My sister and I googled a special place for a special occasion and found Waoku Lodge - as the saying goes "a picture paints a thousand words!" This is without saying. We didn't look any further and took a drive out to Whale Bay to find the lodge. We were both overwhelmed with the beauty that surrounded Waoku Lodge and the ambience. We were greeted in the office by Rob - a man of few words but a humble and caring man. He was quietly spoken and welcoming - thank you Rob you made us feel very at home.

My sister and I toured through all the lodges and fell in love with every room. All we knew at this stage was that it was the right place for a special surprise occassion. The only hard part we found was within ourselves in deciding which lodge - thank you Rob for allowing us to wonder and spend the whole of the afternoon pondering and mulling over the lodges surrounded by the natures of Mt Karioi - the sounds of the birds and the rustle of trees in the back -

Not yet decided on the lodges we met with Sharon (the heart and soul) of Rob and Waoku Lodge to go through the menu for our venue

This was equally hard as choosing the rooms, so we entrusted Sharon to cater to her heart's desired taste.

We arrived on the eve of the our special occassion - "my sister's wedding" for a girls night. Welcomed by our humble host Rob and settled into our lodge "Matangi". We were served by our loving Rob - scrumptiously divine food prepared by our very own Sharon - yummy to our tummys!!!

The eve of this night ended with a massage at the in-house Moana Spa - oh my gosh - this is definitely a must to add to your stay.

Oh and the outdoor spa (oops) I was the only one who got to experience this with a very special and dear friend. This was a divine moment indeed to relax and just simply chill out with a few glasses of red (hahahaha)

The day was clear blue sky and sunny with the freshness of winter in the air

Everything was perfect - Rob and Sharon, we can't thank you enough for how you both made our special day so perfect with every detail you provided for the ceremony - for the reception - the food - honestly everything - the quests were overwhelmed and speechless - thank you with all our heartfelt love

Amazing place to enjoy the finer things of life with serenity to match and the most magical views. The exquisitely prepared meals served in the privacy of our room were equal to the best experienced anywhere in our travels.

We highly reccommend a night or two at this pristine part of New Zealand

My husband and I recently had a very rare and much anticipated stay at Waoku Lodge in Raglan. From the moment we first arrived until our departure the next day we felt like we were living in total luxury. In fact our one night felt like a whole weekend! We had indicated we were wanting to order our dinner on the phone when we booked, so when we got there had a good look at the menu. The only problem with that was deciding what to have. The cook is amazing and the food was devine. My husband and I had such a lovely stay there that we are very keen to come back again for another getaway (anyone want to babysit?)
Thank you so much for our amazing stay and the beautiful interlude in our busy lives. All marriages need their 'working on' and if it can be done at Waoku Lodge then it is all good! Thoroughly recommend this stunning location, friendly service and amazing food to anyone wanting to feel like royalty for the night!

Room Tip: All rooms are amazing

My wife and I stayed in the Waoku Lodge for 2 nights and chose it as a getaway location to relax near to the sea. This was achieved with ease! Rob (the owner) met us upon arrival and contrary to other reviews, we found him to be warm and personable with nothing being too much trouble.
We were given a room with fabulous views of the sea and our own jacuzzi on a large deck area. The place was well appointed with excellent furnishings and was immaculately kept. The bedrooms (there was one upstairs and one on the ground level) were very comfortable and the kitchen was well kitted out with all one could ever require.
Rob served us food in our room on the first night and this can only be described as perfect, with the snapper main course standing out.
Our only very slight niggle was the skylights in the bedrooms which should have blinds fitted to allow for the all important lie in!
This is a very minor issue and in no way detracted from an otherwise perfect stay.
We will be back without doubt......

We had our wedding at Waoku Lodge in February this year. Rob and Sharon were wonderful hosts. Sharon is an amazing cook - the food was great - they went out of their way to make our day special from start to finish. We had the intimate family wedding that we wanted and all of our guests have commented on what a wonderful day it was.

We stayed only one night at Waoku Lodge. A very isolated place with with prefect views.
The owner looks very "laid back" and is friendly. At first we could not get dinner, but later we got an offer. But we made the choice to go back to the village. In the village you have not much choice, most of them on "hamburger" level.
We enjoyed the stay in Waoku Lodge but is can be better, cleaner and more customer friendly. Details has to be prefect if you offer this price. Price is now too high.
Breakfast in the morning was ok but too fat.

It is disappointing to get negative reviews, but we take heart from this one.

We are a small establishment and the place is run by just my wife and I. We have no restaurant but offer a dinner and breakfast service and ask that guests give us some notice, particularly on the day of arrival. We think this is fair and try to make it clear to our guests before teir arrival. this couple checked in at 5.30 p.m. Our kitchen was closed and we, helpfully we thought, advised them where they might eat in Raglan. Fine dining in Raglan is not an option but there are a number of cafes and bars that serve food. My wife, who excels in her generosity, let it be known that we could offer a limited choice at this time of night and the guests were duly informed. They chose to go into Raglan and dine there.

We're not sure what they mean by describing the breakfast as "too fat", but there are healthy options available on our breakfast menu. We assume that they had a cooked breakfast with bacon which may have been too fatty for them. We apologise for this.

It is interesting to note that this review awarded us five stars for our location but then described it as "isolated." We are just ten minutes drive from Raglan town centre, situated in Whale Bay where there is a small community of domestic dwellings, although no shops or other commercial premises. We've never considered ourselves isolated, but each experience is subjective.

The comments concerning the cleanliness of our apartments are noted. It is unacceptable for us to receive such comments and our cleaning schedules have been thoroughly revised to take account of these comments. Likewise the guest's experience of our "friendliness"; we must improve on our performance and have taken this comment to heart. We are pleased that the guests enjoyed their stay overall.

We booked this high-priced motel to be near a wedding venue and were pleased we did not share with another couple as there is only one small bathroom downstairs with the extra small double bedroom upstairs. Both bedrooms are tastefully decorated but very small. The living area is lovely but the entrance to the room gives a poor impression as it is filthy. The bathroom rubbish bin also needs to be dumped for a new one. We had to chase up for more tea bags as three in a big box was not enough. And then to be told by the grumpy owner that we could not park in one area, which turned out to be his property, and that he didn't expect people to be coming and going (we came back once) totally set the scene for the rest of our stay.
For $430 in an out-of-the-way place we expect the best and felt ripped off with the final indignity by Mr Grump being charged $1.15 for the free phone call I had made. When I said it was a free call he replied that it was use of the "equipment." The place was not full and I am not surprised. He needs to have a personality transplant and revise the price down to a more appropriate $300 for this type of accommodation.
I do hope for future guests they take note and action from this comment.
