“Tough walk but so worth it”
Reviewed September 9, 2012

Visited Briksdal on a cruise ship coach tour which took in the stunning Olden valley before dropping us off at the car park for the glacier. The glacier is a 45 minute walk, through beautiful landscape, most of which is on an incline. There are troll cars available to drive most of the way for additional cost but the walk really adds to the sense of achievement and can be done by pretty much anyone except the elderly or infirm, you just might need longer if unused to exercise. We took about 50 mins, including photo stops.

The views along the walk are awesome and do include crossing a bridge past a torrential river drop. We were pretty much instantly soaked but dried out along the walk. Definitely bring a waterproof jacket.

The glacier itself is a beautiful sight, you can just about see the icefield above and the glacier arm coming down the mountain. Slope towards you where it connects to a large glacial lake. The mountains surrounding you are streaming with water and waterfalls. It is a truly emotional experience to be there and, if the wheat her is nicer, you could stay and look for hours. We were fairly wet and windswept.

Before you leave add a stone to one of the many columns of rocks and pebbles that previous visitors have left, or add a new one of your own.

“Family visit when cruising the fjords”
Reviewed September 3, 2012

Went on a P&O organised trip from the Oceana in Olden. After a drive of about 30/40 minutes through stunning countryside we were dropped off at a cafe/shop and had walk of about 45 minutes to the Briksdal Glacier. Spectacular views - waterfalls, raging rivers, mountains, rocks, goats. A real must see!

If you're cruiseing you can book a taxi or tour from the dock you don't need to book with the cruise line. However this is an experience not to be missed. At the visitor centre there are a couple of cafe which serve great cake. Also a gift shop. If you are not mobile you can buy a ticket to travel closer to the glacier by electric car. For the fitter the walk is worth it. The path passes near to a waterfall so be prepared for some spray. We were so lucky when we visited as the weather was clear if dull and we were there when the glacier calved. There is a small lake at the foot of the glacier and there are inflatable boat trips. This was an option on our tour but I dont think you get much closer to the glacier than we did on foot by paying the extra for the boat.

“Excellent trip to olden and oldedalen”
Reviewed August 19, 2012

We had a recent trip to Norway and we spend a decent amount of time at Briksdal Galcier. It is beautiful on a sunny day. We were staying at a very nice location very near to the Glacier. Although the place is not well advertised on the web and its way better than the neighbouring accomodations that you can get around Stryn., Its called "Myklebust Hytter", webpage http://home.online.no/~jenmyk/index.cfm . This place makes sense since its only 2 km from the glacier. We used the troll car to go the glacier then it was a walk for 20 minutes to the foot of the glacier. There are glacier walks available which needs to be booked earlier. Troll car trip is nice it goes over the waterfall and the winding road. You need to book for troll car in advance its often quite crowded.
There is a nice cafe, resturant at briksdal Glacier. Also remmeber the souvinier shop there is one of the best we saw in and around Stryn, there is another similar souvinier shop at Olden/Leon which is also quite good. Going to the Glacier can easily be a full day activity if you want to spend some time over there, there are nice places to sit and relax. They also show how the glacier has receded in last 200 years and also certain erosion due to ice age glaciers. We were lucky to see a small avalanche also while we were coming back., Car parking is 50 NOK for the day. There are buses running from stryn to take you to the glacier as well

“A must - ignore those who complain about the shrinking glacier”
Reviewed August 6, 2012

If you are travelling in this part of Norway, then I would highly recommend a visit. Admittedly, it used to be even more spectacular when the glacier was further down but that being said, the walk up/down to the glacier is worth the trip alone for the nature, scenery and views. For those unable to walk (it's not that difficult anyway), they have these new "Trollcars" to transport you up and down which seem very efficient...but you miss out on the walk which would be a shame.
