“Great time. Great resort”
Reviewed February 14, 2013

we enjoyed this resort. Room was nothing special but we weren't planning on spending too much time in it so it worked out. If you like to nap or want to get to bed early i would not recommend a room facing the main pool. The music and entertainment are non stop and to be honest a little too loud. The food was good. A bit of everything for everyone. The staff was phenomenal. The whole resort is kept spotless and looks great. By far the best resort in that area, defenetly the best beach front found in the area. If you really do want to experience the cuban culture venture out and take a toor on a horse buggy make friends with one of the locals and they will treat you like royalty and please make sure to do the same. They are the most simple friendly people you will find. we made friends with one of the horse buggy drivers and he took us on a horse back ride and invited us to a great pork roast dinner at his home with his family.

As we were boarding our bus to come home he saw us across the road ran about 200 feet to come and say a last goodbye. Brings tears to my eyes just thinking about that moment. IT was the highlight of my trip. In canada we are much too spoiled and need more simple gestures like this. I cant wait to go back and yes to the same resort and hopefully find my new friend again.

Room Tip: if you want quiet go to the villas or do not face the main pool area.. the music goes on and on and...

Just back - 11th year. They couldn't do more. We meet retired couples in Feb each year, mainly Canadans as well as Brits but quality, as uch fun as you want and, if Thomson include it for 2014, we'll be back. (Thomas Cook don't do Premium service - forget it!!)

Room Tip: 5th floor hotel. Sea view rooms are great but you need to close doors and have a/c on if it is noisy...

We enjoyed this resort March 2011, booked a villa room very quiet and enjoyed the most relaxing week..
The room was not fancy but clean and spacious even with the extra beds brought in for the girls.
A lovely balcony overlooking the gardens.
We enjoyed the buffet and the children loved the grills and pasta bar, Cuban bread has become a favourite with them.
The beach was beautiful with shade ...lots to explore. Entertainment was fun.
The girls said this was the best trip ever...had hoped to return this year but our dates are booked
Those going we hope you enjoy, and we will try next year! Happy travels!

Room Tip: Villas are quiet

Our family of four, two adults and two children, stayed at the villas for one week. Both kids had their own beds and me and my wife had a king size. The service was fantastic and the people were very friendly. The food was okay, you will not starve but don't expect high end restaurants quality. The drinks were plentiful and they were not shy with the rum. The beach is beautiful, there were no people bugging you for money or anything. The resort is well worth the price.

I would recommend the aquarium in holguin, my kids loved swimming with the dolphins. The price is very reasonable and well worth it.

We travelled to Brisas from Jan 18 to Jan 25 and this was our third visit. This review will focus on the food at this resort and only touch on a few other things. Also it will be specific to what I or my wife ate and not necessarily what was available.

Breakfast Buffet: I love omelette's so that is what I had every morning. Very good with all the ingredients such as ham, pepper, cheese, onions. I would also get a few pieces of yummy crispy bacon hot off the grill. With this a few slices of very fresh bread and butter. To finish off breakfast some fresh cut papaya and pineapple and perhaps some fresh squeezed OJ.
My wife loved the crepes and fresh fruit.

For lunch we avoided the snack bar although it seemed to be popular. We had pizza once and it was OK but not quite cooked long enough.

We had most lunches in the Cuban restaurant which is beside the 24 hour bar. There we had lovely chicken soup, bbq chicken, fish, ribs, salad, really good rice and beans.

We also had lunch at the International where we also had fish and chicken and salad and it was also good.

For dinner we ate at the Trattoria where I had an appetizer of smoked salmon which was very good. For main course I had seafood soup and mahi mahi which was nice.

At the El Patio the root soup was very good and the seafood soup was so so. We both had lobster and shrimp. The shrimp were good and the lobster just OK as it was a little overcooked. We had champagne to drink.

At the International we had smoked salmon again and prosciutto appetizers. The beef soup was good. The lamb with strawberry sauce could have been good but it was so salty it ruined the experience.

At the Buccanero the coconut shrimp is a must have. The beef boiled drunk soup was good but the cream soup not so much. They served a nice salad and we had the stuffed chicken which was good but not very hot. Bottled beer and champagne were the beverages of choice here. Desert was a trio of cake and ice cream things which was pretty good.

We ate off resort twice so only went to the buffet once for an appetizer of fresh cooked shrimp and medium rare roast beef cut from the roast.

We probably enjoyed the El Capucchino bar the most as we would have nice Spanish coffees and iced coffees there. Orlando the bar tender is very personable and tries hard to be funny.

In a previous review someone commented on the taste of the water. The water did put us off as well. So much so that I had to put Baileys in my coffee to cover up the taste. You could taste it in most of the drinks. When I inquired as to why it had this taste I was told it was because of the hurricane and the way or change in the way it was being filtered. It would be good to know when this changes.

Another thing that bothered us was that there was no mint for mojitos. I thought this was inexcusable and it was hinted again that the hurricane was to blame. But I grow this exact same mint myself and you can't kill it, it is like a weed and surely would now be profuse again since the hurricane was a few months prior.

All in all we had a good time there again and will go back but probably not until I know they have corrected the water problem.

Not sure where any of the negative reports come from - incredibly wonderful staff - beautiful beach (possibly the best beach I've have ever stayed at). Despite other reports, the food was very good - not the "same muck morning noon and night' as recently expressed in another review. The facilities are a little tired, but it isn't a luxury hotel - for the price, it was outstanding. We stayed in the Villas, which had very spacious rooms, and everything was very clean.
We always felt safe, and we were travelling with family with 2 very young children. As for tipping, you tip like you would at any other resort - we never felt expected to tip ( but often did because we so well taken care of).

The only negative was that there was only one person from which to buy Cuban Convertible Pesos, and the lineup at times was very long.

Room Tip: For a quieter area, and more spacious rooms, choose the Villas

The first thing (and only positive thing) to say is that the beach is GORGEOUS and it's no wonder so many have their weddings there. However, the next thing I noticed (and continued to for the fortnight) was the disgusting taste and smell their water left everywhere:-(

Never again, the actual furnishings (and hotel in general) are in need of a major overall, very dowdy. The bar staff can be quite notionate how they treat you, they prefer the big tipping Canadians who seem to take over the place.

As for the food it was awful! It was practically the same mixed up muck morning, noon and night.

All the staff expect you tip for the simplest task, frying you a couple of eggs, pouring you a drink, even the manager's mum has got in on the act and makes doughnuts that has folk queuing round the block for everyday at 1 peso a plate.

Glad to be home.

Room Tip: I'm not sure what the villas are like inside as we were in the hotel but a friend who was stayin...
