My boyfriend came across La Villetta whilst researching where to stay in Tuscany, and I'm so glad he did. It's a fairly new venture - a converted old farm house/barn - and the 6 rooms are all done up beautifully, set in some glorious countryside. Christina and her parents still work the farm, producing wine and olive oil, but she is also a lovely hostess. We had freshly baked cake for breakfast every morning along with the cheese, ham, yoghurt, bread, cereal... We stayed in March 2011, so the weather was a bit miserable, but it was still a stunning location, and in summer - with the sun and the swimming pool - I can only imagine it would be even better. Very highly recommended.

We recently spent a month touring Italy and loved the walled city of Lucignano. It's a wonderful little town with very friendly people and almost no tourism and in a beautiful area. We came across it by chance, choosing to make it our base for a tour of Tuscany but quickly fell in love with it. We stayed in an apartment just outside the town and one morning ,on a walk, we came across a vineyard and being a photographer, I went in to take some pictures of the ripening grapes. No sooner had I started photographing when a man on a tractor drove up and I feared that I was about to be thrown off the property. But, instead, he had a great big smile and gestured to me to go wherever i wanted and take lots of pictures. He didn't speak any English but he was so proud of his beautiful property and wanted us to see it all. As it turned out, we learned the property was an agriturismo- a working farm with accomodations for tourists. I had heard of agriturismos but sort of discounted them when we made our bookings for the trip.

The property is truly beautiful overlooking a valley and the view is breathtaking. We took lots of pictures and finally came across his daughter Christine, who spoke English and gave us a tour of the rooms and the property. The breakfast room was a separate little house and so charming. We only saw two of the accomodations as the rest were occupied. They were each a private little apartment and were so wonderfully decorated with antiques. Each of the apartments had their own sitting room and bath . It was so much nicer than where we were staying and quite reasonable too especially since breakfast came with it. When we enquired as to if they sold any of their wine, they showed us their little store and the father poured us each a big glass of wine from a big keg and said it was all natural and didn't have and sulphites. i don't know what not having sulphites had to do with anything but it sure was great wine and also very reasonably priced. Then he showed us his smoked meats hanging from the ceiling and proceeded to cut us a huge chunk of bread, placed some freshly cut ham on it and drizzled it with their own olive oil. A very unexpected lunch and it was delicious. We couldn't get over their hospitality and friendliness to us and the memory of them made us smile everytime we thought of them that day. By the time we left them, we had already decided that the next time we came to Italy, we would definitely be staying there and made sure we got all their brochures and the name of their website. They did say that it is best to make your booking directly though them which we will be sure to do.
The property is truly beautiful. We made another trip back the next day to buy some wine and this time went in the front entrance which is a treelined road with cypress trees. There is also a very nice inground pool overlooking the valley. I kept thinking how nice it would be to be able to go for a swim on some of those sweltering days we encountered on our trip.

Obviously we didn't stay there to fully experience it but judging by the warmth and sweetmess of the family and what we saw,I think it would be a safe bet to say that staying there would be great.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
"La Villetta" Holiday Farm is named from the place it is located in, which is in Lucignano, near Siena. Whole farm is surrounded by vegetation and encircled by olive groves as well as vineyards, it develops around the farmhouse which dates back to the Middle Ages (thirteenth-century). The main building has been restored to become a bed & breakfast but preserving the territory culture criteria, where the restoration is aimed at allowing the building, which was not used for more than forty years, to be utilized again and at the same time at preserving the socio-economic history of this territory. From Salvadori family's passion, the Holiday Farm has been created as integral part of the farm, in which country activities are handed down from father to son since four generations. Oil and wine, typical products, are always used to prepare or taste the traditional recipes consisting of fruit and vegetables in season as well as the meat from the reared poultry and other animals of the farm. The hospitality heart is the wide common kitchen suited to welcome the guests in a friendly atmosphere, a perfect solution to connect six flats having different conformations and colours, with a maximum of 22 beds. Each room has the first name of a person belonging to the family as a proof of his contribution to develop this project. "La Villetta" Farm is closely related to the country traditions and intends to pass on the love for the simple, traditional values to persons, who want to spend their time in stillness and peace, to have a relaxing and restful holiday time in Tuscany. You can walk along whole farm among olive trees, rows of vines, corn cultivations and sunflowers to appreciate the surrounding view of the Tuscan country. Or you can also enjoy a relaxing swim in the outdoor holiday farm swimming-pool ... more   less
