“Perfect for the money..”
Reviewed June 18, 2008

Stayed here on a special deal - £69 for 2 nights including breakfast! Stunning grounds, friendly reception and great facilities (pool, gym, croquet, bar). Room was comfortable, functional and clean - had all the basics - TV, iron, Tea and Coffee and most importantly, a fan. It was very warm out and the room had caught the sun so became stuffy (no aircon at these prices). But at least they had the thought to put a fan in the room.

Breakfast was plentiful and offered a good choice and I found all the staff very professional (it is a big chain Conference centre after all).

If, like me, you are looking just for overnight accomodation, then with such a deal, it really is worth it..

Checked in all fine, got a little lost wandering round trying to find our room.
Arrived at the room in the main block and had trouble getting the door to unlock…key wiggling required.
Got in to the room hung up my party dress and put my coat back on, the room was freezing!
Me and Boyf went back to reception to be told the heating comes on at 6pm each evening, we decided this was not too much of an issue as we would not be back in the room until after this.
There is no room service, we asked at reception where we could get food, and were told the bar would service us. We went down to the ground floor bar (really confusing hotel layout, we dithered on directions to take and just guessed) to get something to eat and watch the football before attending an evening wedding reception.

The bar was empty we ordered straight away and seemed to confuse the single member of staff serving as we asked for food. After several minutes of scrabbling round and asking someone out the back for the menu, we ordered.
The woman serving had no change, luckily we were staying in the bar area for the football. The TV was not on so we asked if it could be turned on, again several minutes of scrabbling and the TV was on.
Food arrived, we had ordered sandwiches (beef, mine was mostly gristle) with crisps (less than half a pack each arranged on the plate) and salad (rotten, sweaty and mostly brown).
Another round of drinks later and there was still no change, last drinks to be taken now out of what they owed us, when the change came they had tried to charge us for an extra drink.

Later once changed, back to the bar for the wedding reception. Now two members of staff serving (bear in mind over 300 hundred people are due to arrive).
There were only two members of staff through the wedding reception, when meant it was five deep to get to the bar, then once we had gotten to the bar quite early in the night they ran out of bottled beer, then shortly followed by draught beer.
We switched to wine by the bottle, which saved us a job of trying to get to the bar every 20 minutes, as still five deep at the bar.

Managed to get back in to the room some key wiggling required. Room not freezing but still quite cool. Forgot about the fact that the bathroom was tiling and a big shock in the morning, felt like walking on ice. Also noticed that the bed was on wheels and the slightest brush next to it moved it.

The things that redeemed the hotel was the stunning scenery and décor for the wedding photos, the space provided for the wedding party, the fact that I was surrounded by the people from the wedding having such a good time.
The breakfast was relaxed and your normal run of the mill food, some queuing required.

Just in case your wondering about the staff thing the next morning I had a conversation with a lady who was not part of the wedding, it seemed there was only one member of staff in the restaurant upstairs for the evening.

The general area and site looked beautiful but I had some concerns about what the accommodation would be like as it was a conference centre not a hotel and I'd read the reports here. I had been in the area a week before the planned visit and asked to see a room. The one I was shown was not very impressive - a bit shabby and rather small with only a bedside table and light for one - one side of the bed was pushed up against the wall.. However the venue matched our needs - an opportunity for us and ours sons and their partners and our baby granddaughter to get together for a celebration.
No cot could be provided so we had to take a travel one which was a bit of a nuisance.

On arrival we were absolutely delighted to have been upgraded to rooms in the main building just above the swimming pool.. These were modernised with very new well-equipped bathrooms.

The swimming pool was brilliant - we used it 3 times in the 22 hours we were there.

Breakfast buffet was great and included a good fresh fruit salad.

Can't comment on the other meals as we ate out.

The nearest free coffee station (included biscuits and fresh fruit)was a long way from our rooms but worth the trek! There was also a kettle in the room.

Staff were all friendly and helpful.

If you go have a look at the library and the views from it. Stunning!

Only complaint was the noise from some members of a wedding party who had rooms near ours. They were talking and calling to each other and banging on doors until 2 in the morning.

We stayed at Latimer for a wedding this summer. The location and the grounds are truly stunning. However, it really IS a conference centre more than a hotel.

It is an old manor house which has been extended to include conference facilities. We found the accommodation to be very small and cramped and the breakfast was decidedly average and involved walking out of the hotel and across the car park to one of the other conference buildings (not great if it had been raining!).

The hotel itself is a bit of a maze and I think would cause problems for the less mobile. The leisure/gym facilities were also average and quite limited for such a hotel.

Fine if you had to stay there, say for a wedding (or a conference) as we did, but I wouldn't go out of your way to stay there otherwise.

I have been going to Latimer for the past 4/5 years. As soon as I drive up to the house my stresses of the day just disappear!
Latimer is an old manor house which has bee extended to a stunning conference centre. The accommodation is spotless, the food is very good and the leisure facilities suit all. There are many good local walks and an interesting church next to the grounds.
If I have to find fault it is that last year all the bar furniture was replaced with high tables and bar stools- as I am already vertically challenged I nearly fell off before my alcohol consumption!
But go and just enjoy!
