“Relaxing Weekend”
Reviewed March 28, 2012

Travelled with my wife one weekend and had an enjoyable time. Stayed in a self-catering unit that met our basic needs, room included king size bed, shower, living room, patio and small kitchen which includes all cutlery. Some units have their own braai facilities though there are also numerous communal braai facilities. Had a beautiful view of the coast from our unit - unfortunately not all units come with that view. Check-in was easy with minimal fuss, beautiful views of the coast - hardly saw anybody actually swim there as the waves looked quite rough but there are quite a number of outdoor pools as well as an indoor pool. Activities include tennis courts - squash court, boat rides, small casino, spa and gym. Pick n Pay a well known supermarket chain is located about 2km from the resort though the resort does have its own supermarket as well as some restaurants in the vicinity. If you looking for a place to unwind for a few days this is the place to be as we went off-peak, avoid peak times though as it can get quite pricey and might be a bit crowded.Best to travel with own car as resort is +- 140km from Cape Town.

We've been coming to this resort over the past few years and generally have had good experiences. The location is wonderful for a quite weekend getaway on the ocean. The unit is a well equipped self catering unit. The resort facilities and activities have grown over the years. Amongst the facilities & activities we enjoyed was the resort spa and a yacht cruise over the beautiful Langebaan Lagoon.

We stayed with 8 adults in the 3 bedroom/8 sleeper unit. Although the unit was spacious you could hardly call the couches in the lounge area "sleeper couches". Furthermore, no linen was provided for in the unit for these "sleeper couches".

Our unit was one which was hanging over the sea, which provided for excellent views. This was however cancelled out by the constant activity at the pool bar, with bingo numbers being called out over a loud sound system. Not much chance of a peaceful afternoon nap or quiet read on the balcony.

Despite the negatives, I would still recommend this resort as a good weekend getaway and would return there myself.

Over the past few years, this establishment has grown from strength to strength. From a dilapidated joint to a excellent weekend or vacation retreat. The overall experience was good but I found the booking system to be archaic. In this day and age hotels need to understand, and specifically in South Africa, no customer is and should be happy to hand out credit card details to every tom, dick and harry that answers the phone. I had two bad experiences thus far and still dealing it months down the line. The only other means of securing a booking is EFT payments, and you need to settle the entire amount before arrival.
There are some awesome restaurants in the area as well as on the premises as well as a 18 hole golf course highly recommended and on international standard.
Positives : everything in walking distance, safe and secure, very clean and friendly staff.
negatives : admin - i did not appreciate a phone call at 9.30 reminding me that 10 am is my check out time ( after a late checkout was arranged ) and breakfast vouchers were an issue when its a couple and only one person gets a voucher.
Overall - great experience and recommended.

Room Tip: When making reservations, ensure you book as far away possible from the restaurant and swimming pool...

It sure is not all inclusive - but if you want really inexpensive fun - with the most gorgeous ocean views, Mykanos is the place for you. It is more than a suite resort, with one, two or three bedrooms, livingroom, kitchen patio.... overlooking pool and ocean. Located on the quiet West Coast of South Africa amidst the world famous and beautiful wild flowers. Just a couple miles from the Langebaan Lagoon Reserve - which holds the ancient history of Africa.
At Mykanos, you get more than you pay for - including cleanliness, service and friendly staff.
We will be back soon.

Room Tip: Try the authentic Boesmanland for a taste of South African food and music.

We have owned timesharing here since before it was even completed (+/- 25 years) and our unit has 3 bedrooms & 2 bathrooms with an open plan, well equiped kitchen/dining room/lounge and 3 verandahs (one which has a BBQ). It is on the 2nd floor and doesn't have a lift but we "hang" over the sea. It is fantastic. Not many places in the world can one have this position. When lying in bed the sea is below us and it feels as is we are on a ship!
The resort is being painted at the moment (almost complete) so looks neat and tidy and the gardens are beautiful.
The units themselves were redone a couple of years' ago and are neat and tidy. We found the tables outside had not been cleaned but phoned housekeeping and it was sorted out immediately.

The atmosphere was more conducive to family vacation and the rooms on the second floor had no lift or porters to help.. found carrying laptop and luggage up 3 flights of stairs by yourself was not a good start.

The living quarters was average, bathroom very small and squashed and the single bed and flat pillows very very uncomfortable - there was no airconditioning :(

Very old school laid back decor and NO privacy if you opened the curtains as there was no lining ... people can see right into your unit..

Dinner was rather noisy as the 1 man band was too loud and we were in the corner table furthest from the stage.. ala carte was limited choice for vegetarians and nothing halaal.

Breakfast was less than average [a set menu], no buffet or ala carte but set plate limited to egg, bacon, sausage and beans - no fruit, no yoghurt, no cereals, No choice...for a vegetarian or a health nut that is an EPIC FAIL!!

I was there for a conference so I don't know if the food, menu and service quality was that way because of the conference package but to me the resturant had very limited menu options.

if you book 3 star self-catering chalets then expect average service and lodgings, one cannot complain (PS I did not do the bookings)

Honestly I really expected much more from all the hype and advertisements and was sorely sorely disappointed...

on a positive note - seafood pasta lunch and line fish dinner was lovely, setting outside for lunch and afternoon drinks was at the marina really really beautiful and the general location is breathtaking....

Would I stay there again for a different trip on a personal level = YES - i suppose I would but I will know what to expect next time round..

So far we have had to call the cleaning staff twice and call for a TV guide and now the plugs have all tripped towards the end of our movie!
