the food certainly exceeded our expectations. With one of us on the Atkins diet (low carb foods) and another one a vegan (no animal products - meat, milk, eggs, honey etc...), we did think that the availability of food for us would be limited. However there was a large range in the buffet for us all to choose from and for each meal there were always completely different options as well as the usual favourites such as chips, pasta, pizza etc... The only fault with the food was we found the chips in the main restaurants were never really fresh and quite chewy. Each evening had its own theme that various dishes were based around (but there were always some favourites available- whatever the theme) such as Bulgarian night, Italian night etc... There were slightly different options at the restaurants at the other hotels which we went to when we wanted a change of scenery and restaurant. There were two a la carte restaurants that were free to go to once a week (as look as you book 24 hours before) also which were definitely worth going to.

The entertainment was exceptional and the team very carefully selected for their talents – such as good dancers and break-dancers. All of them were extremely friendly and made our holiday. Every day there were hundreds of activities for us to participate in – shuffleboard, cocktail games, fitness classes, archery, darts etc.... Every night (on a 2 week rota) they had a different show in the amphitheatre such as Life is a Cabaret, Rock and Roll Show etc... which were definitely a lot better than we were expecting and were really professional.

We went on one day trip during our stay to the nearest town called Sozopol, which was lovely – it gave us an idea of the culture of Bulgaria and gave us an opportunity to take loads of photos. Although it wasn’t an organised trip (which there are plenty of depending who you travelled with), we simply asked the staff at the reception desk about taxis and they helpfully provided us with all the information that we needed and they called up a taxi for us. We arranged with the driver when we would like to be picked up and he was there right on time at the end of our day out.

To sum up, this was the best holiday we’ve had in a long time and we really would recommend going there. The staff are polite and friendly and there was everything you needed on site and well worth the money.

Room Tip: If you're not bothered about the view from your room then there's no need to specify. But I...

on arrival at 2 am we were allocated our room, having asked for a quiet room we were given a room above reception with the door over the bar area,on opening the patio doors we found thet the outlet for the air conditioning was just outside,we asked to change and were told to come back at 8 am.after alot of disagreement we were offered another room this time it was above the service entrance but at least had a view this was also unacceptable and were offered an alternative for 4 days time we looked at the position of this room but this was no better so decided to stay where we were even though we were woken at 6.30 every morning by the dustbin men .the room itself was very good but pity it was in the wrong position.the pool area was very good with plenty of sunbeds and always cleaned as was the beach.the entertainment team was very good wiyh plenty going on and the evening shows were excellent.the food was very hit and miss with somedays ok but other days poor.the waitresses were very good and bar staff ok sometimes.this is a great hotel if you have a room with a pool view but is let down by the standard rooms which are noisy and the food quality
