We were in Ilorin for a conference, and the town's hotels and guest houses were fully booked.Luckily, our protocol unit had got us reservations online to Kingstone grandsuites which was a pleasant surprise as we had been informed that online booking was not possible in any hotel in ilorin.Arriving at Kingstone grand suites,we were impressed by the efficiency and courtesy of the staff. We had been booked into several rooms(rooms were cozy and inviting) and needed to have a pre conference meeting, the hotel gracefully obliged us the use of the smaller hall in the premises. There was also wireless Internet services, and a generally serene atmosphere. It was an enjoyable 5 days for us all, plus the Layla bar had the finest cocktails!

I visit Ilorin several times a year and usually stay at Kwara Hotel.
Getting more adventurous, and seeking a change I asked my local contact to book me in to a different hotel. They chose what on the surface did seem like a nice boutique hotel on a quiet road, but boy were they wrong.
On arriving there is good security at the gates leading into a secure car park. However the Car park also serves the attached huge function room and so once you get past security then unauthorised access to rooms is easy and as the hotel is in blocks, then once a visitor is in then they have the run of the open corridors.
Reception is acceptably clean and tidy and link between reception and sleeping block is covered which gives shade on hot days and protection from rain in the wet season.
On reaching the room it was interesting to see that the door frame was damaged and bady repaired. It looked like it had been broken into at some stage, and despite the credit card lock was certainly not secure.
Thigs really started to go downhill from here. The bathroom had an exposed live flex touching the metal shower, there were live and dead cockroaches in the bedroom and bathroom, the bathroom was grubby and the grout on the tiles around the toilet was a worrying shade of brown. This is for a room that costs about 50 Pounds Sterling per night excluding breakfast.
As I had arrived too late to change hotels, I decided to tough it out for the night, but was kept awake at night by the rowdy pool bar as there was a football match on the wide screen in the bar with over exuberant supporters.
Whilst the sheets were clean I had to ask for a pillow change as they did not smell fresh (diplomacy here) and there was no water to have a wash the next morning as the plumbing could not cope with all the guests showering at the same time.
There is no internet in the rooms and so you have to take your laptop to the Internet cafe in the car park to log in.
Looking out in daylight at the pool bar I noticed that the pool water was so cloudy I could not see the bottom.
Would I stay here again? No Way!!
