We have very enjoyable visit, room was nice, a lovely swimming pool, small gym.

The only snag not enough sockets but otherwise very pleasant.

I stayed in room 8 which was quite a trek from the reception across the carpark. The room was really small, dingy and stiflingly hot. The view from the window was a brick wall. It was not good value for money. We booked as a group of 37 and took out evening meals together in the restuarant (with advanced warning). The service was extremely poor. We waited for approximately 40mins even to be asked if we wanted to order drinks! The food was on par with pub grub and certainly not worth the wait or the money.....

A nice big country house hotel. its in the middle of nowhere and tends to specialise in business conferences etc (even though phone signal is poor). If your staying for a break it is relaxing but there's not much around. Food is standard as a business hotel with set menus with buffet for breakfast and lunch. Rooms are mostly small and leave a bit to be desired. Cleaning isn't the best and some rooms are dated compared to others. The main building is quite grand and the main areas are nice. The grounds are also nice. Having been here a couple of times it isn't the best place when they have large groups in as the bar gets full and there is often noise so beware of this again if your here for pleasure.

Room Tip: Ask for a newly refurbed room

We stayed in or around this part of the world 3 or 4 times a year as some of our closest friends live a stones throw away.
I had stayed at Latimer Place before for a Conference and vowed I would return as a guest.
The good stuff::
Beautiful room. Great staff. Nothing is too much trouble. Great Breakfast. Lovely surroundings.
We stayed in the main house, in room 209. It is rather grand and the decor in our room was lovely.
We checked in very late and were made to feel welcome.
The not so good stuff::
Cleanliness
Our room, in the cold light of day, was very grubby. There was some wood panelling in the Bathroom which was thick with dust. The shower screen had some mould and scum in the corner; as did the plughole on the bath. A squirt of ''Cillit Bang'' and a rub with an old toothbrush would have done the trick. The top of the headboard was thick with dust. We reported this upon departure.
Lots of the fixtures and fittings around the Hotel just needed either a bit of a clean or fixing. There were, for instance, lots of broken light fittings on the stairs.
The Spa
We planned to us the Spa on Saturday morning and again on Sunday morning.
Unfortunately, the Spa is closed to guests on a Saturday morning. When we flagged up our disappointment on the Sunday regarding Saturdays the Head Receptionist was very apologetic. She promised to update the web site and offered us a free drink in the Bar before we departed. The Spa itself is very basic and the changing rooms are very grubby.
The Old House
There are lots of creaky floorboards etc. Very lovely, very quaint. Unfortunately, there was one particulary loose/ rickety floorboard outside Rooms 203/204; a big dip in the carpet which you do not necessarily see until you tread on it. I went head over tail on the Saturday night and sprained my ankle on this floorboard. The staff were very attentive and brought ice to the room and filled in an Accident Report. Tread with care!
The Staff
Very friendly, attentive staff. Nothing is too much trouble. However, one particular Waiter was a little bit too attentive. He continually came to our Breakfast table trying to make conversation and crack jokes. We were deep in conversation and, without being rude, did not particularly want to make a new friend! He also made a few cheeky remarks about my husband and I; "I got your note Madam, I thought I would come over and look after this young man for you"??! On the Sunday as I was making Toast he came over and told me how lovely it was to see that my husband dotes on me so much. It just felt a bit ''odd'' to be honest.

Would we stay here again? Yes. Despite all of the above it is such a lovely building. The staff are amazing. The food is good. It is a nice place to stay and the grounds and surrounding areas are well worth the journey.

Room Tip: Ask to stay in the old House.

I stayed for one night at the De Vere Laitmer Place with my girlfriend. As many other reviewers state, don't expect a room in the main house! We were given a room in the 'Mews' building. While the room itself was clean, reasonably sized and nicely furnished, the view was of a flat felted roof and a red brick wall. My main issue however was the lack of airconditioning! While it was not the hottest of summer days, it was uncomfortably warm in the room and the table top fan did not do the job. In addition the batroom towel rail remained on during the day and added to the heat in the room. The one window could be opened only slightly to let in some breeze. Be warned if you intend to stay during the height of summer!

we stayed in 403 and it was a horrible room with an absolute brick view. It's desperate for a good cleaning and refurbishing. It was far too hot and the website didn't make it clear that the rooms were not air conditioned which is a necessary and assumed feature of any hotel room. None of us slept that night including my four month old baby who usually does. the heater in the bathroom was turned on by default and hence was a furnace!
complimentary toiletries were pathetic and our flush was faulty.
dinner was lovely but breakfast again was very disappointing and insufficient. the grounds were nice though but definitely not going back there again.

I have stayed at Latimer Place a few times with work and I would say that this is foremost a conference centre rather than a leisure hotel. My last stay was in April, with work, and in that context the room and hotel is perfectly acceptable but I would look for another option if I were staying under my own means on holiday. The location is certainly pretty and rural and there are lots of attractive grounds but if you are not travelling with a car then you would be quite stuck and reliant on taxis to get anywhere, as there is no village of any reasonable size within walking distance (the roads are footpath-less, busy, country lanes) and there is no public transport. The hotel is contained within its own grounds and the function / conference rooms, as well as guest bedrooms, are split between several buildings. On this occasion I stayed in the main house in a fairly modern room that was clean and well equipped with a decent bathroom, TV etc but it must have previously been a smoking room as the smell of tobacco was still present as soon as you opened the door (but disappeared after a few moments once you got used to it). The bed was large and comfortable in itself but the pillows were the hardest ones I have ever come across! The view from my window was of a brick wall and there was very little light coming in. As other reviewers have already pointed out, there was a lot of noise from overhead creaky floorboards too and once the room above was up (at 6am) then there was no chance of continuing to sleep. I have also in the past stayed in one of the other buildings which, although newer built, was actually more disappointing as the room there was smaller, older furnished and quite basic in feel. Another possibly important point to note regarding detractors, is that mobile phone signal is exceptionally poor there across all networks - some were able to get pockets of reception on other networks, but I had none at all on O2 at any point.

On the plus side, there is free WiFi if you have a smart phone which is a bonus and slightly mitigates the lack of phone signal. There is also a pool, a small gym with 1 of each type of machine and some free weights, and the grounds are nice for a stroll or a run. The food is fine and there are a couple of reasonable lounges and outside seating areas.

If you are intending on staying as a leisure traveller, it might be worth checking out first whether there are any conferences on as it can cater for very large corporate events and it may give your stay a different feel to one you were expecting, if you think that might affect your stay.
