My boyfriend and I stayed here last September. The venue is beautiful and set in countryside that is simply stunning. We loved the room and the bathroom was fantastic! Shower was huge and powerful and deco lovely - very relaxing country chic!

We decided to eat at the restaurant and the evening began very well when we were given a complimentary mushroom and truffle soup cup courtesy of the chef which tasted delicious. The food which followed was beautifully presented, i was slightly dissappointed that the 'roasted squash' part of my meal only consisted of a couple of tiny cubes of squash (smaller than a sugar cube!) Perhaps i am not cut out for this level of posh cuisine! Other than that we liked the meal very much and the breakfast was equally enjoyable.

We would definately recommend the wheatsheaf!

We dont usually go on 'mini-breaks' but I was certainly glad we decided to book into the Wheatsheaf on our weekend visit to nearby Bath. The warm welcome and high-end accommodation made up for the terrible weather! The bar and restaurant are certainly worth a visit as the food is amazing and the atmosphere is lovely on a cold evening. The service was excellent even when we had a problem with a lack of hot water (which was rectified very quickly) and my only criticism would be that they allowed dogs in the pub, otherwise a great trip and would certainly return.

Deep in the country with a roaring fire when we went this lovely old Inn is but a 10 min drive from the historic town of Bath. With boutique standard rooms, walk in shower and gorgeous view over the rolling countryside it was great to also find charming and helpful staff, first class service and outstanding food -that is worth a drive from London on its own. Not cheap but well worth it. Don't miss Georgian Bath, the Roman Baths and the newish spa. Excellent free guided walking tours start from the outside of the baths regularly

My wife booked this hotel for a Birthday break in the Somerset countryside.

It was a wonderful suprise, normally we stay in larger properties, but with just 3 bedrooms, staying at the family run (including dogs!) The Wheatsheaf is more like staying in someone's home.

The rooms are converted stables and have a very rustic feel while at the same time having the modern amenities of a fine hotel such as luxurious bathrooms with huge rain showers and well dressed comfy beds.

The standard of the deservedly Michelin recommended restaurant brings guests just to eat and means the bar is larger than you would expect in such a small hotel.

As well as enjoying a fine dining meal, we had drinks on arrival by the open fire and a light lunch (although a full menu was available).

Location wise, Combe Hay is only 10minutes from Bath if you are seeking the City, or as we preferred, it's even closer to country pursuits such as the horse riding we enjoyed.

I would thoroughly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a country hotel with fine restuarant and hope to be back there myself soon.

The rooms are a good size, well furnished and come complete with homemade biscuits, coffee, tea and chilled mineral water. Other beverages and food were available at additional cost.
The bed is firm with very comfortable bedding.
The bathroom is good but the sink is too small.
The breakfast is very good with an excellent range of choices.
The restaurant serves excellent (but quite expensive) food. The choices on the menu are a touch limited (especially considering the extensive choices on the wine menu!).
We both found the fact that a "vegetarian option is available on request" somewhat odd!
With the risk of sounding sexist, I thought the customer service and general customer experience would possibly be improved with a bit more of a woman's touch! Previous reviews that mention arrogant males are understandable - the staff here are very pleasant in a functional way but possibly lack the likability factor!

This is a wonderful place, with fantastic food and great service. The garden is lovely and offers the chance to relax in the sunshine with a pre-dinner drink. Service is very friendly and welcoming. Equally, the food is of a very high-standard and couldn't be faulted - no pub grub in sight. We booked one of the rooms for an overnight stay, which are very comfortable and peaceful - the homemade biscuits were a welcome treat!
Overall, a lovely place which offers fabulous food and a relaxed atmosphere. We will be returning soon.

Myself and friends visited the Wheatsheaf, Combe Hay for some food on Easter Bank Holiday and when we arrived were informed that it was a brunch menu. Due to how busy the restaurant was we kicked back with a pint and admired how beautiful the gardens were and what an amzing setting we were looking at.

The bar offers a good range of beers, lagers and has an excellent wine list, the manager James Barton was most friendly to us and made you feel very welcome. We ordered our food at the bar-Eggs Benedict x 2 with an extra sauage and some chips.

We sat in the sun and chatted away waiting for our food to arive and when it did-it was beautifully presented and was perfect. The moment i stuck my fork into the poached eggs and the yolk dribbled oner the ham and muffins, i knew i had chosen a winner!

It was so good that i had finished within 5 mins and was close to ordering another one. The chips were perfectly cooked, golden brown and crisp. It was the perfect day and easily the best eggs benedict i have ever had.....full credit to the Head Chef!

Being Easter Bank Holiday Monday i thought the menu was fine, even if it was 90% egg based (who cares, enjoy the good food). From time to time a beer will be cloudy but if you do experience that, James the Manager would be only to happy to make sure you are happy as i found him to be very helpful and accomodating.

Bravo Wheatsheaf!
