Just returned after a two week stay at the hermes. A lovely hotel in a great position and very
clean. Not so good for vegetarians. one evening a mushroom omelette was offered for a
main meal with a little salad of tomatoes, onion and a slice of pepper. on any meal in the evening there was no veg. The breakfast was very poor, no choice just cornflakes and toast unless you
paid extra. The charge for an egg was 1 euro. The poolside café was much better and the staff
there were very helpful. All in all a better service at breakfast and forget the evening meal as the taverners in town were excellent with many choices of veg with the meals.

Room Tip: as there is no lift not suitable for guests with walking problems.

My wife and I have just returned from a 7 day relaxing break at the Hermes hotel.

Our flight arrived in the early hours and along with another couple, the hotel night porter seemed shocked to see us! To her credit Diane the owner got out of bed and resolved the problem.

As has been said previously the hotel is on a slight hill. If your of average fitness it wont be an issue, however those with mobility problems will struggle to get too/from the hotel or to get around the complex as there are steep slopes and stairs to contend with.

The hotel, rooms and pool are very clean. Staff are friendly and helpful and there is very much a home from home feel around the complex.

Despite Kefalos being a very quiet resort, there is very much a mix of young and old at the hotel, all of whom have clearly booked to enjoy the peace and quiet, the sun and the beautiful views. If your looking for a party atmosphere you may want to look around Kos town.

The Pro's:

Clean, quiet, friendly. Great pool with plenty of sun loungers. Great views from all rooms. Good joice of food at reasonable prices within the hotel.

Rooms have recently been refurbished.

The Cons:

Expensive to access the internet. A good business idea may be to offer free wifi in the bar. Guest would probably not go down to the village in search of the free options.

Steep steps to the upper blocks.

The hotel does not let you eat in your rooms, in turn there is no tea making facilities, no plates or cuttlery etc.

We have just returned this week from a great week's stay at the Hermes - our first visit. We really enjoyed it, and felt very welcome and at home from arrival. Diana and Sav are lovely; kind and helpful - they seem genuinely interested and keen that their guests are enjoying their stay and clearly work extremely hard on this - good staff too. The hotel is quite small - capacity about 50 or so rooms, I believe, and as far as I could see, all rooms were situated with either a balcony or a patio - facing the sea, with fabulous views, and overlooking (in the distance) the Kefalos tourist area, below the hotel, but far enough away not to interfere with the peace and quiet. It has the feel of a good family hotel, best suited to those who want to enjoy the surroundings, and have a relatively quiet time. The nearest beach, and the nearest lively tourist areas way below the hotel are no more than about 5 - 10 minutes walk (downhill) with small supermarkets and a wide choice of eateries, tavernas, etc - some more authentically 'Greek' than others - spread along the road or facing the long beach area. Kefalos village itself is a short drive (5 minutes) up the winding road above the hotel.
For those with mobility difficulties, be aware that there are flights of steps/steep slopes between the flatter main reception and restaurant/pool areas, and the three buildings which house the actual rooms. The entrance to the hotel is also accessed by quite a steep flight of steps or a steep slope.
As already highlighted, the (included) 'continental' breakfast is cornflakes/toast only (ie quite basic) but with a wide choice of good additional options (including English breakfast or fruit, pancakes, yoghurt etc) which are payable separately at the time of eating. This is not a major issue, but perhaps it could be flagged up a bit more clearly before arrival (as we had wrongly assumed that the continental breakfast was the usual type - to include, meats, cheese, fruit, rolls, yoghurt, etc), so were a little disappointed by lack of choice in the inclusive (ie B&B) arrangement. Otherwise, we had absolutely no concerns. Our room and bathroom (with shower) was fairly simple, but well fitted, clean and quiet. The views are fantastic.
It is probably a good idea to pay the additional 49 Euros (currently) at reception, for access to the individual air conditioning control system in each room - as otherwise the indoor heat could be pretty unbearable in summer, especially at night. There is also an option to purchase a prepaid internet access card at the hotel (about 5 Euros I think, for 90 minutes), but like others, we found the connectivity very intermittent - either very slow or non-existent, and usually impossible to connect whilst in your room. It wasn't a major issue for us.
It is also definitely worth hiring a car, as the island is only about 30 miles long, with amazing beaches and beautiful sites to visit - many away from the main artery road which runs north/south along the length of the island. We picked up a car at the airport, and the drive from the airport to the Hermes takes about 15-20 minutes on the main route. There is plenty of parking space at the hotel, and it is also possible to hire a car from there. Driving on some of the more minor roads on the island needs care though, with some fairly steep inclines, sharp bends, rough patches, potholes, etc.
Anyway - we had a fabulous time - the Hermes is highly recommended as a place to 'chill' and relax. 'Efkharisto' again Diana and Sav - see you next year!

Room Tip: All rooms face the sea and have balcony or patio. Each set of four rooms has adjacent balconies - wi...

We have just come back from a week at the Hermes Hotel and had a wonderful time. The hosts Diane & Sebastan were very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble, they always asked how you were and where you had been that day and seemed genuinely interested. The room was very clean and all the staff were friendly. The view from the balcony was lovely looking out over the bay. We had some lovely meals out in the evening and drinks at the beach bar, Santa Barbara's was my favourite but there were so many to chose from. We booked a trip to see the sunset in Zia with the local travel agent on the beach road and it was well worth it. I would definetly recommend the Hermes Hotel although air conditioner is a must as it gets very hot, I wouldn't be able to cope with the heat any later in the season. The walk down to the beach is quite pleasant as long as you are careful of the road. I would definitely hire a quad bike or buggy if we went again just so we could explore the other beaches. Although the buses don't run very frequent they are reliable and we went on a bus to Kos town which was well worth a visit, also got the bus to Paradise beach which was fabulous. The sea is so clean and crystal clear and is perfect for swimmng even for someone nervous like me. Thanks again Diane who saved me from being completly penniless when I left the key to the safety deposit box in the box with all my holiday money in, very trustworthy. We did have a problem with the shower leaking but once we mentioned it to Diane it was fixed within the a couple of hours. The breakfasts were basic if you were on B&B but it was adequate for us as we don't like eating a big breakfast. All in all I wish we were back there now.

Room Tip: If you have difficulty walking up steps ask for a room near the pool

hill top location so not so good if you have trouble walking , friendly bar staff etc , a resonable choice for breakfast and very clean well equiped apartments . some apartments have a big patio area ideal for families as it has run around space, the only down side to those is the way the windows open it makes it not ok to leave open during the night (while awake obviously)

I had the pleasure of spending two weeks in this wonderful hotel last July - the whole experience from start to finish was one that I will never forget. Not only is the Hermes located on a slight incline, providing beautiful views of kamari bay, but the pool is large and clean, and provides a great base should you want to spend the day lounging there. The staff are all pleasant and friendly, Effie (their daughter who worked at the pool bar) was always keen to talk and really took an interest in every guest. It's these small details that sets this hotel apart from others - the whole ambiance of the place is one of calm tranquillity, and I felt very at ease. The rooms are basic, and you do have to pay for air con - but any hotel like this in Greece's recent economy needs to fund itself somehow, so I think this was reasonable. The breakfast is also basic, but we found that cafes and restaurants all over Kefalos were very reasonably priced, and we often payed 15 euros for our whole meal for 2 people!
The Hermes provides the perfect location for exploring the island - I would recommend hiring a quad bike or scooter as this allows you to see all of the beautiful beaches and churches and views which can be found round every corner. We did take a trip to Kos town, which was definitely worth the hour bus ride - but I much preferred the atmosphere of Kefalos. It is a small, picturesque village which really felt like a slice of the true Greece. Anyone wanting utter relaxation at a great price, please go and cherish every second at this hotel!

Wow! Wow! Wow! What a fabulous holiday we had in Kefalos, Kos with our brilliant host and proprietor of our hotel- The Hermes, the ever smiling helpful Diana and her husband Sebastian and their wonderful team of staff who made our stay in Kefalos a memorable one.

Right from the very start of our arrival to our Hermes hotel, we straight away felt like it was a home away from home. We arrived late in the evening, tired and weary from our journey, to the warm greeting from Diana. As we entered our room we were treated to a lovely view from our balcony which overlooked the Bay, the town and the silhouette of the hills surrounding the scene. It was also very beautiful to see the view in the morning sunshine.

The room was very clean and we were pleased to see there was a small fridge, compared to our stay in a hotel in Kafeloina where you have to rent a fridge to store food. We had a sofa situated near the balcony to sit down and relax and watch the scenery with a book after a day out at the beach or town. In the evening, before retiring to bed, we sat outside our balcony with a nice cup of coffee to view the night lights of the town and the millions of stars, unaffected by the light pollution we are so used to in the UK, twinkling high up in the sky. We enjoyed the cool breeze at the close of the day.

My wife and I were treated each morning to see how beautifully our beds were made. The light linen blankets were folded like a giant butterfly on our beds which was amusing and a delight to see. The floors are mopped every day and our entire kitchen sink kept neat and clean ready for our next use of making tea and coffee or light meals and snacks.

The shower and toilet are very clean and all out towels changed daily. The only slight downside of the shower/ toilet is when you shower, the water overflows right outside the door. The remedy to that is to lay a towel across the floor along the door. That stops the water from flowing out of the door. It was no big deal for us and that didn’t stop us from enjoying our stay at the hotel, and our lovely room with a view from our very own balcony. What a treat it was.

Breakfast is very basic and gets served at 08:00am. Don’t expect anything fancy unless you are willing to pay more for a good full English breakfast. I can assure you that you will never going to miss your Full English fried breakfast in Kafelos, because, the moment you step out of your hotel and wander down the 15-20 minutes’ walk into town, you will be ‘shocked’ to see a WHOLE row of eating stalls and restaurants along the entire street, tempting you to step in to try their Full English Fried Breakfast served all DAY. You can eat to your hearts content and never miss a full English breakfast.

Hermes Hotel is situated in an ideal location, a close walking distance to everything; the shops, restaurants, Tavernas, car hire, grocery, gift shops, the beach, the seafront, bars, etc.

If you want to buy quick groceries to take to your hotel, without having to walk long distance, just wander down the hill and pass the petrol station on your right hand side and immediately around the corner is a grocery shop run by a really nice man called Nicolas. He is able to understand and speak Basic English. We became good friends with him and he was helpful when we needed to know what buses to take to visit places or the local surrounding area.

Diana and Sebastian will also able to help with all the buses and timetables to visit interesting places in Kos or nearby place of interest. You can also hire a car from the hotel. Nicholas the barman who works at the hotel- better known as ‘Nick’- also has great information on the local area. He is a really nice bloke.

If you want to explore the local village, its best to start off early in the morning before it gets too hot. You can take a wander up the hill to the village just behind the hotel with breath-taking views of the Kefalos Bay looking down from the hill. As you reach the very top of the hill you come into the village and there are many lovely coffee shops and restaurants. There is one coffee shop at the very corner overlooking the Bay with a charming young man by the name of …yes! you have guessed it –Nicholas or Nick. Nick, who served us fantastic pancakes and awesome Kiwi fruit juice, says that he is the only genuine Nicholas of Kefalos. Another great personality which is his strongest PR to get customers into the shop. He does it well.

It looks like, one thing you can be sure of is that the men of Kefalos, their names are easy to remember just call them Nicholas, Nico or Nick.

In the evening, there are many lovely seafood and Greek food restaurants along the seafront for you to enjoy the evening with your loved ones. We tried different ones each evening and they all taste very good and enjoyed the company of the friendly locals who served us the meals. We then took a nice quiet stroll along the beach front after our meal to enjoy the cool evening sea breeze and slowly head back to our hotel.

If you are interested to be a part of Thomas Cook tour guides to see places of interest in Kefalos or enjoy a day out of Island Hopping excursions, you can meet with Thomas Cook Representative Andy, a very helpful and friendly guy and he will help you organise visits to places of interest. You can contact Andy at the Hotel itself.
You can join the Thomas Cook excursion trips even if you did not book your holidays with Thomas Cook. Andy will be able to help you with any info and prices for the various trips they organise. The prices for the trips are reasonable and not expensive.

We thoroughly enjoyed our trips with Thomas Cook during our stay at the Hotel even though we didn’t book our holidays with Thomas Cook. We went Island Hopping, visited a live Volcano and walked on the crater of the Volcano.
On our last day of our stay, we took a bus right outside Hermes Hotel to Kos City. We wandered around the city visiting places of interest, had a lovely lunch in front of the harbour. We then visited Hippocrates first medical hospital built in 300 B.C. Incredible site to visit. A must for all who visit Kos to see this incredible famous building.

Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our holiday in Kefalos and I want to say Diana and Sebastian made sure that our stay at The Hermes, is a pleasant one and that we were made to feel at home rather than in a hotel. You are well taken care off by this couple. We will definitely come back to Hermes Hotel again to stay and meet up with Diana, Sebastian, the staff team and the many Nick, Nico or Nicholas of Kefalos we have met.

We very much enjoyed Kefalos, strong in hospitality, its beauty and its lovely and friendly people.
