“Amazing hosts”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 27, 2013

We arrived late on Saturday 15.09.2012 and were shown to our room which was of a good size with two single beds. It was not until the morning when I opened the curtains and saw the amazing view overlooking Kastri Island and Kamari Bay that I realised what a great room this was. There is a small kitchenette with kettle, 2 ring stove and sink. The bathroom is fully tiled with toilet, shower and sink, the floor of the bathroom does get wet when using the shower so we put the shower mat outside the bathroom door and it stayed dry.
We had booked half board so made our way down the restaurant to look what was on offer. Toast, cereal and yoghurt and honey were included with other options available at an extra cost. The evening meal options for the day are on a board on the wall and for those on half board included 2 starters, 3 mains (2 Greek and 1 English) and 2 puddings. There were other options available again at an extra cost. We ate in the restaurant every night except one and not once were we disappointed or left hungry. The lunch menu had sandwiches, salads and pizza and Jodie still talks about the tuna salad.
The pool area has the great same views as the rooms and was immaculate (some mornings I had watched the cleaners go about their work even removing the cushions from the sun loungers and cleaning the frames). Some days we had the whole pool area to ourselves even though the hotel was nearly full. There is a free bus that takes into the resort, I used to walk down in the afternoon and catch the six o’clock bus back up. The bus may have seen better days but it is a lot quicker than me up the hill.
The hotel is run by an absolutely wonderful family who will do anything to make your holiday special. Janet is probably the nicest person I have ever met, always welcomes you with the biggest smile. She seems to be on duty from seven in the morning until ten at night and has so much energy it is amazing. On one day I mentioned that we were going down to the resort to hire a car for a couple of days and she offered to sort it out for me. A car was duly delivered to the hotel within an hour. Janet even sat with us that evening and showed us all the places to visit on the map. Panos and Babis are the two men that look after the cooking and run the complimentary bus to the resort. I was up early one morning and Panos took me to his farm where he keeps pigs, chickens and goats. Maria who looks after the bar in the afternoon, Janet and Panos’s daughter Sevi who helps in the evening is very friendly as is Louise.
Even if I had paid twice the amount for my holiday I would have been very happy, we try to go to different places every holiday but we have both decided that this hotel is going to be the exception and cannot wait to get back.

Stayed at the Pantheon In September 13 and got the best warm friendly welcome I have ever had on a holiday.

Janet and her family can not do enough for you, the rooms are cleaned every other day and the cleaning staff are very talented they leave the clean towels in many different shapes, I had an Elephant one day, absolutely brilliant.

The hotel is in a very good spot with a good view of the sea. It is a bit further out but worth the effort of the walk.

We booked some trips from the hotel and Janet showed true interest in how we enjoyed them.

We also visit the Mythos Bar and the owners Ilias and Margarita are great host's it is well worth a visit.

Room Tip: Rooms 109 and 110 are in a great spot to see Turkey on a good day and brilliant views of the sea.

What to say ? A lovely setting but too far out. Rooms only cleaned once a week. Very small and not very well equipped. Owners only interested in money. Never again. Nothing to do. Bus should be scrapped as is dangerous. Overall rating zero.

Room Tip: Don't go there

A very warm welcome from Janet, who originates from the UK but is fully embedded in Greek life with her family.
The hotel is in a choice spot on the outskirts of Kefalos, high above the bay. You can choose to go half board, which many did, and the staff are more than happy to make snacks and drinks up throughout the day.
The swimming pool is gorgeous, with plenty sun-beds available for use, sheltered by a surrounding wall. It is a rare sun-trap. The view is spectacular.
The rooms are comfortable and air conditioning is available for a small additional charge. While there are cooking facilities I confess we mainly did bottled water in the fridge and a few coffees with toast. After all, we were on holiday. The cleaners left beautifully arranged towels on the beds and showed a great sense of humour for our last linen change.
While it lies a good walk from the centre of town there is a courtesy bus to take you down or pick up 3 times a day, to the closest shop which is in easy access of the beach. There is also a main bus stop a short walk down the hill to catch a bus up to inland Kefalos or to Kos Town. This is the stop where are tours pick up from as well.
You can have as relaxing a time as you want or take the opportunity we did to take some tours. The representatives offered a wide range from the hotel. We built an appetite with the exercise walking back and forward to town.

Room Tip: Room 109 at end of corridor and room 110 are twin rooms with balconies looking out towards airport...

I stayed here for one week with my mother in law and daughter as a treat for both their special birthdays 70th and 18th. We were immediately welcomed by Janet, who swiftly showed us to our room 112 in the main block of the hotel, which was very spacious enough room for 2 double beds and more. Having arrived in the dark Janet said that we would wake up to a wonderful view of another island from our balcony - after having a comfortable sleep, we all proceeded to the balcony to have a look at the view and wow Janet was not wrong it was absolutely breathtaking. We all showered quickly due to the water being what I can describe as being tepid this was due to it being solar powered, didn't mind this as it woke us all up and refreshed us all ready to start the day.

As we were on a full board basis, we all went for breakfast which consisted of cornflakes, Greek yogurt and honey, toast and preserves, tea, coffee and fruit juice. Full English and cooked breakfast were available for a small charge. We had a bacon roll on our last day which was very nice!! Lunch and dinner was lovely homemade Greek food and lots of it. Kos is a beautiful island and if you are considering visiting here - do it you won't be disappointed, a car is a must which can be hired by minolis, we paid £120 euros for 5 days which I thought was very reasonable.

We did one boat excursion with Zeus which operated out of Kardemena harbour with skippers Andy and Carole this was amazing and would recommend it- look them up on here trip advisor, you would be silly not to pass up this trip.

Thank you Janet, Panos and family, Maria for our cocktails and her husband the cook and bus driver, Louise, and not forgetting the maids that kept our room lovely, clean with great towel art thrown in for fun. You made our first holiday to the Greek Islands a happy and memorable one. I intend to return to Pantheon next year with my husband and cannot wait xxxx

A week in September in Kos at the Pantheon was a great choice offered by 'On The Beach' who tied us up with RyanAir and an efficient transfer to make this a relaxing holiday destination.
On arrival at 10pm we were given a big welcome by Janet who been there 20 years, and a beer and a toastie by her Greek husband Pappis.
Our room was in Block 2, a smart looking 3 story balconied building on the top of the hill, with views both sides to the coast - good for taking the breeze (Meltemi, I think for our first three days) - and over the pool, and breakfast terrace down to the bay. It's an absolutely fantastic view, spoilt only by Club Med's defunct beach-side resort below. It's a prime site and there are no tavernas on the beach there the best sand in the bay, too.
The room was typically Greek standard, with a proper WC (paper in bin, please!) with shower and basin. However we never really enjoyed one hot shower as the solar powered hot water was always exhausted, and then when it did come on it was too hot and the base got blocked up and over-flowing before we could get it right! Janet had it 'fixed' on 2nd attempt, but we never had it how we'd liked.
We should also mention, too that when the wind died, the room was invaded by mosquitoes and it was hell in there. We wrapped in our individual sheets (twin beds), but it was too hot to stay like that with the balcony door closed so we had to suffer. The answer is to have gauze panels fitted to the windows, and maybe an offer of a mosquito net (a hook was there on the wrong side of the room, oddly?).
But apart from all that, The Pantheon offered its guests Half-Board (we chose just B&B) which was quite popular with those without their own transport to reach the beach bars and restaurants down below (a slog back uphill on busy main road). A knackered (hardly MOT standard) bus was used by pappis to take us down and back at 10am, 1.30 pm and 6pm, which was convenient, but there was no evening service now they have their own dinner service!
Don't worry though, it is cheap and easy to hire a scooter or quad bike, or car to travel all over the island at the pace you like.
We took the bus to Kos at the other end of the island, and travel to almost every quarter on its winding journey in an hour to explore the main town, its fortress castle, the harbour and some ancient ruins before taking lunch in a pretty side street away from the meltemi's blast, and we found all the restaurants offering a super choice of seafood and traditional meals which were very reasonably priced and delicious.
Another day was spent on a boat trip over to Nissyros, and island on the horizon visible from the pantheon, and there we were ferried up the mountainside into the volcano within! What a memorable place, Not only was it so strange walking over the crusty ground with steam belching out in a moon like crater, but it was amazing to try and understand how they built the mountain side's terraces, layers of stone boulders reaching for ever upwards. Who worked them, and how did they get their produce back to civilisation? No guides were available to answer these questions, so we remain intrigued!
Hire a car and you can explore the other coastal resorts, and the magical mountain top interior at Zia where they attract coach loads to watch the sun go down over the island from fabulously perched restaurants scattered around the maze of alleyways.
Returning each evening to the Pantheon we were given a cheerful welcome by Janet and her family and staff, and it was the best place to be for an evening drink watching the boats, wind-surfers, and planes zoom about their business!
If only Janet had wifi, free like the rest of Kefalos. She had an Internet Corner, charged at €5/90 mins, but it was inconvenient, and not practical. She's losing out on guests telling their friends how good it is there, and we just missed out on news of our kids back home (good or bad?).
Some of the countryside is mucky with refuse chucked over the side, and there's unfinished building work all over the place, so we urge the Greeks to work hard, and get things sorted out soon. So much of the land could be used for useful farm produce, but it's just wasteland, rugged and cracked wher perhaps earthquakes have heaved the land up and down?
So, if you are looking for a place that is a bit away from the hoards, and want a super view, this is it!

Room Tip: They all face south to the sea, but off the ground floor must be better, and more private, as in Blo...

Just returned from a wonderful week in Kefalos, staying at the Pantheon Studios. I was travelling on my own .Janet and Panos made we feel relaxed and welcome The room was just fine, no frills .fridge, kettle and toaster Views were amazing. Walk 20 mins to the beach or you could take the bus which ran 3 times a day The bus was rather a sharabang ,quite a talking point. Pool clean and a good size The food at the Pantheon was very good and certainly good value The only down side was that there are no Taxis, so at night walking back from the village is a bit of a hike. I felt totally safe on my own but became a bit lazy to walk down to the village in the evening. It would have been great if there had been a bus back at 10 pm
