This is truly like stepping back in time. Do you think that they built this massive structure hundreds of years ago. Quite amazing to see. Great tour, great very knowledgeable tour guides. You will leave here knowing much more about castles and the origins of this region.

Fun self-guided tour (free entree with Swiss Travel Pass). From Montreux train station it was a simple thing to exit and descend stairs down to the street level. Straight across the street toward Lac Leman and just to the right was a small bus stand that takes about 10 stops to reach the Chateau. Note: bus stop is just past the Chateau and there are apparently 2 entrances (one under a covered wooden bridge over the train tracks which I used) and one past the bus stop which comes up along the lake. There is/was construction underway which may restrict/redirect access temporarily. I entered over the covered bridge and walked past a hard-working construction crew that didn’t seem overly perturbed by my walking by their concrete pouring and earth-moving efforts, The payment kiosk located down at the entrance bridge of the keep proper will charge you (tip: always show any travel passes you have for all available discounts!). Audio guides can be purchased at an added cost there as well. If you have toured other medieval castles then you will appreciate this rather pleasant fortification with its defensive arrow-slit windows and ramparts. Interior rooms display a multitude of items such as weaponry, cookery, great hall table furnishings, many decorated storage chests, and a Lordly bedroom suite with commode chair next to the bed. (Clean, free restrooms provided inside the chateau—commode chair use not permitted)! Well worth spending an hour or two. Beautiful views of the lake and mountains though old leaded glass paned windows or from ramparts above. (*Also accessible by ferry dock just East of the Chateau). To return to Montreux via bus use the stop which is located across the street and a short walk to your right (assuming you exit via the covered wooden bridge above the train tracks). *Gift shop inside offers specialty wines bottled for the Chateau in the nearby village. Didn’t try this trip, but I hope to on my next visit!

Located 10 minutes ride on trolley-bus from Montreux.
The place has an excellent audio-guide. This guides takes you from place to place step by step. Easy navigation. Interesting story tale about the past of this place and history of Switzerland.

It's a beautiful castle with the backdrop of Geneva Lake and the surrounding mountain. We took a bus from Montreux station (only a few bus stops away). We arrived at 4pm which is the last entry as the castle closes at 5pm.

The inside of the castle is much bigger than it looks with many points which specific explanation and history. We spent about 1 hr and did not go through all the exhibit points. If you love medieval history, you will find this very interesting.

Entrance is free with Swiss Travel Pass and discounted (I believe 50%) with Montreux Travel Card.
