Unique setting

We stayed for two nights in the cabin which is about 15 minutes fron the Fjellstue (where they have some rooms). If possible get the cabin! It has a fantastic location with views on every side: two glaciers, a waterfall and Olden valley.
Actually, the cabin is very close to a campground of another owner (where they also have cabins, but they are not on the internet as far as I know). The only 'downside' of the cabin (if you can call it that) for some people, could be that it is 45 minutes walking to the Briksdalsbreen, and not 30 as from the Fjellstue. But of course that is not a problem when you are by car (we were by bus). Before I forget it: the cabin itself is very good and well equiped. Not expensive by Norwegian standards either.

However, I think that it was during my three months stay in Norway (I worked there for 3 months) the most magical place I have been to (Finse would be a very good second).

Room Tip: take the cabin!

How could you not love being at the end of a mountain pass with a waterfall on one side and a glacier on the other. During the day, lots of people but at night very quiet and peaceful. Good value, basic accomodations. Drive up and back off the main road were awesome. Glad we made the trip.

The end of the glacier road, allowing for an early start to visiting the glacier (we didthe glacier safari on an inflatbale boat, which was fun). Excellent value for Norway - large rooms and bathrooms, very clean but basic. No phone or TV. Free internet in cafeteria. Basic breakfast (by Norwegian standards). Call ahead if you are coming late.

Other places were booked but saw this mentioned in a travel book. Found comments to be fairly accurate with it being mainly a restaurant at the end of the road from Olden catering to tourists to the Briksdal glacier. So I already wasn't going in expecting 5-star accomodations. Price was right and location perfect for hikes to explore the Jostedal glacier area. You check in at the restaurant. There are 6 rooms behind it down a ramp under the souvenir shop that are the "hotel" rooms (so you do get covered parking). Newer, fairly big and clean rooms with good size bathrooms. Don't expect room service and also no TV or phone. Cafeteria-style restaurant and dinners were good with reasonable NO prices (will still seem expensive to US-tourists). Simple European-style breakfast was included. Had the place to myself being the only guest staying there. Only negative was restaurant closing at 5pm being near end-season (open May-Sep), but think it's open later like until 9pm during their high-season.

We rented a car in Bergen and drove to Briksdal glacier, which was a beautiful drive. We stayed in a lovely cabin at the Briksdalsbre Fjellstove called Kvilsbu which had views of the fjord from the front porch, a waterfall behind it and the glacier to the right. It was so amazing and cute.( http://www.briksdalsbre.no ) We only stayed there one night, but I would recommend at least two nights, so you can hike or ride up to the glacier and then have time to enjoy the cabin. There is also a lodge, restaurant and nice gift shop.
