We visited Dolcissimo last night for my birthday. We decided to go there (knowing there service was never great from previous visits) because i love their spaghetti marinara.
My fiance had rang up earlier in the day to book a table in the main restaurant section and to reserve a window seat at 7.30pm, as it's nice to be by the large windows, the seats are like a lounge and it is less quashy there. We arrived at 7.29pm and our table was not reserved, we were told it "had been given away" and received no apology. My fiance was a little upset as he had made the effort to ring up and make the booking and said "but i reserved a table next to the window" to which the waiter replied "what do you wanna do? Have a fight? Itw as not ME that gave your table away" I could not believe that they would speak to a customer like this. And it doesn't matter which waiter gave our table away - there's no point in passing teh buck, they all work for the same restaurant! We certainly were not there to argue, and were happy to be seated at another table in the restaurant, which they then set up for us.
Dolcissimo is BYO, so we had brought a nice bottle of Penfolds wine with us - however it took 20min for anyone to bring us glasses to drink from or even ask if we wanted some water.
When a family of four got up from a window seat, i asked if it was okay if when they cleared the table we could move there. The waiter questioned me "WHY is it that you want the window seat so bad?" I was a little taken aback and replied jokingly "because it's my birthday". To which he said "OK"
There are never any wait staff walking around in case you need to ask for something extra, or another drink. After they serve your food - they just disappear.
We have been to this restaurant a few times and i have to say their food is good quality and the meals are quite large but if you like good service - DO NOT GO TO DOLCISSIMO. You will end up feeling frustrated and cranky.
I have to say this will definitely be our last time as i'm really offended at how the waiter spoke to my fiance when he asked him "What you wanna do? Have a fight?" My fiance is a very timid and humble person and was definitely not rude or wanting to "have a fight"
DOLCISSIMO - you'll never see another dollar of ours again. It would be great if the quality of your service matched your food!
