“Rustic Resort on The Water With Good Food, Friendly Service & Plenty To Do”
Reviewed July 7, 2014

My husband and I spent 3 nights here for a small conference. We stayed in the main building on the second floor in a room with a balcony overlooking the beach area. Our king bed was comfy (actually 2 twins put together to make up a king), although I would have preferred down pillows and a duvet to the puffy patchwork quilt and matching pillow shams.

The resort is family owned and operated. The grounds are nice with many flower gardens throughout. There are plenty of quiet places to go off to read a book and a number of benches scattered along the boardwalk that overlooks the shoreline and the lake.

Our room was quite "rustic" in appearance, but comfortable, similar to visiting an old family cottage. The room and resort had a bit of a 70's feel to it with lots of wood, a thin carpet, an old tv (who cares, you're not there to watch tv), a small gas fireplace (which we never used) and a bathroom that although clean, lacked water pressure and while showering, the water would suddenly go from cold to scalding and back again.

Although there is apparently wireless internet available throughout the resort, however, we were unable to access it from our room so instead we brought our laptop out to the computer table in the hallway and accessed it from there.

Our room had a window air conditioner which we did not end up needing as we slept with the sliding patio door open & just the screen door. Someone near us though had their a/c on and it was so loud, we had to close the patio door.

The staff were friendly and the place over all was charming. There are a number of water "toys" available for guests' use, including big water "bikes" and canoes. As part of our convention, the owner brought us out on the lake for a boat ride which was enjoyed by all.

The shoreline of the beach was quite weedy but there are docks everywhere and it was so nice jumping from the dock into the lake for a swim.

There is a large outdoor patio for dining and a very large indoor dining room. I have to say I was very impressed with the food, especially the dinners each night. Excellent! I also appreciated the self serve coffee/tea station at the top of the landing on our floor just outside a large meeting room; it was so nice to be able to make a cup of tea no matter what time of day or night it was.

There was an outdoor pool at the back of the property and a hot tub on the deck of the main building, neither of which we used.

This is a nice size property that is perfectly suitable to groups such as ours for a small convention and for say families gathering for a wedding or family reunion. During the day, there are plenty of chairs and loungers for use at the small beach and at night, a great big bonfire to gather around.

Although there is no spa on site, staff can bring in service providers to the resort, although this service was unavailable during our stay.

This is by no means a fancy spot but it is certainly clean, comfortable and a great place to stay right on the lake with good food and friendly service, plus it's casual rustic cottage style means no dress up is required.

If I had the opportunity, I would definitely return. If you have found this review helpful, please let me know by clicking below.

We stayed as a couple and really enjoyed our visit here. The location is lovely and the staff are great.

The property is nice and goes for a classic rustic, olde world vibe, with plenty of wood, pictures and books. The site has a lot of space, fitting in a beach, pier, trail, putting green, pool.

The restaurant has scenic views over the lake and a talented, accommodating and charming chef.

This isn't the cheapest place on earth but, having said that, the 'headline price' would be lower if they charged for the all the included items separately. It was relaxing enjoying the wi-fi, the hydro-bikes, the hot-tub, breakfast and dinner without considering item charges.

We particularly enjoyed travelling off on the lake on the hydro-bikes which cover a surprising amount of water in no time.

We found this hotel on the internet, and as we live in the UK we had to take the other reviews seriously, so we risked it, and so glad we did, it is the most beautiful hotel tucked way in a forest by the lake, we were made so welcome we felt like family. the night we arrived there was a storm and subsequent power-out, nevertheless the hotel did their utmost to get the generator up and running quickly. There are no tea/coffee facilities in the room, but an easy access shared coffee area on the landing with an abundance of choice, including English tea!! Yippee! (hard to find this in Canada, folks) . Everywhere was lovely and clean, and so many interesting things to see inside the hotel. As for outside, well a little taste of paradise for definite. We saw hummingbirds, which is awesome for us Brits. One downside - Mosquitoes nearly bled me dry so come very well prepared to keep them at bay. I loved this hotel and recommend it unreservedly.

Room Tip: Ask for a balcony room, you can choose to look over the woods or the lake.

I will start by saying that I have never taken the time to write a review, good or bad but we had such a wonderful time this past weekend I really thought this was worth writing.

Inga and her staff/ family were amazing! I have been planning this conference with Westwind since January. Inga went out of her way to help think of different things we could do and directed me to all of the local hidden gems such as the Kawartha winery (another phenomenal place you MUST visit if in Buckhorn).

There were approximately 40 of us at the resort (some of us there for 4 nights and some for 2) Everyone had a great time! The rooms and views were awesome. I was lucky enough to be in the Chalet suite which was absolutely breathtaking. At various times we all went out with Jamie on a pontoon boat cruise, some guests went fishing, canoeing and swimming. We enjoyed the beach and playing horseshoes during the day and the camp fire each night.

It was a perfect sized resort for our conference. We each had our own space but everything was close enough that we did not need to walk forever if we had to run to the room, or hospitality suite and our meals and meetings were all on-site.

I loved everything about the place and the people but my favorite part was the food!! Chef Brian is BRILLIANT! The meals were absolutely scrumptious! I am not a dessert eater but could not pass up the coconut cream pie and cheesecake desserts (both the best I have ever tasted) and all the home made cookies and muffins throughout the day. There's nothing better than someone telling you to "be careful, the muffin's just came out of the oven"!

They took care of every detail right down to packing us "breakfast to go" grab bags on the day of departure. Thank-you so much for everything, we had a fantastic time!!

Room Tip: Chalet rooms are wonderful if they are within our budget

We found the inn by accident while driving in the area. The young lady, Abagail, at reception went all out to make us feel welcome and contacted her manager re:price. Her enthusiasm made it hard for us to say no so we signed in for one night. We have never been treated so well. The dining staff of Karen, Maegan and Janette also treated us like family. The morning we were to leave we talked to Karen and Janette and it didn't take much for us to decided to stay another night. We can't say enough about the caring of these four young ladies. The room had a view of the lake and was very peaceful. We are anxious to go back again. The setting for the Inn on the lake was fantastic.

Our bowling league just spend May long weekend at the Resort and had a great weekend - the rooms were beautiful with the gas fireplace and the overall resort was so cozy with all the antiques through the lodge. The staff were very polite and looked after all our neats - had a great hot tub Saturday night followed up with campfire with lots of good friends. Hopefully we will be there next year - Thanks again to all the staff

Room Tip: the rooms over looking the water had the best scenery

Where do I begin…our league of about 50 people stayed at Westwind Inn last weekend. I can not say enough good things about this establishment. From the beginning stages of booking and organizing our weekend for such a large group, both Inga and Janette were amazing. They understood our needs and were so helpful accommodate and assist in getting everything prepared. Our whole league was very pleased with the entire weekend. The rooms are quaint and spotless. The fireplaces really give you that cozy feeling. Everything is so clean. The hot tub was cleaned every morning. The staff is constantly smiling and always so helpful. The food was delicious (especially the prime rib) and the service was second to none. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. Sitting out at the bonfire each night was so much fun. While dinning the panoramic views of the lake are breathtaking. The staff and service score a definite 5+ stars. It doesn’t get any better than the staff at Westwind Inn.
I would recommend this resort to everyone. Can’t wait to go back again next year!!!!! Special shout out to some of their great staff Inga, Janette, Karen, Amanda and Matt. The rest of the staff were amazing as well unfortunately I can not name everyone. Thanks again Westwind for a great time. See you next year.

Room Tip: If a lakeview room is available take it. The view is amazingly beautiful.
