We arrived fairly late but Maritsa was up and waiting for us. I walked to the next door accommodation to scrounge up some sugar for the tea. They gave me some which was very kind and then that friendliness continued for the rest of the week wherever we went.
There was a review that said the supermarket was a good distance from the studios but it is about 1/2 a kilometre down the hill on the opposite side of the road. Open 8-12 midnight.
We didn't do the sightseeing thing but walked to a restaurant for breakfast the to the beach. Then lunch and back on the beach.
Some of the property looks scruffy and some is unfinished but all of the restaurants were lovely with good food and not expensive.
We were on the ground floor and I think we would have preferred to be upstairs as you get a little outside space to sit. We also had 2 beds which wasn't great for a married couple.
It seemed reasonable to have A/C which was extra (€50 with the safe)

The Maritsa apartments are pretty much what you expect on a budget holiday to Greece. Very basic: one room with 3 simple single beds, wardrobe and table; kitchenette with two ring cooker, kettle and toaster and a few cooking pots; shower room.. and that's about the lot. Upstairs apartments have a small balcony, downstairs have the terrace. You should probably pay for the air con in the height of the summer if you get a room without a proper window at the back as it's very warm in the night.

The rooms are cleaned twice in a week with sheets and towels changed mid week and Maritsa, the owner, is on hand all day should anything need her attention.

There is no pool at the Maritsa however next door at the Manolis there is a lovely pool with free sun beds and a reasonable cafe/bar. Bambis, the manager/owner there is very friendly, but you can use pretty much any pool in the area - for the price of a beer or a snack.

The nearest supermarket is less than 5 minutes away, not a 10 minute hike as previous reviews have suggested. The beach is also around 5-7 minutes away - lovely clean beach with crystal clear sea and an abundance of sun beds (5 euros for 2 beds and a parasol for the day). The walk into the Kefalos harbour is a good 30 minutes but you can find a good selection of bars and restaurants strewn all along the route - you could probably eat in a different place every day even if you were staying for a fortnight, there are that many but, sadly, many are almost empty as this is such a quiet resort. Prices become increasingly expensive the closer to the beach/harbour you are but we never spent more than 40 euros on a meal (2 people with wine!) and we never had a bad meal. There's no explanation for Kefalos being so quiet as it's a perfect place for a family holiday or, in my case, a week of doing absolutely nothing but relaxing, reading and sun bathing.

I do have to mention the cats! If you don't like cats then beware. There are around 15-20 or so all living in the vicinity and whilst non of them are unfriendly, most are not used to company so tend to leave you alone - unless you feed them. If you do like cats you should also be aware that not all of them look to be in the best of health which might be quite upsetting if you're a bit of a feline fan.

I would highly recommend the Maritsa apartments if you're looking for a cheap break in a quiet, pretty location, just don't expect too much luxury or a hectic nightlife!

Have just returned from Maritsa which was a lovely peaceful location. The studio rooms are spotlessly clean comfortable bed, small wet room, and mini kitchen.. 2 rings, fridge sink,, well kitted out with kettle as well.
Martisa is really helpful and always about and as these are family run apartments the family are around all the time. Pool available to use in next door apartments Manolis, with a snack bar around the pool as well, Supermarket less than 5 mins away, beach 5 mins away. As per the previous reviewer, there are many tavernas and restaurants all along the bay, from 5min walk to 30 min walk. The walk up to the old village is great, a good 40 mins there, up hilll at the end, but worth it to sit in a cafe on the square admiring the view and watching the world go by. Kefalos is a great bay quite in some areas. If you get the chance go to Mastahari and get the ferry over to Kalymnos, for a good day out. Good value for money, even managed to pay for the room till late in the evening that makes a big difference with a late flight

After reading the review that said Maritsa Studios were "miles from anywhere" we were stunned when we got there to find it was within comfortable walking distance of: lovely beach with sun beds, boats, windsurfing etc - 5 mins (tops); supermarket 3 -5 mins - just across the road; and plenty of bars, restaurants and tavernas - these are starting from 5 minutes away and then lining the route to the old harbour - which is about 20 - 30 minutes away depending on whether you stroll or walk steadily, and whether you walk along the beach path (quicker) or the road. It is a longer walk to the actual village of Kefalos at the top of the hill (40 - 50 mins), but, being an old mediaeval village built at the highest point locally, you expect that. It is a trip well worth making for the village itself and the stunning view. Also, supermarkets locally have everything you need so there is no actual pressing urgency to make a trip (but do go!)
Maritsa Studios are spotlessly clean, comfortable, have kettle, toaster, 2-ring hob, shower room, balconies with beautiful views and the lovely helpful owner, Maritsa, to advise and assist. Highly recommended and we hope to be back in September. Wonderful.

Arrived at 3.30 in the morning and, as instructed, woke the owner, who showed us to our room.We went straight to bed, and on waking in the morning, found it was pouring with rain.We then discovered we were miles from anywhere.Had a trek in the rain to find a supermarket ( about a ten minute stroll) to obtain milk and bread.Owner was lovely. Laden with provisions we slogged back up the hill.Called at the next door apartments as they had a small cafe open. Nice large snack in there. Back to the apartment, which was now freezing. No hot water at all.One normal knife and fork, one butter knife and one pickle fork. Two spoons and three teaspoons completed the cutlery!
Monday was freezing all day. We asked for extra pillows and blankets, which were immediately provided by the owner, who was great. Turned bedside light on and blew all electrics. She had to come and sort that out for us. Lights fixed next day.By Tuesday, there was a glimmer of sun, but still cold.We hired a scooter as we were so far out. Most of the bars and restaurants in the area were shut, some for some years by the look of them. From Wednesday onwards the weather turned sunny, but still no hot water until the Thursday. So, apartments very basic, clean comfortable and with a toaster and kettle which you dont normally get in Greek apartments. Lack of hot water a bit of a problem. No pool, so you use next doors.Owner and locals lovely and friendly. Dont go if you are not prepared for a long walk to go anywhere, but if you want a quiet relaxing time. these will suit you.

we returned yesterday from another (our third) trip to Kefalos, this time at Maritsa Studios, (previously at Crysoula and Efi). The apartment was room No.1, with wonderful views over beautiful Kefalos, although we offered a choice of room with twin beds, as this one had a double. The apartments are usual Greek standard, spotlessly clean and very basic, though we had a toaster and a kettle here, which is quite rare in Greece!! LOADS of cats and kittens, which pleased us, all very friendly and all typically hungry!! The owners were friendly and helful when asked, although it did take me several attempts to get extra pillows!!! There is a little road noise, but nothing too horrendous, the peace of the situation of Meritsa makes up for this, no bar noise etc. Kefalos is as beautiful as ever, Savvos Taverna and Hippocrates are definately two of the best, although never had a bad meal in our two weeks. Jimmy at the supermarket, and his wife, as helpful and friendly as ever too!!

Room Tip: room one is on 2nd floor with stunning views

Maritsa and family were most welcoming. Room was larger than expected; bed comfortable; dining table chairs doubled as balcony furniture; kitchen area had electric kettle and toaster and two of everything else; shower room had raised stall base without curtain and loads of hot water.
Located on the outskirts of the village; mini market 5 mins; restaurants 10 mins (Rainbow 20 mins great value, no bread or starter required as portions are huge - £20 for two including litre house wine); harbour 40 mins; old village 1 hour + (very steep hill); small swimming pool next door; beach 10 mins; archaeological site 10 mins,
Best liked - sea views to front and country views to rear.
Least liked - some noise from road which you become accustomed to and realise that other apartments are built right next to whereas Maritsa is set one empty block back.
