We stayed at Wavecrest on the first night of our West Coast Meander trek. The location is stunning, the public rooms are very pleasant - it rained all afternoon, and we had quite a relaxing time in the lounge. However our room was awful. The curtains were very discoloured, and looked about 4 inches too short; there was a kind of sawdust piled up at the window, the towels and linens looked very tired. The room looked well overdue for a make-over. If it was of the standard of the public areas of the hotel, this would be a very good place to stay.

We really enjoyed our time here. The Inn is situated on a lagoon with a fantastic view of an infinite beach.
The rooms are fairly rustic & dont take advantage of their awesome location but are comfortable & the bathrooms are recently renovated. The Lounge is straight out of a Bakos Bros showroom & there is a wonderful full size snooker table. The dining room is unpretentious & the food is good homely fare. The deck & pool are in a fantastic spot. The staff are very friendly & welcoming.
The atmosphere is laid back & well suited for a family holiday. There are always canoes available, the ferryman is always at hand to row you across the river & kids can go wild without causing stress. The canoe rides are truly beautiful & are very special for birders. The beach is endless & the whole area is pristine & unspoit.
A really beautiful spot & well worth a visit

Room Tip: Request sea-facing

We loved Wavecrest because of its simplicity and uncommercial atmosphere, basic and perfect. In this setting overlooking the sea and the estuary basic was good so as not to divert you from the natural beauty outside. I think we were given the smallest room they have, because we looked at others and they were all much bigger. So ask for a spacious room, and definitely request and pay a little extra for a sea view room. As i said our sea view room was very tiny which I will avoid next time. There is so much to do, with amazing beach walks that can go on forever. Hiking too into the dune forests. The manager also took us on a beautiful evening boat ride up the river birding and for evening sunset drinks ....at no extra cost. Yes, the staff and the service were so friendly. We look forward to a longer stay next time.

Room Tip: ask for a spacious sea view room. we paid extra for a sea view room, but the one we got was very very small, when all others were much bigger. this one was the last one in a row overlooking the estuary.

I was recently at the Wavecrest with a group that was doing some work in Kentani. The rooms were quite cool as I had my own little building. Beds were very comfortable, water was hot, and the views from the front porch were fantastic. The only complaint was it was so cold while we were there and no heat!

The hotel is located in the middle of nowhere, but it was quite charming. The main part of the hotel was a bit old, but still decent. Meals were included and were neither great nor horrible. Overall, definitely recommended if you're going to be in this remote area of South Africa

Room Tip: I like the small, individual huts.

Good food, very comfortable rooms, friendly staff and great walks ensured that we enjoyed our 9 night stay at Wavecrest Beach hotel. We also enjoyed the fishing, birdlife and boating on the tidal estuary. If you want to get away from the rat race and spend time on one of the last unspoilt coastlines in the world and still enjoy your home comforts at very reasonable tariffs, this is it! This the best setting that we have seen on the Wild Coast.
