Just came back from a weeks vacation at the Playa Pesquero.I must say that this is my second trip to Cuba and this is the best resort. The resort is clean and very big.The staff goes out of their way to make sure you are well looked after. We stayed in building 62 and our housekeeper was Betty, she is amazing. So thoughtful and kind. The waiter in the lobby was named Eduardo was also fantastic. The ala carte restaurants that we went to were The Italian,La Romantico and the Grill. They were all very good.Although the food in cuba is never really that fantastic, you cans always find something to eat.The beer garden by the beach has great shrimp and calamari and there is also a restaurant by the beach that makes great chicken. We were a party of 11 and everyone of us had a great time.We would definitely go back. The beach gorgeous and the water is so clear,I think the next time we go it will be for 10 days.Awesome Resort.

Huge rambling property that may not be suitable for the elderly or infirm. It is now in the process of expanding again and may soon lose control of customer service. There are enough employees but can be better managed . No matter how many people are lining up to check in,buy internet cards etc there are not more than 1-2 front desk people handling the clients.
For very early departures there is one restaurant avail for breakfast near the beach 5-10min walk .from the bus pickup . Only one waitress for 20-30 people all wanting to eat in 20-30 minutes before leaving the property . It does not work.
I still rate this a very good hotel mostly for the staff who always do their best to help .
The rooms are clean . Food is good especially in specialty restaurants . Do not miss the Friday pig roast near the beach.
Thare is a restaurant Catacyo near the beach next to the bar that has super fried chicken one of the best I have had (do pass on fried squid rings they are terrible)
The hotel could improve on maps situated on property as many are in reverse view . Getting lost especially at night is easy to do
Treat yourself to a massage with Maria not expensive and very professional.
This can be a great vacation but need to be in one of the more central blocks 10-20
try and avoit the higher numbers 40-50 as they are remote and closer to construction that sometimes goes on into the evening.

Room Tip: Avoid building in higher numbers . I stayed in block 15 it was about as goog as you can get

Hotel Grounds – Since the hotel is of a large size it provides you with a lot of space to walk, wide pathways, grounds are clean and kept up to date. Nice trees, plants, shrubs, flowers all around. Can take evening strolls throughout /around the hotel grounds.2 storey villa rooms on the left/right side, in the front is the lobby, buffet restaurants (2), reservation area, coffee coach, main theater stage. Walk straight from the lobby and you reach the large swimming pools on 2 sides. Followed by the “promenade” with a few shops (liquor, beachwear, photo), a mojito bar, ice cream parlour, beer garden and then vendors setup stalls with merchandise for purchase – all on the walkway towards the beach.
Hotel Room– Room is large, clean, and did not smell. We were on the ground floor and did not encounter any crabs, tarantulas, or any bugs as others have mentioned – so ground floor rooms are fine. The Maid did a great job keeping the room clean and items well stocked. Even though I booked close to the date we got a room close to the lobby (section 45) which was a 2 minute walk to lobby and breakfast buffet.
Lobby is huge, plenty of seating area, washrooms are clean (could be lit up better), bar service is quick with plenty of choices and coffee coach offers (cappuccinos, hot choco, latte, hot milk – all good). There is a money exchange in the lobby, and a la carte reservation desk – reservations start at 8m (get there early to avoid a large lineup). They had evening shows but they weren’t great, did not keep you engaged or entertained.
Beach – Beach was fantastic. Crystal clear blue/turquoise waters, has soft sand, no rocks, no coral, no shells, and no seaweed in the water. There are some sections of coral, but mostly clear areas. On the left side of the hotel has an area but the water is bit rough and not as clear (but seating is available even if you go later in the day), on the right side of the hotel is where the best water can be found, but you need to get there early to reserve a seat. Hotel could improve on setting up more palapas for shade, as there is room for more. This is the only hotel where you had to go to a worker to get beach chairs, you couldn’t just take them yourself or they weren’t just under a palapa from the day before. Sometimes the worker would go somewhere and put a lock on the stack of chairs, never seen this at other hotels. As for walking along the beach, it’s a good length for a walk, but it’s not as long a stretch of beach like in Varadaro or Punta Cana. When you walk along the beach area where Playa costa verde and blau costa verde are its gets very rocky/shelly on the sand, and there is a lot of coral in the water where those 2 hotels are located. All 3 hotels are on Playa Pesquero beach but Playa Pesquero hotel is situated on the best part of that beach. There is a nice pizza hut on the left side of the beach (pizza was nice, usually it’s not great in Cuba but here it was good), there is a bar next to the pizza hut, and a restaurant. Didn’t like the food in this restaurant at all. Ended up eating at the restaurant called Yareyal by the pool. This place had excellent BBQ shrimp, chicken, beef, fish – ate the BBQ shrimp for 4 days straight. There is only 1 washroom on the beach and that is on the left side in the restaurant.
Food/ Restaurants – Buffet breakfast at the 2 main restaurants close to lobby were good. Buffets were not open during lunch hour, and we did not like the selection of food during the evening. Everything is cold even though steam is coming out of it, and had no taste. Make sure you get reservations for the a la carte, as the food is hot and tastes good. Booked the Seafood (had lobster wasn’t cooked the way we like, was chewy), the Caribeno (same thing lobster was chewy, the woman cooks it right in front of you but doesn’t understand English so there’s no point telling her how you like the food made), La Gondola (Italian very nice and food was great, order the pasta), and Romantico ( décor was very nice inside and food was great too). Have lunch at Yareyal near the pool area, great BBQ shrimp!! There is a fish n chip stand near the pool this is bite size pieces of fish with fries (not the fish n chips you get in UK). Drinks were ok, I’ve had better. Did not get sick at all like others have mentioned.
Excursions – We did not go to Holguin as the description of the tour didn’t seem like it provided much. Did take the Double decker bus to Guardalavaca beach/market, the market is very small (not like in Havana) and the beach is rough, with no beach chairs, there are a few huts, but you might as well stay at your hotel. Many locals frequent the Guardalavaca beach, mostly families and young teenagers – it’s safe. Prices at the market are not reasonable like they are in other parts, they were trying to charge $40CUC for a painting on canvas, and considering our Cdn $ is lower than CUC you are paying $40 Cdn for a flimsy painting. The bus stops at a few hotels then makes its way to Guardalavaca, a lot of greenery and mountainside to see on the way there. There is also a little train that takes you straight to Guardalavaca market from PP hotel. Cost for either is $5CUC roundtrip.
There is not much to do there, but if you want a nice beach, nice people, nice hotel, large property then I would definitely recommend this hotel. I was happy with my stay there, and did have much to complain about (with the exception of mosquitoes they are plenty but you don’t even see them, until the next morning when you realize how many bites you got and big bites too)

Room Tip: Close to the Lobby or Pool Area

My partner and I have just returned from two lovely weeks at this resort. We loved it and were sad to leave.

The pool is amazing and is very big. We never had problems finding a bed at any time of day even though people reserve beds. There are snack bars on either side of the pool. One offers fish and chips and the other hot dogs and Burgers. We thought this was a nice little touch for a quick snack in between breakfast and lunch. There are bars either end of the pool and there is always a waiter walking around who is happy to take your order.

Our room was basic but that didn't bother us as were always out enjoying ourselves. The room was always clean and spotless thanks to our lovely and friendly maid Seline. We stayed in block 28 which is in the middle of the resort and close to everything.

The grounds are immaculate and well looked after. You will always see someone doing something around the resort. There is a lovely little boulevard for shopping and there are different market stalls everyday.

The beach.......WOW. Just lovely. You have to see it to believe it.

The food could be a bit boring and repetitive at times but I have to say that I am a fussy eater. My partner loved all of the seafood on offer. Our favourite restaurant for lunch was Yaryel next to the pool and we loved Romantico and the Seafood restaurant for dinner.

The entertainment was a little outdated and could do with revamping but we still enjoyed ourselves in the evening. We especially enjoyed the street dance crew, the water ballet team and the live bands.
I have read other reviews stating that the bar staff only serve you if you show your money first or give tips. This is rubbish. We didn't always tip and we had the same service regardless.
The staff at this resort are just brilliant, polite and happy to help.

Our first choice rep Angel was attentive, professional and he goes out of his way to help you. He even remembered us from our stay at the Paradisus Reo De Oro two years previously.

We were really disappointed by the tennis courts. Thomson/first choice pictures show a beautiful lovely set of courts but this is definitely not the case. They are faded and the ground is very uneven and cracked. The fences around the courts are rolling up around the edges and the doors were on the floor of the courts. There are exposed wires and bolts in a couple of the courts where there used to be floodlights and only three of the flood lights work so as soon as the sun starts to fade you cannot continue playing. Such a shame and this is the only reason why we did not give this hotel 5 stars. Please fix this Playa Pesquero.

Despite the tennis courts and a few other tiny issues we WILL be going back to this resort. In fact, we have just tried to book again for next January but Thomson only allow you to book up until October otherwise we would of booked straightaway.
I recommend this hotel 100% and we can't wait to go back next year.

We stayed at Playa Pesquero over the Christmas holiday. It was our 5th time there. We keep coming back to this hotel, because of its sandy beach, very clean ocean and friendly, genuinely warm Cuban staff. The hotel is nice, with a large buffet and several a la carte restaurants with all varieties of foods. Our favorite restaurant was the Seafood restaurant on the beach. This place has it all - a romantic setting, great, fresh seafood and always very friendly, smiling staff managed by William, who does his best to provide you with the superior service!
