My girlfriend had such a good time I think she is now depressed she has to actually go home and back to work. She won’t stop banging on about the baby hippo that was in the watering hole visible from the restaurant at lentaba every morning. She has now asked me a million times if we can have a baby hippo. She has also moaned that she has put on 5 stone due to the food.

In all seriousness what an amazing experience. Stayed at lentaba for 3 nights, 6 game drives. Rooms were fantastic, cleaned/tidied/prepared twice a day when you are on your game drives, little notes about the weather left on your pillow. Food, loads of it, really really good, you will put on weight!! Staff couldn’t do enough for you. We had Rowan as a driver/ranger/tracker, he was so knowledgeable, enthusiastic and clearly made it his mission to find the animals we wanted to see. Lions, elephants, rhinos, buffalo, cheetah, giraffe, wart hogs, loads of different antelope, hippos and the life ruining baby hippo!!! No leopard but I think reading the reviews they are never seen on any park so we knew that before we went.

The extra little touches really made the holiday, hot face towel waiting when you get off your game drive, morning coffee stop on the game drive, evening sunset stop with a drink of your choice. Blankets and hot water bottles ready for you.

One thing I would say is it can be cold and windy, don’t let the fact it’s africa fool you. Take a fleece, and a warm jacket. They do recommend you take them but that bit should be in bold so you don’t gloss over it. TAKE A BIG WARM THICK COAT!!!!

And once again be prepared to have your life ruined as you will never be able to look out of your bedroom window and see elephants or a baby hippo ever again in your life :(

Dear Alastair

Thank you for the amazing review! We must say, this review gave us quite a good chuckle - All thanks to the baby hippo!! You are one of the lucky guests to have been able to see the baby hippo in the waterhole below Lentaba Lodge as this is not an everyday occurrence. This is definitely a memory to cherish forever!

At Lalibela, we pride ourselves in going the extra mile for our guests. We believe that all the little touches add to your experience with us. Each and every guest deserves to be spoilt during their stay. We are happy that you enjoyed our food. With so many options to choose from, who would not want to try a little bit of everything?

We will be sure to pass your compliments onto Ruan. He will be delighted to know that you enjoyed your game drives with him.

We would love to welcome you back to Lalibela in the future. I am sure your girlfriend will agree with that! If you managed to take any photos during your stay, we would love it if you shared them with us.

Kind regards,
The Lalibela Team

Long drive to get to Lalibela but 100% worth the drive we arrived just as the game drive was about to leave they had waited on us but we decided to miss it as we were tired and hadn’t eaten, we got shown our room we had a lovely lodge number 5 lovely path down to ours and it’s was incredible 2 large beds and 2 big high back arm chairs in front of balcony doors with an incredibly private view of valley and mountain layout of the room was great very spacious even when our luggage arrived we don’t travel light, fantastic bathroom huge shower and great bath with the view just wow

We went up to main building got shown around all the different areas and given a great lunch and drinks got to sit outside on massive deck with a spectacular view even got to see a mummy and baby hippo in the small lake down the valley never had that’s view with lunch before so fun

There is so much space to sit about in all different seating areas inside or outside around a camp fire or massive fireplace inside it’s just got everything you would need to enjoy your holiday

Meals are in the big dinning room with an enormous table to fit every guest we all got to sit together and meet everyone else staying talk about the game drive they had been on and meet the drivers etc

The most amazing food made from scratch every day for every meal for me being a fuzzy eater I never had a problem I’ve eaten so much variety and enjoyed every mouthful so much to choice from, breakfast before first game drive was continental style and brunch when you return was hot food spread great options, lunch and dinner same great food cooked fantastic and give you the opportunity to try foods I’d never get a chance to or ever give a chance to I can safely say you will never be hungry

Morning time you get a 5:30 am knock on the door to wake you for your morning game drive second in afternoon, we got ready and went to main lodge to get first breakfast go out to truck where we found hot water bottles, blanket and water bottle each on your seat nice and cosy start to day, we got to see some amazing animals up close and free not like the zoo, our ranger was Ryan so much knowledge on the animals and how and were to find them even in the dark so fun, 3 hours out and back again we get welcomed with a hot facecloth and time to freshen up before back to main lodge for your second breakfast

From start to finish we loved every bit felt so welcomed and we were treated like royalty just spoilt the hole time nothing was to much, my daughter was celebrating her 16th birthday during our stay and they organised a cake without me even having to ask they just have everything sorted the staff even brought it out and sang to her it was such an experience

I can’t wait to get back to South Africa with my friends and stay again it was such an amazing experience from start to finish the pictures would never do it justice such a beautiful place no matter where you look something to see

Dear Suzi

Wow! Thank you for the lovely, detailed review of Lalibela Game Reserve. We are so touched by your feedback. We certainly spoil our guests with vast quantities of delicious food and drink and ensure that all guests are comfortable in their rooms. It is not every day that you get to enjoy a relaxing bath with a view! It is wonderful that you enjoyed the game drives with Ryan and that you were lucky enough to see the hippos at the waterhole in front of the lodge. At Lalibela, we treat every guest like royalty. We are so glad that we could spoil your daughter on her 16th birthday. May your memories of Lalibela last forever!

We would love to welcome you and your friends back for another visit.

Gavin and I had the most wonderful experience at Lalibela. It was Gavin's birthday and our wedding anniversary. The staff really went our of their way to make it a very special occassion for us. Champagne and chocolates as well as a birthday cake and candles.

We saw a great variety of animals and Ruaan was an amazing guide.

Thank you to all concerned. Wish we could go again!
