“Fantastic Value”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 6, 2013

Our second stay at McWilliam Park Hotel. Booked online and got a great deal for two nights B&B. They have kept their high standards up which is good to see. Room very nicely furnished, bed comfortable and en-suite spotlessly clean. Wonderful cooked breakfast served by smiling waitresses. Can not fault the Hotel on any level.

We took a recent offer by the Hotel, had a wonderful Overnight and excellent food, must say the staff are just excellent, so friendly and look after you so well.we will be back again.enjoyed relaxing in the spa area, there is always a music act on in the hotel if you wish to attend, even though this can be full we didn't,t hear any music or disturbance from the event. Rooms are lovely, bars are well organised, you can watch tv in one or chill in the outer area.

Room Tip: Just ask and the staff will sort everything you wish.

Stayed here with my husband & 2 kids (8 & 15) we had 2 interconnecting rooms. The hotel staff are very friendly & we were checked in with a very nice lady in reception. The rooms were of a good size and clean. We were on the ground floor and would have preferred a room on a higher floor as when you opened the curtains people could see in as they walked passed. We had dinner in the bar ( fillet steak very good) the servers in there also very friendly and nothing too much trouble. The breakfast was really good too. Lots of choice and cooked fresh not a buffet. Will definitely be back again.

We stayed in the McWiliam Park this summer with our two children.
Top class family room, food excellent, great staff.
Would recommend. Only downside is it caters to country music fans exclusively, therefore we couldn't really partake in the evening entertainment. We had to leave the hotel to find other things to do. A bit more variety for family entertainment should be considered. A very nice hotel though.

Room Tip: Maybe choose a room away from function room. we had no problem with our room as we weren't close...

Hit & Miss is the best description for our visit to the McWilliam.

The Hits: First impressions were good. As we arrived around 8pm and on entering the hotel lobby we found it full of people who were attending a local fundraiser.

The lobby is a nice & large with a high ceiling that results in a lot of echo. The place was noisy but the atmosphere was comfortable.

Nice reception by staff, nice easy conversation, speedy check in and the offer of assistance should we need any.

Our room was comfortable with the usual supply of tea/coffee making facilities, trouser press, iron etc.

We ate in the bar (on both nights) and received good food, nicely served, prompt service and always with a smile. Entertainment in the bar was a guy doing a solo act to backing tracks. Appeared to be well known by locals, harmless enough & enjoyable. The bar staff & floor staff were top notch.

Breakfast was fine, good service, though my wifes poached egg looked like it was put through a strainer but it tasted fine.

The Misses:
Wi-Fi in the room was not great with an interupted service. Whilst having no wi-fi would not ruin a weekend it's nice to have the option so it was a slight disappointment.

It is already documented in other reviews that noise can be a problem. We found that to be the case particularly on our second night as we appeared to have a number of guests who had no regard or respect for residents trying to get a nights sleep. The design of the hotel lobby and a balcony on the first floor (which leads to the bedrooms) is conducive to loud echos and we had to endure an interupted night of sleep due to shouting & arguments by some residents. To be fair to the hotel they cannot be responsible for the behaviour of residents but we were informed that the duty manager had visited the rooms in an effort to stop the noise during the night.

Housekeeping: with regard to bed making, on returning to the hotel on day 2, we found that the bed had been tidied but not made. Now don't get me wrong. If the bed had NOT been made we would have happily made it ourselves but this was not the case. The duvet was smoothed over, my wifes jammies were under the duvet causing a small hill in the centre of the bed & the duvet was shoved under the bed resulting in the bed declining at an angle of 5/6 inches from foot to the head of the bed. As stated, if it had not been made it would have been no big deal as we would just make it ourselves and of course that is what we had to do. (either that or go hillwalking up the incline on the bed).

Leisure Centre: The hotel need to do some improvement to the gents dressing room. The area had showers, wc,lockers & a bench roughly 6' x 4' in size but no individual changing booths. I would think that a 4 star hotel would have private booths as part & parcel of the changing room just to preserve some modesty in an area used by adults & children. I am not being prudish but....

None of the above comments with the exception of the noise issue spoiled our visit in any way. The staff were super in all areas from start to finish. When I mentioned the problem with noise, they were extremely apologetic. The noise is the only issue that would keep me away from this hotel in the future. I do think the hotel could look at some of the other minor issues I encountered. Should thay act on any of the negative comments i am sure they could increase their repeat business. They have good staff so they are almost there.

Room Tip: Ask for a bedroom as far away from the lobby as possible

hotel room not very clean. very thick dust down sides of bed and bedside lamps. dressing table mirror was also covered with dust. wooden slot blinds on main window in room was covered in dust. i was able to right my name on it. both my children are asthmatic and i was very disappointed with the overall appearance. floor area in the bar was very sticky and glass walk way to the dining room looked like it wasnt cleaned in weeks. there was dead flies on the window sills. revolving entrance door glass was very dirty. the floor in the changing areas in the leisure centre was like a river and the viewing area floor was disgusting. staff were very pleasant but i was really disappointed with the overall cleanliness of the hotel. i would of expected a lot better from a so called 4 star hotel

Room Tip: make sure you ask for a clean one
